{ why did the chicken cross the road? }

BLOG-9570

Just out for a morning walk like me!

BLOG-9568

Excuse me sir

BLOG-9565

Watch your back! Attack of the chickens!

BLOG-9572

Those guys gave me quite a surprise on my walk this morning : )

I didn’t notice them because I was staring at this beauty:

BLOG-9561

My walk ended up being 6 miles (I google mapped it when I got home). Holy smokes! It didn’t feel like that long. Just a pleasant stroll! I have plans to walk to Karen’s as soon as I’m done with this post. My legs don’t feel anything like they would if I’d ran that far.

Sights seen:

Once back on my own farm, I showered and whipped up some lunch.

BLOG-9597

BLOG-9590

A nice hot mix of microwaved veggies – bok choy on the bottom, then pinto beans, broccoli, red pepper, leftover roasted butternut squash, and pecans.

BLOG-9589

Mixed up in a dressing made from these:

BLOG-9580

    • The juice of half a lemon
    • 1 tsp tahini
    • 1/2 tsp garlic gold
    • Pinch rosemary salt

I love walks that you can just get lost into, like your own little world 🙂
Do you think you work as hard walking 6miles as you would running 6miles? Some people say you do, but I’m not sure..surely there’s more spring and bounce involved in running? I’m ALWAYS wondering about this!

I love this reply, Kath. I had childhood injuries that prevent me from running now without major pain. I ran through the age of about 20 before I realized the damage I was doing. Today, the majority of my longer workouts are nice long, fast walks involving hills/inclines. Most runners don’t consider walking a workout, so its refreshing to hear someone who is a runner and in great shape, also look at walking as a good workout, too.

And I LOVE the chicken photos! Too funny!

Not that running would have helped had he chosen me as his next snack. Did you know gators run really fast? Up to 25 mph for smaller gators!

I hope this comes across as hopeful and not belittling, so here I go… As a med student, I’ve still got lots to learn but from class, docs emphased that endometrial cancer counts amongst the “good cancers” (relatively of course) to get. They tend to present early and have a high survival rate (>95% at 5 years — INSANELY GOOD!) So keep that Karen active, happy, and hopeful. And uber hydrated once radiation starts.

    hi! Im Kath.

I'm a Registered Dietitian, healthy eater, and mom of two from Charlottesville, Virginia. Here you’ll find a healthy mix of real-life meals made from whole ingredients balanced with the pleasures of life, including buttercream frosting and good wine. Plus a sprinkle of nutrition, home life, beauty, parenting, and travel.
