Withered Feet + Witherspoon

We walked for over 4 hours today – my feet and legs are absolutely zonked!! The walk to lunch was over 12 blocks, but there was no sense moving the car (because it didn’t make sense to have to re-park and to save the environment and to get exercise but it was a loooooooong walk!) But I am thankful for 3 things:

1) That I carry band aids in my purse

2) That I married a man who enjoys giving foot massages

3) That I have Epsom Salts upstairs

But the walk was worth it because REESE WITHERSPOON and Jake Gyllenhaal were dining at Hominy Grill!!! Reese is my favorite actress, so I was more than starstruck. As much as I wanted to snap a photo for you guys, I resisted being obnoxious, but I did go to the bathroom mid-meal just to look at them again 🙂

On to the more boring report, I ordered a grilled vegetable salad for lunch. The Hominy menu was kind of small and very brunchy and this was very appealing in the heat. It came with bleu cheese crumbles, shrimp, some roasted carrots, mushrooms and cauliflower and a sherry vinaigrette.

(For some reason I cannot get this photo to upload. Grrr. Sorry guys. It just looked like mixed greens with shrimp on top).

My salad wasn’t that filling, so we decided to get one of the delicious sounding cakes for dessert. The husband and I shared a Lady Baltimore. The icing was great, but the cake part was meh. I ate about 25% of our piece.

Meredith and Scott ordered Chocolate Pound Cake and Coconut Cake. The pound cake was good, but the coconut cake was by far the best thing I ate all day!! I had a bite of each –

Dinner @ Social

After a few more hours of walking and shopping, we settled for an early dinner at Social Wine Bar + Restaurant. We were starving and exhausted!! Since we were driving back, we didn’t want to eat somewhere formal and heavy but we had a hard time deciding what else we were in the mood for. I swear we are the most indecicive people in the world!!

We initially just went in for a drink at Social around 5 thinking it was just a wine bar but we liked our bartender so much and the menu turned out to be really good, so we decided to stay.

I LOVE restaurants that offer smaller “tastes” of wines instead of full glasses. It’s always more fun to try more kinds and you don’t have to commit to a full glass. I ordered a 2.5 oz pour of the Tretadue Old Patch Red. If you EVER see this winery on a menu, GET IT!! We went there on the honeymoon and loved all of their young and fruity reds.

trenta.JPG

We started with the Thai Spring Rolls. I had one.

dsc08964.JPG

A second taste – white

dsc08965.JPG

The bread was so good – and came with a trio of dips. Olive tampenade, whipped butter and the most delicious sun-dried tomatoes I’ve ever had.

dsc08970.JPG

I had 2 pieces of bread –

dsc08966.JPG

I ordered a spinach salad. It was kind of small, but came with yummy goat cheese balls.

dsc08967.JPG

The husband had BBQ Shrimp. I had one. (We can’t go through a dinner without tasting each other’s choices.)

dsc08968.JPG

And finally, a Margarita Pizza. It was an “individual size” and thin crusted. I ate every bite!

dsc08973.JPG

And I was peer pressured into a third wine taste – which I only had half of and gave the rest to the hub because I was starting to feel dehydrated.

dsc08976.JPG

Gelato, Charleston-Style

After dinner we decided to go to the candy shop near the Market for a traditional Southern praline bite and found this tempting gelato selection!

dsc08977.JPG

I ordered the coconut and praline flavors in a small size and crumbled a praline over top. It was decadant and delicious. It also put me over the top of fullness – not the best for a 3.5 hour drive home 😳
dsc08978.JPG

I am exhausted and ready for bed. And my legs most definitely need a day off tomorrow. I bet we covered over 8 miles today on foot!

I’ve also meet RW. 🙂 I used to work at Jamba Juice and she was a regular. She was so nice and I always served her cause she liked the way I made her smoothie. Sorry, I know I’m bragging but that is pretty much the highlight of the time I spent at JJ.

