Weekend {The Other Sweet Parts}

A little late coming, but here are the rest of our weekend photos : )

Classic Cville summertime – Fridays After Five, City Market, and a date night at Commonwealth! I also went to a baby shower (more cupcakes!) and ran/walked 7 miles on Sunday in some great weather. And spent many hours crawling around on the floor playing <3

Foodblog-183636

Fridays Friends! Friday dinner was a corn + bean + basil salad with a loaf of spinach feta bread.

Saturday we went to the market in the heat of the day. I had a No Bull Burger for lunch.

Baby shower cupcake decorating fun at Sweet Haus!

Date night was fabulous!

Goat cheese + yuca fritters

And amazing Red Bean + Coconut Rice cakes with collard greens!

Foodblog-201541

Matt had the duck – which was awesome – and we shared this bowl of sautéed shitake mushrooms and parsnips. These shrooms were so meaty I couldn’t believe they were a vegetable.

Foodblog-201553

For dessert we stopped in to say hi to our neighbors and I had a cookie from their cookie jar! I have the recipe too – making them soon : )

Sunday Bongo Playin’!

I’m doing tons of walking + running outside, but now that it’s hot I’m going to try to get back to the gym more.

Ahh, weekends. I don’t have Friday classes this summer so my weekend starts at 7:25pm tonight. Wahoo! I love your date night dress. It’s so summery and it looks super comfy, which is definitely one of my top requirements in any outfit.

Very envious of your Fridays After Five. Picnic as much as I can but Irish summers are a little less reliable than yours so it’s more of a last minute thing. Don’t you think food eaten outdoors tastes wonderful! Hope you’re enjoying the change in blog format, still loving reading all about KERF! x

I believe so. I think he (the expert) would say it has less gluten (protein) and might not knead up as well. But yes, I think it will work

I would not recommend making a whole wheat bread with only pastry flour. Pastry flour has a very low protein percentage, and protein in flour is what leads to gluten production when the protein is exposed to water. To put it in perspective, AP flour goes anywhere from 8-11% protein, bread four (from which bread is typically made, obviously) is 12-14% protein, cake flour is 8-10% protein, and pastry flour is somewhere between cake and AP. Although some breads are made with all AP flour or a mix of AP and bread flour, going any lighter on the protein could end in a crumbly bread, and from my understanding it doesn’t work well with yeast in general.

    Looks like a fun weekend!

A few of my dietetic internship girls and I are planning a relaxing weekend trip to Charlottesville in the next few weeks. Is there a website you recommend of good activities/restaurants/markets etc? I’ve found some but not sure if a “local” would have a better idea? Thanks!

Love Mazen’s bongo playing! My 9 mo old does the same right now and loves to mimic her big (3 yr old!) brother! She also has two little pumpkin teeth like Mazen. So fun seeing how these little loves are developing!

Also, love your dress and the food as usual!
