Is it old new yet? Because it’s not old news here. Nope, pumpkin season is just getting started! Still working on my 6 pound can. It’s about 1/3 of the way gone : )
Today’s mix
- 1/4 cup Scottish oats (steel cut pulverized in the blender to nearly a flour)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/3 cup milk, 1/2 cup water
- Pinch salt
- 1/2 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
- Few tbsp wheatberries, stirred in at end
- Pinch ground cloves, pinch all spice, sprinkle cinnamon, grate of fresh nutmeg
- Fig butter + Barney Butter on top
Friend For The Ride
My mom finally started a blog! Her niche is women’s issues, specifically menopause. The blog is part memoir, part humor, part idea exchange for women both young and old. Today’s topic: Cravings! Hope you’ll check it out : )
Mom has a blog. Sister has a blog. Dad……?
Rain is coming down…again. But the forecast looks good. Tomorrow I’m going to visit my grandmother and mother in Maryland, so I’m hoping for sunny skies soon!

The bears need a blog! My bear says he’s ready to guest blog for them any day. Their blog tagline: Always Feeling Stuffed.
Ahhahah!
Love the name of the bears’ blog!
This is one of the most inventive bowls of oatmeal I’ve ever seen.
Ohh that breakfast looks delicious, and such a pretty color- very Halloween-ish especially with the fig butter on top!
That overhead view of your tea (?) is so smooth and glassy it doesn’t look real!
I promise you it was
Yay for family with blogs! Both my sisters have had blogs in the past. One of them actually still keeps one.
Pumpkin is most definitely NOT old news here! They’re just barely showing up, but they’re coming with a vengeance! I also just discovered that Lubbock (the closest large town/city to my town) is absolutely OBSESSED with all things Halloween! I’m a very lucky gal.
Awesome about your Mom’s blog. Yay! I’ve just turned 50 and am approaching (very slowly, I hope) this topic. My sis and I started a blog about being 40+/50+ and we’ll look to your Mom for guidance. My Mom can’t remember any of it — she’s 80+!
Cute about your mom. That’s partly how I got going. Lots of my friends can’t remember a thing. Good luck with the blog and keep in touch.
Thanks! We definitely will. And we want to hear the good AND the bad. Tell it like it is.
So cool about your mom having a blog now too! The bears need their own blog next ; )
Loving the pumpkin breakfast!
Happy Monday! xoxo
The bears are working on it, but they need to finish soccer season first.
I second Chad’s comment. Bet it was pretty yummy
And congrats to the girl’s of the family for blogging.
Go, Mama Kerf! I’m excited to see the entry of a new voice for the Boomer demographic!
That is so exciting about your moms blog! And your post reminds me that I am out of pumpkin and need to stock back up on it! I miss pumpkin oats in the morning!
That’s great your mom started a blog – how fun! Her background was the same one I initially used when I started on Wordpress.
And pumpkin is never old news here…mmm love it!
Your oats look fantastic!
I’m forwarding this to my mom! She’ll love it, going through that “stage” herself right now
Pumpkin can’t be old yet…it’s only three days into October
How cool that your mom started a blog too! Y’all are a blogging family for sure
Yum this looks great! Maybe you should change the blog name to Kath Eats Pumpkin
Lovely pumpkin props this morning Kath! That’s so great that your mom started a blog too! I’m going to head over and check it out now.
I checked it out yesterday. She had me cracking up. I’ll make sure to follow.
YAY for Mommy blog!! I’m glad she’s decided to start one.
Your oats this morning look awesome! I bought 4 cans of pumpkin yesterday, woop woop!
Love that your family blogs! My hubby has one too though it’s more of a site: http://www.themansguidetolove.com
Each day they show a video of a guy giving advice about love. They’re being turned into a book, a movie, & my hubby has even been interviewed as a “love expert” for Oprah.com!!!
Oh how cool!!
Those oats look delicious! I am craving pumpkin oats! Good thing I was able to find some canned pumpkin. I really need to stock up.
Ok, pumpkin oats for breakfast it is! Congrats to your mom, that’s awesome.
Good for your mom, there’s always time to try something new in life. And pumpkin never gets old.
Honestly, does pumpkin EVER get old?
Your mom’s blog is so cute!
If my dad had a blog it would be like the old guy down the street who scares kids for fun…in written form.
Way to go, Mom!
Do you use the vitamix blender?
yup!