By the way, the food looks fabulous and the gelato is mouth-watering…

that is such an AMAZING end to your vacation. reese is fabulous, your meal looked amazing, and that gelato… to die for.

did anyone else read this month’s issue of instyle with carrie underwood on the cover? i have to say i was pretty disturbed… one of the first sentences of the article talked about how she had not eaten all day, was starving, but instead of going for the tray of sandwiches provided by the magazine (which i’m sure were fairly healthy), she drank a diet coke and nibbled on a weight watchers bar!! she then went on to say that she counts every calorie and fat gram that she puts in her body! i can’t imagine this being a healthy lifestyle. i am not saying at all that calorie counting is a bad thing, but combined with missing meals, subsisting on diet coke, etc… it just does not seem like an appropriate or healthy thing for a magazine to publish….

Foodie911 — I saw that same article about Carrie Underwood and I was so shocked! She doesn’t demonstrate a healthy relationship with food at all. I was surprised to read that she writes every single calorie down in a journal and that she hadn’t eaten all day–and her snack was a soda and a weight watchers bar. And to read that she said she has to be careful about what she eats because it shows up (her stomach must expand??), that is so normal. And one of her top 10 tips or whatever I can’t remember, was avoid dairy?? It was a strange article…

I promise I have nothing against calorie counting or not eating dairy because I am guilty of calorie counting (I have now stopped) and I don’t eat that much dairy as I am a vegetarian. I just think the way Carrie Underwood presented her relationship with food was just odd…

No offense but who cares what Reese or any star eats. That’s why you’ve got many mentally disturbed stars. Living under a microscope. What next, photographing and selling artistic prints of celebrity bowel movements. I don’t think #10 should have said Kath has bad taste in actors. That’s personal preference. With that said, I do not think that Reese, though she seems like a sweet enough girl/wholesome role model, really cannot, in my opinion, cannot act her way out of a paper bag. Jake is talented though. Glad you guys indulged your last day.

I’m going to sound all preachy, but it’s just something to think about….

When you see something that bugs/bothers/annoys/concerns you…take a second and consider that you really don’t even know Kath or her life story or circumstances (i mean, beyond the surface basics of education, interests, etc.) and that her loved ones, like MOM, read this and have to read some very presumptuous and critical things that people proclaim about Kath as if they’ve even met her. I like that people state their true opinions, but not when it’s a personal attack…toward anyone.

Bottom line, no one knows other peoples’ whole life history and we have to make snap judgments and if you put yourself in their shoes you probably wouldn’t want others judging every little thing you do.

i.e. Tammy…what a pointlessly rude way to attack Kath personally when you could just say “I don’t like Reece”…..

That has to be the best last vacation day I could have ever imagined 🙂 Mmm, the gelato looks heavenly + everything else. I love getting lots and lots of walking in throughout the day. Take care of those feet though!
And – Reese! I’m so jealous and totally admire your no-picture-taking-of-her abilities. hmm, I wonder what I would have done. Maybe I would have been too embarrassed to take one, atually, haha. Anyways, she is also one of my favorite actresses, along with Legally Blonde being one of my favorite movies 😀

I have been on a life-long search for the best most perfect gelatto. My quest began on my first trip to Italy.I went everywhere: from the Lake district, Como, Bellagio(pre- George Clooney), Milan, Venice, Perugia, San Giminiagno, Florence, Sienna, Bologna, Padua, Verona, Roma, Naples, to Capri, etc. Finally decided that I liked Florence’s best.
I found your blog bcz of your mentioning Reese.I am a foodie, too and had a lovely surprise on discovering your adventure in Charleston’s dining opportunities. I enjoy your blog! Will visit again.

Mary Kay Laterno came into my jamba juice once. i worked there in highschool. you have to ask their name, and she just said “mary”. I was tempted to put “mary Kay” but decided against it.

I think the article on Carrie Underwood doesnt deserve the negative feedback. Maybe she has an eating disorder, just because shes a celebrity doesnt mean she doesnt have an eating disorder, and just because shes a celebrity doesnt mean that she has to hide her eating disorder.
I do think that cutting out dairy and stuff is ridiculous, but maybe thats just how she is and how she eats, and while its not “normal” (what is normal eating, anyway?), its just what she does, and she doesnt have to hide it.
