I was up at 5am this morning, rolled over and thought “Don’t wake the baby or it’s all over.”
Funny how I’m already tip-toeing around in my own body not to wake a sleeping baby!
However, he knew. And he wanted to play. And within 5 minutes, I had a Mexican jumping bean in my belly and couldn’t go back to sleep.
I got up and had a few graham crackers by Essential Everyday that I found in my swag bag since there was no juice in my room. It didn’t really work – insomnia + internal clock + internal jumping bean = time to get up. I wonder if I’m going through another growth spurt? My latest theory is that I’m not sleeping due to hunger (even though I don’t feel terribly hungry) because the juice always works. The insomnia usually passes after about 4-5 days – hoping tonight’s the night!
I did end up snoozing a bit in the 6:00 hour, after deciding a workout was not in my energy levels, but I never fell back asleep. So I got up and had a spa morning instead. I put on Pandora Spa, brewed some Keurig decaf and enjoyed another session with that delicious Rose #31.
Baby in the robe!
Don’t forget the prenatal vitamins!
Headed down to meet my speaker panel for breakfast. SO excited for a full meal!!

Ahhh graham crackers…plus some hot tea or coffee…always so comforting! Also, what is Pandora Spa? I listen to Pandora all the time at work but haven’t ever put that channel in. Now my ears are very curious
It’s one of their preset stations – it’s awesome!
Does the baby sleep for most of the night? I doubt that unborn children have normal sleeping patterns, since they are still developing?
Hahah, I am so clueless about pregnancy, good thing I have a while
I have no idea, but he wakes up about 5 mins after me
Hey Kath, I worked with a sleep consultant (professional sleep trainer for babies) who was looking for a training case to get her certification in infant sleep (we’re both Psychologists) when my son was 16 weeks old. She was WONDERFUL and helped us so much – and was full of interesting ideas and facts. She explained that babies sleep cycles are about 40-50 minutes (news to me) and that if you watch them for prolonged periods of time on, say, a video monitor you’ll usually see them move/stir/awaken etc (even once they have learned to put themselves back to sleep). AND that there is a shift in infant sleep pattern around 4am. For us, it is like clockwork – even if my son (10 months now) isn’t fussing or crying he is UP at this time and eventually just goes back to sleep. Apparently nap times of 9am and 12pm have become pattern for families who end up on a schedule bc there is a shift in body temperature, etc at that time as well which is particularly conducive for napping. So, perhaps your son is already aware of the 4-5am shift. He’s clearly very advanced
Cool! I just listened to a podcast by a baby sleep expert and she said if you don’t put your baby to bed around 6pm then he will be up from 3-5am. I wonder if mine is mad at me for staying up 2 time zones too late!
Fun! My grandson, the advanced sleeper!
Those little beans always like to play! Glad you got a little spa time in before the busy day started!
I could never sleep if I was hungry in the middle of the night during my pregnancies, now even with breast-feeding I get up sometimes and grab a little snack in the middle of the night so I can sleep! (usually just a spoonful of peanut butter or few crackers do the trick!)
I’ll have to find the Pandora Spa station. I’m sitting on the lanai with the bamboo fountain going but the heat is going to force me in soon. Boo! Have a great weekend!
I love graham crackers. They always remind me of childhood.
Enjoy your breakfast!
have fun! i love food conferences
Its been over 16 years since I was last pregnant and the picture of those vitamins still causes a gag reflex!!
Thats one of my clearest memories from my first pregnancy. My husbands alarm went off at like 430 in the morning on accident and woke the baby inside(probably right around 27ish weeks too). It really made it seem like such a little person inside and not just a fetus!
Spa morning sounds good to me! haha even if you did have to wake up at 5! Those prenatal vitamins look MASSIVE! hopefully just the perspective of the picture??
Ooooh, I LOVE that eye mask. Hopefully you will completely crash out tonight and get a solid ten hours of the absolute best sleep ever!
That eye mask is adorable, and reminds me I NEED to buy one asap. The light in the morning wakes me up wayyyy too early.
Kath, can I ask you what Prenatal vitamis do you take? I take New Chapter Prenatal!
Whole foods brand… The green bottle
I take New Chapter as well on the advice of my nutritionist and I am not even prego, there is just good stuff in there. The New Chapter ones have those good herbs that make you not want to throw up your potent vitamins. Kath, I always thought the insomnia was natures way of prepping you for when the baby comes because you will have to be up with the baby.
Thanks for the pandora station. I’ll have to check that one out!
Enjoy your breakfast and have fun at the conference! And those vitamins…better you than me
Ah, graham crackers and peanut butter! the best!
I really like your eye mask!! Sounds like a very fun day ahead. Can’t wait to hear more about the conference!
haha I love that you already have to try and not wake the baby! Have a great day, Kath!
Cute eye mask! Reminds me a bit of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Have a great day at BlogHer
You should go to Delancey, http://www.delanceyseattle.com/ , it is run by the husband of Orangette, http://orangette.blogspot.com/ , who I think is due around the same time as you. It is wonderful wonderful wonderful pizza!
Mmmm graham crackers!!
I wonder why juice helps relax him? A cold drink always made my baby kick.
Love your site, Kath!
Wow what a wonderfully relaxing morning for you. It’s nice to make some time for yourself–you deserve it! Try and keep that relaxation mode throughout the weekend if you can
The baby didn’t get the memo that you were on West coast time – to him it was 8am! I was on the West coast last month for a week and never could sleep past 6am – my body would not give up the East coast schedule!
I’ve gotta check put the Spa station on Pandora!
I remember my first son was very active while I was pregnant with him and yet my second son was not…it made me worry to no end! As babies, my first would hardly sleep and my second was like clockwork…now my eldest is a teenager all he wants to do is sleep and my second still sleeps like clockwork…funny that eh!
I remember those sleepless pregnancy nights, it is an amazing time. I think it is to prepare you for hat is to come!
Enjoy your day at the conference!
Those look like huge prenatal vitamins! Everytime I take my prenatal vitamins I gag
But you gotta do what you gotta do!

It’s so crazy how juice puts you back to sleep. I would imagine the sugar would keep you up. Crazy!
Those vitamins are gigantic! I’m gonna be such a whimp – chewable for me!
I had my first really bad night yesterday…prior to this, I’ve been sleeping “like a baby”
Couldn’t get even a wink of sleep until about 6 AM! Hoping you get some good rest and have fun at the conference!
Love Pandora but I’ve never tried the Spa station! I guess I’ll just have to have a Spa day and check it out
