I knew I had plenty of time to get a run in this morning before leaving for the airport at 6:30 so long as I was 100% packed the night before. I got in bed at 9PM last night and set the alarm for 5AM. I actually slept in my running clothes because I knew it would be a cold one!! Sports bra, long sleeve T, yoga pants + socks. Just added a fleece, shoes and gloves when I got up. I almost didn’t go because it was 39* and dark out there, but I knew I’d be glad that I did and boy was I right.
I had a GREAT RUN! Nice pace, lots of energy. I ran the 4.2 mile loop through our neighborhood.
SOOO glad I went. I’ve got that wonderful exercise feel. I’ve never regretted a workout….
It took me 29 minutes to shower, glam and head out the door. Not having breakfast and being all packed up really helps!
I was very sad to leave my computer
And Matt was gone by 3AM!
Check-in and security were a breeze today (go Charlotte!!) and I made a beeline to Jamba!!
Today I branched out and got the Mango + Peach. I lost a banana off the top at one point, but my is this good!!
I’ve only had a few bites and am super hungry, so I’m hanging up now to go finish eating!
Minneapolis, get ready for another KERF fly by!! I’m planning to get a coffee when I get there

Glad you had a good run to start your foodbuzz weekend off!!
Have a great weekend!
Yay, glad you had a good run!
I’ve never regretted a workout either eheh
Have a safe trip!
I am going to have to try these Jamba creations when I travel at some point! And how good does no security lines feels? It honestly makes my day when that happens at airports.
Yay for morning runs! I had a great one myself this morning
Good to know that parfait is good…I’m traveling this weekend and will need all the on-the-go options I can get! HAVE AN AWESOME TRIP and SAFE travels!!
Have a great time! Running before a day of traveling feel soo good just to have it out of the way. Can’t wait for the recap!
Have a super trip.. stoked to see some pics!
Way to be hard core and sleep in your running gear! Whatever necessary to get in a run, right? Have a great trip!
Your Jamba creations always look incredible! Definitely makes a trip through the airport worthwhile, right?
gosh kath, i’ve GOT to try one of those Jamba beauties!!!
Have a safe flight
good for you for getting out for a run! i biked my 8 miles to work this morning and it was -4C (i think that is like 25F)
it was lovely but i still can’t feel my toes
happy travels!!
Have a great time!
Nice job on the run! That would have been so easy to skip!
The Jamba smoothie sounds great!
Hooooray for the early morning run! Good idea on sleeping in the workout clothes. I need to steal that one
Safe Travels!
Have a great time!!
that drink tops with banana looks so fulfilling , love its colors:)
Hope you have a great trip!
Don’t forget to run by the seals on Pier 39!
wow what an early morning you had! I’m impressed with everything you got done. Is it hard to leave Matt so often for these trips? I’m sure the weekends are fun, but I bet you miss your husband. We don’t have any jamba juices around here, but next time I fly, I’m totally looking for one!
Oh yum, that looks absolutely delicious!
Have a safe trip!! More importantly, have a BLAST!!
I admire you for working out in the cold. That is something I have no tolerance for! Unfortunately, now that I don’t have a gym membership, that’s something that I may just have to toughen up about!
Have a fun time at foobuzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!
I never regret a workout either
Glad you were able to get one in! Haha. I sleep in my workout clothes too sometimes
Have fun at the foodbuzz festival, I am looking forward to reading all about it.
So awesome that you woke up early enough to go for a run. I was way to tired for that this morning, but I agree- I’ve never regretted a workout!
I’m at the Charlotte airport now and headed to San Fran at 9:25- too bad we weren’t on the same flight!
Wow that’s dedication to run before the sun comes out!
I love when there’s no security lines. It makes me feel so much calmer and relaxed. Every time I’ve almost missed a flight, [twice] I’ve gotten stuck in the security lines on layovers. I was literally running through the airport… hahaha.
yummy start to what I am sure is going to be a DELICIOUS weekend!
Can’t wait to hear all about it!
I must get my hands on one of those Jamba creations! They look so good but we don’t have Jamba in Atlanta, so I need to fly through an airport that has one.
Enjoy the weekend!
Sounds like an awesome weekend to come!
I am flying out of Minneapolis today–maybe I will run into you!!! Have a great time in San Fran.
