Weekend Warriors

Finally starting to feel the effects of working full time – in a GOOD way: free weekends!!!! This might be the first time in AGES that I haven’t had work to do on the weekends. I’m caught up on my freelance work, the blog is being written as I type (hee hee) and our house is super clean and organized and ready for sale!

It was nice to watch two episodes of House Hunters and have the only tasks on my agenda include a run, a grocery store trip, a bit of food preparation and a party!

I set my alarm for 6:26 this morning so I’d have plenty of time to digest breakfast before my 11AM run with Emily. Often I sleep late, eat late and then am too sloshy to run before lunch!

Plus

this !
6:26 is a fun time to wake 😉

I opened a new product to review this morning: Bob’s Red Mill’s Apple + Cinnamon + Grains Hot Cereal! This guy came in the massive breakfast package of samples they sent me a while back :)  Bob!

IMG_5354 (640x427)

Ingredients include a variety of grains plus dried apples, flax and cinnamon

How bout dem apples!?

IMG_5360 (640x427)

IMG_5375 (640x427)

For TWO SERVINGS I cooked:

  • 1/2 a cup hot cereal
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tbsp chia
  • Pinch salt
  • Splash vanilla

Toppings:

  • TJ’s PB
  • Coconut butter melted icing
  • Mix My Granola Banana Chip + Chia seed granoler

IMG_5378 (640x427)

I did like the subtle apple cinnamony flavor a lot 🙂 This would be even better with big chunks of apples mixed in.

Honestly it wasn’t all that filling because the volume was less than soupy oats. Hoping it’s one of those quality over quantity things and I still have enough energy and satiety…  Next time I might cook oats and mix in 1-2 tbsp of the apple cinnamon hot cereal to fill in the oat gaps.

I think this is a Monster Mash Monster!

Adding apples to that mix sounds delicious – I always find dry apples are no substitue for the real ones.

Enjoy your day – sounds like you’ve got some time for relaxation!

    Kath,

I got a juicer for Christmas. I’ve been enjoying making fruit juices but I am a little afraid of trying veggie juices. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions for some less flavorful veggies that I can add with the fruit to kind of “ease me in” to making veggie juice? Thanks!!

I think romaine and cucumbers are a good place to start. This morning, my mix was romaine, carrots, beets, lemon and english cucumber. I also really enjoy things like parsley and basil added into the mix.

There are definitely pros and cons to both sides regarding work/school. My philosophy is to enjoy whichever one you’re in, which I am doing despite the fact that I’m facing a Sunday full of schoolwork. 🙂

Yaayy good luck with the nine, you’ll be great!! I just completed my first half marathon this morning 😀 (sorry, I just had to tell someone!!!!) Don’t you love the glowy, basking-in-my-own-glory feeling after a long run!?
I’ve got some oats that have loads of other stuff mixed in, and I actually found them more filling than regular ones – mine had pumpkin and poppy seeds, so I can imagine the extra fats helped. Either way, I hope yours hold you over OK 🙂

Reading your blog has given me a brilliant idea..to open an oatmeal bar… you go there and there would be several types of oatmeal. and an array of toppings: fruits, nuts, yogurt, nut butters, granola
and there would be specials of the day. brilliant plan and incredibly healthy. it would be so cute.

hope your 9 miles went well!
