Fun fun fun workout + dinner!!!
After wrapping up things at home, I headed to Emily‘s across town for a weight circuit workout!
She had it all planned out. We did all of these exercises 10x twice. And mixed in plyometrics and DANCE in between sets. The hardest were the burpees – and the chin ups on her new bar! We both managed about 10 chin ups, but not all at once.
Have I mentioned that I hate weights? This was FUN though. Emily has lots of weight experience and I loved having a partner.
After our circuit (which lasted about 45 minutes) we took the dogs for a 2 mile snowy run! It was more like a jog, but just the way to end on a sweaty note.
KERF <3 dogs
[By the way, can't believe it's SNOWING here and we have about 2 inches on the grass. Crazy!!!]
After refreshing showers, we donned our GAP Long + Lean jeans, Target slippers and hoodies to for a flapjack fiesta!
Mocktails for the chefs!
On the menu: Fiesta Flapjacks!!! <— Link to recipe page with all the details!!
Inspired by Caitlin‘s savory pancakes last week, I knew these were going on the menu ASAP!
Kodiak cakes served as the perfect base
We chopped up some veggies
Stirred in veggies and black beans into the mix
Cooking!
Sautéed veggies on the side: corn, tomatoes, beans, peppers and a little Mexican herb seasoning
I was sent this Don Sabrosa salsa to review recently. Thought tonight was a good time since dinner involved black beans + corn too! Being an onion-hater, I am very weary of salsas, but I’m thrilled to report I loved this one!!!!!!! The onions were dehydrated and didn’t bother me at all. Only wish it were a little spicier!
Sampled on a few handfuls of chip crumbs while we cooked
OMGgggggggggg….
The veggies were perfectly cooked too. The maters popped in my mouth!
Sooo delicious, but also sooo filling. I actually only ate 2.25 pancakes before putting down my fork and proclaiming fullness!
Report From Napa
Matt encountered the president of Naturally Nutty!!! My HERO! And is having fun at the Russian River Brewery.
Guess he’s over his food poisoning!
It’s past my bedtime. Goodnight loves!

I have to say that I was quite hesitant about savory pancakes when I saw them on Caitlin’s blog but you may have convinced me to give them a shot. They look so good!!
I love POM!! I know you have probably said but what do you mix it with to make your mocktail?
That sounds like a TOUGH workout!! But those are the best
Just club soda
I LOVE the chalkboard full of exercises–cute! It reminds me of the chalkboard my dad hung up for me when I was little and I pretended I was a teacher.
I’ve got those Tar-jay slippers too! So comfy!
Lovely pancake dinner!
I just can’t get into savory pancakes for some reason…or oatmeal for that matter. I want my oatmeal to be sweet and dessert like…
The table looks lovely though. Also, I’m sooooo happy it’s snowing in NC instead of Pittsburgh haha. We’ve had enough snow!!
I’m wearing my Gap long & lean jeans too right now
Love them!
What a fun workout and dinner!
Your dinner looks so yummy! I love the savory pancakes. Working out with a friend is always more fun
YUM, those savory pancakes look DELICIOUS! And the workout…I’m jealous of Emily’s set-up! I wish I had someone to workout with like that!
That circuit workout looks so fun with a friend!
Funny; I had a very similar dinner, but mine was inside stuffed peppers, not atop flapjacks. Yum!
So jealous Matt met Katie from Naturally Nutty! She’s amazing
I love salsa to no end. Looks delicious as always.
Great dinner idea! – Looks super nummy
I had a Mexican-themed dinner tonight too – Fajita-style veggies over quinoa, with salsa and greek yog! yum!
What a great meal after an intense workout.
Pancakes for dinner is definitely the best idea ever.
Beautiful dinner! I’ll have to make that soon. Plus, I love the slippers! I’m wearing the same ones right now.
Wow – the flapjacks look amazing simply cooking in the pan!!! Yum, yum, yum!
Ooooo Savory pancakes. Two different versions to ponder for Saturday’s dinner.
cute pups and i love those moccs! i love savory pancakes too
You girls are so cute!!! I love these savory flapjack recipes going on out here. Beat my green monster that I had for dinner! Sometimes a girl just needs some flapjacks.
Those flapjacks look so good! I usually don’t like savory versions of originally sweet food, but I wouldn’t pass those up!
The chalkboard is such a cute addition to a home gym. Great idea.
Holy yummm!!
MMm pancakes.
Has Matt heard of Kate the Great? It’s “kind of a big deal” in the beer world, and made in NH. Just wondering!
I don’t think so!
I love that your friend has a full workout station in her house!
Those pancakes look really good. Who would have though to make savory pancakes? Another meal well done!
Looks like you and Emily had a lot of fun! Have added her blog to my read list as well! Food looked very yummy. I wish I could get more people here to eat like you.
Never heard of savory pancakes! They look so yummy.
yum! those pancakes look so good! i have to try caitlins and your pancake recipes asap
Oh wow! Now I feel like I need to try savory pancakes!! They sound interesting! I guess sort of like bread with veggies??
What a pretty dinner! So many colors… <3 it!
Ive been wanting to try savory pancakes since I saw them on Caitlin’s blog, too! Now I’m officially sold. And gaaaah those tomatoes do look ridiculously good!
Look FANTASTIC!!! I’m definitely trying that out soon. You and Caitlin both loving them has persuaded me!
What a wonderful recipe. Looks great! I love flapjacks!
That looks amazing! That recipe would probably be amazing if you did half pancake mix, half cornmeal, or some combo to get some more texture and corn flavor in there. Would totally complement the other savory flavors.
What a fun evening! It’s always fun to have a partner in crime for your workout.
Mmmm… those flapjacks are genious!
You and Emily are so cute with your matching jeans and slippers!! That dinner looks fantabulous!!! I love a good fiesta!
yum, yum, yum! your dinner looks delicious – especially the sauteed veggies!
and i love emily’s chalk board! i have a big white board that i use all the time, but it’s just not the same.
Wow, I’ve never heard of savory pancakes, well besides potato pancakes.
Those look AWESOME! Love the veggies, too. YUMMMMMMMMMMMY
Your workout looks like so much fun!

