Mmm, doughy oats. Just finished my OOIAJ, thanks to you introducing them to me. They have grown on me, as I wasn’t a fan at first. But, yum!
Love the glass!

I love adding some oats to my smoothies — I first read about it in New Rules of Lifting for Women and I thought it sounded insane — but it adds really great texture!
Those chalk glasses are super cute!
Does it make it thicker? Never been a smoothie fan because I prefer thick stuff…and just eating the food
But if it was more like a thick shake or something it’d be more appealing.
Oooh, love the chalkboard glass! So fun! Have a great Monday
Love the grass sticking up out of the glass in the last photo.
Blended brekkie sounds delish!
I was just about to say the same thing
The oat dough looks fab! Love the chalkboard glass- too cute!
Love the chalkboard glass!
Oooh, I love oats, but have never tried blending them in a smoothie. Methinks I should! Yum!
I’m hosting a giveaway on my blog – something fitness related – you should check it out!
I absolutely can’t believe there could be more snow. I’m all for the chilly weather, but not snow!
The smoothie looks beautiful, but I have no idea how you do cold eats when it’s this cold out. I am freezing! I hope you have a great week!
You could probably make that glass with a bit of chalkboard paint.
I am dying to make blended oats! They look amazing.
Do you blend them while they are hot or after they’ve cooled? If you blend them while hot do you serve them hot as well?
I have roommates and have a hard time making blended items in the morning. I am going to try to start making them at night, so do you think I could make these oats at night? Keep them chilled in the fridge and serve them chilled? Or possibly just throw them in the microwave for a few seconds?
Thanks!
Keyword being “RAW oats”
Oh! That was silly of me. I guess it’s going to be one of those days! Thanks Kath
LOVE the chalkboard glass! Almost as much as the oat smoothie mm!
Love all the chalkboards you guys have!! I have always loved that “look” and think it will be awesome in your bakery
Ahhh, love this new chalkboard craze!
That smoothie sounds amazing! Great way to defy the snow you got yesterday.
I keep meaning to blend my oats – I even write notes to myself to do it, then I forget
it’s infuriating! Maybe I need a chalkboard too :p
Those glasses are totally cute!!
Stay warm today! We don’t have any snow in the forecast but it is very cold!
Looks so delicious. I LOVE the chalky glass!
LOVE that glass. Can’t wait to hear some details about it. I woke up wanting a smoothie this morning too…but yours looks much better than mine was!
MMMmmmm that sounds delicious! Love the glass too! One of my friends just painted an entire wall in her kitchen with chalkboard paint and it looks amazing. I’d love to do it too, but I don’t think it would look right in my house. Have a great day Kath!
Love the photo of that cat – too cute!
I also love adding raw oats to my smoothies, which I started doing last summer. I’m always amazed by how filling it is to add them in, and nut butter too. Have a great Monday.
Does blending change the nutritional value of food at all (with smoothies or oats)? (Does the body have to do “less work” because its already been broken down some?)
It only changes the glycemic index – or how fast it enters the blood. It doesn’t change the nutritional value
I’m having some doughy oats right now! So tasty. I always feel like I’m eating a cookie batter for breakfast!
How are you eating breakfast outside? It’s chilly willy up here in DC
Just photographing! And it was freezing
I love raw oats in a smoothie, yum! I have a chalk board mug, always fun
That sounds like a fabulous breakfast combination!!
Such a cute glass! I picked up some pint glasses with a small chalk board on them a while back from world market. I want one of those now!
Mmmm doughy oats! I almost wonder if you added a couple more ingredients if you could bake this into cookies or muffins?
Might be a fun experiment!
I love the chalkboard idea. Would be great for labeling in a blind taste test or with people’s names during a party – FUN!
Sorry accidentally linked to my friend’s blog:) But if you want to hear about her beekeeping adventures check it out!
The glass is adorable, so is the cat. Any opensky promos on him?
Haha. Maybe a portrait of him!?
Love the new glass – a great way to help people keep track of their glass at a party!
Enjoy your day.
Smoothies blended with oats are so yummy! Top it with some choc chips and presto- choc chip almond butter cookie dough mmmm
I’ve never made a smoothie like this! I’m going to have to try it! I’m assuming that the oats make it really creamy!!
P.S that cat is adorable!!
Looks just like my mothers cat!
oh my goodness; I am totally all about that glass! I’ve seen other chalk ones with the label on the side but this is so much better. I wonder if there is a way to devise a DIY one
Those are the best looking oats! So creamy and delicious! I love that glass! It’s so cool that there is chalkboard on the glass!
I freakin’ love those glasses! They’d be fantastic for parties.
re: chalkboard glass – Me want!
Mmm… those blended oats looks so good. I will have to try that soon!
Hi Kath,
I was down visiting my sister yesterday and she mentioned that she was going to ask me to go to Great Harvest Alexandria to pick her up some of her favorite bread. I was happy to tell her she would soon have a much closer option in Charlottesville and turned her on to your business site. She was asking for the Spinach Feta bread, I notice it isn’t on your list of favorites. I had thought maybe it was Popeye (it made sense) but then looked that up to find out it was another Spinach bread. Any chance you will be making the Spinach Feta? Also her twins are Rosemary and Olivia and we think you should be able to come up with a great Rosemary Olive bread. Looks like things are going well with the bakery. Good luck to you and Matt.

