Weekend Zapped

I can’t remember the last time I was sick. I think it was in 2009 when Karen and I both came down with something after a trip to Asheville. Late Thursday I started feeling queasy and then…it was all downhill for the rest of the night. Being sick with a baby who wants to nurse every 2 hours all night was rough. One time I just got him latched on and had to jump back up and run. Ugh. THANKFULLY he never got what I had, which we think sounded like norovirus or the stomach flu. Hooray for breast milk. Things had calmed down by Friday, but developed a fever of 101 all day! Matt had to go into work, so I was home with Mazen. He played on the floor while I laid next to him and passed him toys until Matt could come home and took care of him the rest of the day so I could sleep. Single parents: hats off once again.

It took me the entire weekend plus some, but my stomach is finally feeling better. If I didn’t know otherwise, I would have thought I drank 2 bottles of wine AND had morning sickness at the same time. The lingering nausea took me right back to a year ago…the food aversions, the constant churning. Thank goodness for maternal fat stores because I barely ate anything and somehow managed to keep my milk supply going. Mazen didn’t seem affected at all by the whole ordeal.

Foodblog-3137

First meal – buttered toast + Izze from the bakery

Foodblog-123117

Tried to drink some chicken broth and ate an egg with more toast for dinner

Foodblog-171002

This was the most delicious AB&J sandwich. Just like mom used to make. Loaded up to pack in the calories. It’s rare that you’re trying to make a 500 calorie sandwich, but I knew I needed the fuel!

Foodblog-3149Foodblog-095641

I only managed to eat half of this chicken breast + cheese sandwich for dinner. And that’s the only green thing I ate all weekend.

Foodblog-3150

Feeling a little better on Sunday…

Kodiak cake with banana + syrup. Not a typical KERF pancake to be so simple!

Foodblog-3156

Lunch was a tortilla with egg and avocado

Foodblog-3163

Matt and I were lucky enough to be able to slip away for a few hours to go on a date! To see The Hobbit!!!! We are HUGE Lord of the Rings fans and our first date was to see Fellowship of the Ring 11 years ago. It was surreal sitting in the theater with an encore of our favorite trilogy, and we both loved the first of The Hobbit movies. The dialogue was great, and the foodie scenes even better!!

We enjoyed some classic popcorn and a Coke Zero that made my stomach feel much better (at mom’s advice!)

Foodblog-135754

For the Superbowl, we had Kipton (who babysat!) and Karen over to make pizzas.

My little football! My aunt + uncle (who live in Baltimore) gave us this onesie. So glad he had the perfect occasion to wear it!

Foodblog-3187

ACHOO!

Salad

Foodblog-3190

Dough

Foodblog-3192

We made a version of THIS pizza in honor of New Orleans. Andouille, shrimp, chicken, gruyere, cream sauce.

Foodblog-3193

Wish I could have fit more, but my stomach was just not having it. I was proud of eating those greens though!

Foodblog-3196

Lots of sparkling water –

Maze calls this his heartbreaker face : )

Sorry you were so sick! I remember having a stomach virus when my first child was 4 weeks old and my husband had to go to work so I was on my own. I remember leaning over to barf while nursing, it was awful. Then it got even worse when both my husband and daughter got it too. I made my husband’s mom come over and take care of her son while I took care of my daughter and myself. I couldn’t take care of all 3 of us (I was still feeling bad) at one time.

My Dad and stepmom got a stomach bug recently when they went to run the Disney half-marathon. They got sick a few hours later and were stuck in bed at the hotel for a few days. They were feeling well enough for their flight home on a Tuesday (they got sick on a Saturday), but were still not 100% until the end of the week.