Haha – the family that blogs together sticks together
My sisters both have blogs too – it’s so fun to be able to talk “blog things” with family
Your breakfast looks incredible. I cannot wait for my move to be over to so I can break open a can of pumpkin and add it to my oats!
I couldn’t imagine working through a 6 lb can! I had to get a 1 lb can (there were no normal sized cans at my grocery store?
) and while I love pumpkin it just feels like sooooo much! More baking in my future I guess!
The blog world is contagious in your family, that is, all but your dad
Maybe he will soon get the bug

Your breakfast looks so yummy! I am hoping to get a can of pumpkin at the store this week – I want to try making pumpkin-dipped french toast!
I never get sick of pumpkin!
I will also have to introduce your mom’s blog to my mom…since she is now being introduced to the lovely menopause. haha
yay for a new blog!!
love the endless pumpkin, kath! i will never get sick of it. despite the chilly chicago temps, i sipped on a delicious pumpkin pie smoothie this morning. YUM!
Aw trips to see family are always the best.
Enjoy it Kath!
This looks absolutely wonderful. I love the idea of adding fig butter, too! Never would have thought of that one. I’m so happy it’s finally really fall! Pumpkins, cider, and scarves. Whats not to love?
a 6 pound can?! Holy smokes. That is awesome!
I want pumpkin oats soon now….
Pumpkin never gets old!
Your family are blogging crazy! What a great outlet for your mom and I’m sure there’s a huge group of women out there who would benefit from here experiences. Good for her!
I must get more of that fig butter. It’s so good on oatmeal!
That cup of coffee looks so gorgeous I could cry.
Congrats to your mom! I like her blog’s niche. Sounds like a great read.
That’s so neat about your mom starting a blog. She has the same layout and background that I use. I look forward to reading what she has to say. And to answer your question, no pumpkin oats is not old yet. It NEVER gets old. I could eat it every morning. By the way, do you cook your wheatberries before adding them in or are they totally raw. I would think you would need to cook them, right?
Kath’s sister Laura found it for me. We thought it went well with the roller coaster theme. Looks great on your blog too!
I love the photo of your cup of tea! (I’m assuming it’s tea since you’re on a tea kick, but it almost looks like coffee!) I’ll definitely check out your mom’s blog–thanks for sharing!
Gosh I was on the brink of giving coffee a rest because I haven’t been craving it as much lately, but that gorgeous seamless cup has possibly made me change my mind. Darn!
Sorry if you’ve already addressed this, but how are you keeping all that pumpkin from going bad?
I eat it quickly! (not kidding..)
NEVER tired of pumpkin. And that’s so great for your mom, I’ll definitely check it out! She’s going to have some serious stats her first day blogging!
I have also been on a pumpkin kick. Actually, more of a all types of winter squash kick. Butternut squash soup, stuffed acorn squash, sweet potato pumpkin smoothies…and the list could go on.
Thanks for all your inspiration. You are a very special and gifted person who brings joy to many people.
The pumpkin oats look amazing (changed my life when I first read about you eating them!), and congrats to your mom on her blog. It would be perfect reading for MY mom…I’ll pass it on for sure
Matt needs a brewing blog!
p.s. I read some of your moms blog last week and it’s so funny!
He HAD a brewing blog but he dropped the ball and eventually let it go to the internet compost
aww bummer! I know my bf would love to read his brewing adventures now that he’s home brewing.
I took your lead and made some cottage cheese/pumpkin oats last night. They were to die for!
Pumpkin never gets old for me either. If I had a 6 lb can, I would happily eat pumpkin oatmeal everyday until it was gone!
Congrats to your mom on starting her blog!
Thank you ALL for checking out my blog and for your kind words. Those of you who are younger, please tell your moms!
I have been eating pumpkin in my oats every morning for past 2 weeks. I add blueberries instead of banana. What is barney butter?
It’s an amazing roasted almond butter
Great to find your mom’s blog! If I should ever get tired of pictures of bowls of oatmeal (as if!) your mom offers up a (cute!) bowl of unused tampons! Awesome!
What a blogging legacy. Y’all must be beaming!
Just saw this. Fun comment. My own mom is mortified. Glad Kath isn’t too!
love the additions of the mini pumpkins in the pics… buying a mini pumpkin in October for my bedroom was always one of my favorite traditions growing up
I love that your mom started a blog, that is so awesome.
Also, those tiny pumpkins are too cute.
Yummy brekkie! Congrats to you Mom! I love her page design
I wish for October to stay forever if we’ll be getting this kind of dishes. Look so delicious *drooling*