Those flapjacks look amazing….nuff said.

Ha…I think you & Tina had the same salsa tonight : ) I need to make some savory pancakes stat!
Wow awesome workout, you sure deserved those pancakes after that!! I thought they sounded good on Caitlin’s blog, and they still sounds good now…maybe when I’m home I’ll whip up a bunch
I bet they freeze well too!
that is the most beautiful box of food i’ve seen in my life
pretty dogs too!

the Paris Food Blague
I think calling anything “fiesta” just makes it taste better
Also, I was wondering, do you think you’re becoming more tolerant of onions in things, orit’s really just that sometimes it’s subtle enough not to bother you?
Perhaps a bit more tolerant of cooked ones in things, but definitely not raw
I’m loving the reports from Napa. Himself and I are planning a big trip up the West Coast next year (all things being equal) and Napa and Sonoma are definites!!!
Those south of the boarder pancakes look INSANE. Thank you for sharing the recipe. So clever and innovative!
That dinner looks absolutely amazing. Please come cook for me!
I am heading to Napa in 2 weeks and am so excited! I love seeing the pictures and reports…..I can’t wait to be there!
I am wearing those same Target slippers, right now. haha So comfy!! What cute doggies!! and I’m so jealous of Emily’s home gym. I want one!!
I love the chalkboard wall! That’s an amazing home gym, and sounds like such a fun girl’s night! I love the working out before cooking/eating it just sounds like a perfect mix. Oh and I totally want those slippers, those and hoodies sound like heaven.
What a great idea for pancackes! I’ve never actually thought of making them savory, but those look outstanding! Thanks for the great idea, Kath. Keep ‘em coming!
Is it weird that the one thing I keep drooling over in this post is your mocktail?? Lol. I guess that means I am thirsty
Your workout looks fun and yay for snow (though most of it is melted now)
What a great day! 1. I love the weight workout – can’t understand why you don’t like weights… I love to work with weights. 2. Great 2 miler and the dogs probably had more fun than you did! 3. That food…KATH, what a super way to prepare flapjacks. love it! 4. Best wishes to Matt – hope he is getting the opp. to enjoy California (my fav. State). What happened with the food poisoning? OH NO! Bad stuff.
What a great setup for you two to work out! Looks like it was a good time.
I love dogs too! I want to get my own but my boyfriend and I just aren’t home enough. It wouldn’t be fair to the doggy.
This is why I love blogland! Where else would I see crazy pancakes like those? They look great, by the way.
OMG those pancakes look incredible! What an awesome idea! On my list of things to make =)
What a beautiful table setting! I love the chalkboard for the workout
those look like my kind of savory pancakes!!! i LOOOOOOOOVE anything mexican-food, and those sound spectacular. perhaps dinner tonight?!
Yummy…thanks for sharing. I’ve got to try these…it includes all of my favorite things!!!!!!
Don Sabrosa Salsa is amazing…the black bean and corn is my favorite!!!
I have a new pair of Gap long & lean jeans too, and I really *want* to love them. BUT. They fit me *perfectly* for about an hour after washing, and then they get all stretched out – saggy and baggy – around the waist, thighs, and bum. Have you had any trouble like that with them? Any tips? Is it worth trying to buy a size “too small” so they’ll fit once stretched out? Anyone tried this?
Mine did stretch some. Stretch jeans just do that for me.
Glad it’s not just me – let me know if you find any tricks to keeping them ‘in shape’. Your dinner salad looks delish!
OMG YOU ARE SO TOTALLY GETTING LINKED ON THOSE FLAPJACKS ON MY BLOG TONIGHT!!
holy smokearoni’s i cant wait to try that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful, colorful dinner pictures! Your workout looks super fun, too. I love doing stuff like that with friends!
Looks like you guys had a fun night!
WOW, those flapjacks look awesome! I look forward to making them, and seeing the look of surprise on my husbands face when I tell him that he can’t put maple syrup on the pancakes I am making