Isn’t it just the best to get the workout in right away before a busy day? Especially when you’re traveling… I get cabin fever having to sit on airplanes for hours on end!
have a great trip!
Breakfast looks awesome!
As a Minneapolis-ite, enjoy your short time here! After living in Washington, D.C. and France, this is still my favorite city to be in!
Caribou Coffee > Starbucks!
i totally agree with this: “i’ve never regretted a workout.” i love that quote… i don’t know why but it really sticks with me… enjoy your trip!
i love morning workouts and how they make you feel!
be safe on your flight
I’m a new reader but I gotta comment. I love morning workouts too, but your run in the dark shows an extreme and yes, unsafe fanatacism. You really don’t think you would have gotten any exercise in Minneapolis??? Please, with your exercise on most days taking 1.5 hours it seems to 2 hours (gym biking, even study walking ’cause you just CAN’T sit and study) I doubt you wouldn’t have done something to get your heart rate up in Minneapolis. Or **gasp** miss a day of exercise like any normal person.
enjoy your weekend kath!! jealous :O)
There is no way on God’s green earth I’d be able to go for a run before leaving for the airport at 6:30. I’m amazed! Have a great time at the conference. So jealous of everyone who is going!
YAY have a great time!!
yay jamba. so impressed you got a workout in.
Well, I’m going to say three cheers for the morning run. I’m sure Kath is 100% able to defend her own choices, but, New Reader, sometimes there isn’t a better option, and running in the dark isn’t inherently unsafe. (I’ll assume we can all agree on the need for vigilance, reflective spots on your clothes, etc.)
Travel, children, work, school are all very viable factors that make it tough to run at the optimal time. Sometimes, we have to use the time that’s available, no matter when it comes.
Glad you had a great run before heading out! It’s always nice to start out a day of travel with some exercise. The Jamba sounds fantastic! Enjoy the rest of your flight!
Sleeping in my workout clothes for an early morning workout is absolutely key for me! It has saved me several times. If I turn over to go back to sleep and wake up later dressed for the gym when I can’t go anymore, I know that I’ll feel pretty sad, so it’s great motivation.
Also, I’m definitely going to agree with Eileen on this one, running in the morning when it is dark out is a personal choice and not always unsafe. I live in NYC and don’t do it because I’m not comfortable; however, if someone knows his/her neighborhood and wants to run in the dark, go for it. You can take certain percautions (i.e., carrying a cell phone), but again, it’s a personal choice.
I’m so excited! I’m halfway tempted to meet up for the run tomorrow but I’ve got too much to do after being sick last week
I’ll just run at the same time and act like I’m there!
Sleeping in your exercise clothes…wow, that is a great tip! Sometimes it’s really difficult to get the motivation to get out of a warm, comfortable bed in the morning, so that makes it at least one step easier. I will have to share that. A lot of the participants at the residential facility where I work are constantly on the go, much like a lot of us these days, so this helps make the routine of exercising a little easier.
O.M.G. Eileen- there is a better option- sleep, chill out. I understand having to squeeze exercise in when time is cramped- but Kath’s time is OBVIOUSLY not. She doesn’t have kids and her “work” allows her the luxury of amounts of free time as evident by the hours of time she can spend on exercise and play (no 9 to 6 like the rest of us). She exercises every day. Defending a run in pitch darkness is pretty evident of what I see on food blogs more and more- a freaky defense of “exercise at all costs” mentality.
It’s funny how you assume you know Kath’s entire life situation just because you know only what she puts on the blog. If you don’t want to run in the dark that’s your personal choice. I’m pretty sure Kath is able to make her own decisions.
I don’t think there is any reason to judge Kath’s free time – “work”, as you put it in quotation marks, can be defined in many ways. New Reader, if you’re unhappy with your 9 to 6 job, perhaps it’s time to look outside the box and redefine your own life. More power to you, Kath, for leading a fulfilling life that you love. Everyone else is just jealous
By the way, I also like running in the dark – I find it peaceful. I do, however, stick to populated areas, wear reflective clothing, and carry my cell phone.
nothing’s better than the feeling you get from a good workout!!
I can’t wait to spot a Jamba Juice!
Jenn
I was thisclose to sleeping in my gym clothes last night to cut back on morning time, but convinced myself it was too hardcore. Next time, I’ll actually do it!
Hope you had a safe flight!
So jealous of all you lovely bloggers in San Fran!
yummm! that breaky looks delishhh