They are slightly different – Popeye has herbs and red pepper and Spinach Feta is just spinach and feta. We don’t have SF on our opening menu, but we will probably do it as a special sometime. And I LOVE the names Rosemary and Olivia!! Rosemary Olive would be a great bread!
Your ‘Oat Dough’ sounds amazing
Have a great day!
Are you going to the VDA meeting next week!?
I’d really like to go but am not sure yet. It’s going to depend on my husband’s schedule which is always last minute
I should know by the end of the week. I’d love to hear Ellyn Satter talk on Sunday morning.

The cat is just too cute!! No cats visit me though, my dog would bark his head off (while wagging his tail… )
That is such a great glass – they would be fantastic for parties!
cool glass idea!
Cute glass, your breakfast looks very elegant
Saddest day Kath! Our local GH closed its doors!
Oh noooooo
where are you?
Mishawaka, Indiana. I’m so sad to see them go! They always seemed busy and the farmers’ market booth they had always sold out. Its tough times for small businesses.
Yummy! That smoothie sounds good, I wish I had a blender!
Ahh love the glass! Too cute!
Love the chalkboard glass!! So cute. I have the regular chalkboard glasses from Pier 1, need to get those now, too!
Love the glass! That would be so much fun for parties.

Ohh..I HAVVVVVE to know where those glasses came from. They would be PERFECT for mother’s day!..My mom and grandmother always complain about who’s glass is whose..and where their glass in! Love the idea!!
Subscribe! There’s a deal in the making with a glass and vase
I love your glass, and the company you had for breakfast
More snow on the horizon for you? Oh, no
I love the glass with the ‘chalkboard’ bottom – very fun!
Such a cute glass! Need to order a couple:)
I wanted to ask you a silly question about your pictures. The pictures that are somewhat slanted…do you roate the picture in lightroom or do you actually photograph the photo that way? Sorry, random question!
I just angle the camera that way!
I can’t wait for some doughy shake! That glass looks like it would be the perfect party glass. I bought my friend a chalkboard coffee mug; she loved it. But I forgot to ever buy one for me!
Mmmm, I love cookie dough smoothies…
i love chalkboard decour, especially since I am a teacher!
Love that glass! Sure beats having wine doodles. You can put their name and what type of wine.
I used to think that smoothies wouldn’t leave me full, but your doughy oats may change that!
i must make the oat dough this week.. looks so yummy…. i have most of the ingredients except chia seeds and the kefir… can’t wait to try it..
Love those glasses!! I also liked the candle votives from your dinner the other night at the winery. I’m totally stealing that idea.
This looks amazing! I’ve never found kefir in Canberra but I can make it with normal soy milk, I’m sure
I always eat the granola clusters first too.
I hate it when I’m just left with crumbs at the bottom!
Oh, that smoothie sounds DELISH! I’m going to plan on making it For breakfast Wednesday! (Already have overnight oats in the fridge for tom
)
I made a smoothie like this but mine was very “chalky” I put it in the Vitamix and blended away a bit more, but still very chalky, not smooth at all. Any specifics on how you blend yours?!!!
Hmmm I really have no idea. You didn’t put any protein powders in it, did you?
Oh blended oats! i’ve heard of blended cooked oats but never blended uncooked. mm
