Weekend Wedding: D + L

This weekend we had the pleasure of driving up to Georgetown for the wedding of Matt’s fraternity brother, David, and his beautiful bride, Lauren.

Foodblog-7069

Matt left on Friday by train so he could attend the rehearsal and festivities as a groomsman, and Maze and I went to Fridays After Five and to bed at 9pm. (I think we were getting up when Matt was going to bed!)

Foodblog-7021

Saturday morning Karen and I drove up to Georgetown to join everyone. Karen graciously offered to babysit for us during the wedding and took M on a picnic with two of her friends.

We had a great time reuniting with many of our college buddies!!

Foodblog-

Casey and I talked about being moms while the guys discussed old times and drinks

Foodblog-7011Foodblog-7025Foodblog-7027

The ceremony was a few blocks away, so we all walked from the church to the reception.

Foodblog-7008

So glad I brought some walkin’ shoes in my purse!

Foodblog-7009

The reception was held at Dumbarton House, a historic picturesque garden setting.

Foodblog-7010

Foodblog--2

We sipped drinks and nibbled on passed apps until the bride and groom made their entrance.

Foodblog-7016

Lauren was stunning!

Foodblog-7022

I loved their menus – both in paper and in food!!

Foodblog-7049

One of the best wedding meals I have ever had. I feel like buffets are so popular, but this was a night where a plated dinner really shone.

The salad was one of the best I have ever had!! Buffalo mozzarella with watercress with sliced grapes, edible flowers, parmesan crisps in a lavender-honey-lime vinaigrette. Underneath it all was a pistachio pesto of sorts. Incredible!

Foodblog-7055

The main course was a perfectly rare beef tenderloin topped with sautéed mushrooms and spinach, Maryland crabcake with a peppercorn sauce, sweet corn soufflé, asparagus and tomatoes. I couldn’t decide which of the flavors I liked the most!

Foodblog-7060

Lauren made Oreo truffles as favors for each place, so these served as First Dessert : )  Loved the peanut butter the best! I can’t believe how many of these she must have assembled.

Foodblog-7053

Second dessert !!!!

Foodblog-7044

Check out their adorable cicadas. David said he thought they would be swarming so why not embrace it, but I have to say I think these were the only two cicadas in the room ; )

Foodblog-7056

Foodblog-7079

Foodblog--3

OREO cake!! Gah I loved this filling. They also had red velvet and carrot cake. I had bites of all three from friends – but the Oreo was my fav.

Foodblog-7093

We spend the rest of the night dancing to a great band!

Oh I love the back of her dress – it’s so gorgeous. What fancy dinner food too! I am so loving all the wedding recaps going on right now. I’m in complete wedding planning mode right now and it’s so much fun to see what other people are doing. I wish more of my friends would get married so I could go to weddings too. I’ve only been to one in the last 20 years! Crazy 🙂

Everything looks SO fantastic…except the cicadas. While it’s great that they were embracing something as annoying as those little buggers, I HATE bugs…even ones that are made out of frosting. Those little red eyes creep me out!

Uhm, but, everything still looks fantastic. 🙂

Random question: when you need to have a late night (like putting Maze to bet at 9 instead of his regular bed time) how do you swing it? We’re about to have a couple family events that necessitate such a move, and I’m wondering what your day looks like when bedtime gets moved?

      June 18, 2013 at 10:28 am

We used to be able to swing it, but now I think we just have to start using babysitters. I had to leave my sister’s rehearsal dinner early to put M to bed. It was sad. But we had a sitter for the wedding. Same with this wedding – Karen watched him. We can stretch his bedtime to 8 or 8:30 but not much beyond that.

Hey, you were in my neck of the woods! I love to play in Georgetown. Was there last night by the waterfront. Can’t beat the nightlife there. I haven’t seen a single cicada yet this year which is odd. They tend to come out in full force when it’s their time.

What a beautiful wedding! I especially love the cicada cake topper – I live in Florida and could totally see someone doing a “lovebug” one here. They are everywhere!

My husband and I also own a small business, and I so admire how you and Matt are seemingly able to travel pretty freely. Do you have any good tips or suggestions for the best way to go about that as a small business owner? I think I’m too much of a control freak to leave the business in the hands of someone else that much! 🙂

Are the blue denim shoes the ones you changed into to walk? Or the silver flip flops? Just curious,
neither looks like walking shoes to me.

Also wondering, was everyone’s beef rare? That’s the great thing about a buffet like your sister had, people can choose what they like to eat. Not everyone likes their meat uncooked.

Looks like a lovely day though! I love the bride’s hair and dress. Elegant but not stuffy.

The silver sandals are the most comfortable shoes ever and I brought them in case we walked. The denim shoes were my wedding shoes.

Beautiful wedding! Looks like a lovely evening. I’m just wondering though…when you attend a friend’s wedding, do you ask their permission to post photographs from the event to your blog? I’m just thinking of a few weddings I’ve been to lately where the bride and groom have specifically asked that friends not post pictures to social media until they’ve had a chance to do so themselves!
