Weekend.

Foodblog-4002

We had an a-Mazen weekend thanks to some warm weather and a free schedule. Lots of playtime and relaxin’ around the house.

Friday night we made lentil burgers out of my lentil salad. We just added an egg, formed patties and then fried ‘em up. Served on Gouda + Stout buns with a broccoli salad. I tried to replicate the broccolini salad we had at Bald Head, but this didn’t turn out quite as good. I’ll have to wait for the wedding to have it again! This one was a mix of mayo, apple cider vinegar, honey and Dijon mustard dressing plus golden raisins and almonds.

Foodblog-

Saturday morning oats! I mixed Coach’s Oats, rolled oats, chia seeds and buckwheat for the ultimate texture combo. Plus banana, obviously, and sunflower butter.

Foodblog-3973

Foodblog-3968

Saturday afternoon Matt went to a dad’s group meet up and I took the opportunity to get my first pedicure in six months. Ya heard me – six months. I neeeeeeeded one.

Foodblog-145556

I picked out the above color, put my name on the list, waited 10 minutes with my Better Homes & Gardens and then was told they were totally booked for the whole day!!! I had a gift card Karen gave me for Christmas and didn’t want to go elsewhere, so I left with unpainted toes. Such a bummer!! So instead I went to Trader Joe’s : ) Filled up on sunflower butter and Cilantro Jalapeno hummus but I FORGOT SMOKED TROUT! D’OH! I am so out and want more!

The recipe I planned for dinner called for a cup of white wine. Good reason to open a bottle and drink the rest, huh?!

Foodblog-4030

We made Simply Recipe’s Fish Chowder and it was superb.

Foodblog-4036

We subbed out onions and used celery instead. We used half and half instead of heavy cream because that’s what we had on hand. And we used the Alaska Seafood Black Cod they sent me earlier this year as the star of the show.

Sooo good!! Smothered in fresh parsley.

Foodblog-4043

Crunchy Irish Soda Bread on the side!

Foodblog-4041

On Sunday we feasted on pancakes – Great Harvest mix with trail mix and chia seeds throughout and Wild Friends nut butter on top. Nothing drizzles quite like Wild Friends!

Foodblog-4047

Mazen took a TWO HOUR nap, and I had time to organize the attic, change all the bedding, wash all the diapers, organize the spices, run and empty the dishwasher and read. It was definitely a “what did I do all day before I had a baby” moment.

Foodblog--3Foodblog-2

Then we ran 4 miles!!

Foodblog-4060

Lunch to refill. Turkey + pickle sandwich plus salad with hummus and avocado and apple

Foodblog-4058

We spent the afternoon playing on the porch. [Side note: I actually got in my car to go back to the pedicure place and decided to call first – they were closed!! So glad I didn’t drive all the way there.]

Foodblog-4008

I bought this rug and just love that the porch is now a room we can play in. We moved the table to the corner so the seating takes priority and we can spend the spring outside.

Foodblog--4

Foodblog--2

I had a request for a “not smiling” photo – here’s one! Choogie Pie still doesn’t love tummy time for that long.

Foodblog-4022

We ended the evening with an extra hour of sunshine and a clean kitchen – leftovers for dinner!

How frustrating about the nail salon. If you didn’t have a gift certificate, I probably wouldn’t go back. Lol. I’m not very patient in that way 🙂

That soup looks delicious. I always go for just plain broth, meat and veggies, and then forget the herbs! I have some rosemary sitting in our fridge at home so next time I’m back I’ll have to add that in.

Hey Kath, looks like a great weekend! Just curious…what is your general “rule” for alcohol and breastfeeding (i’m only assuming you are still breastfeeding). My daughter is 4 months and I haven’t quite figured out when the best time is. Sometimes at night her feeds are all over the place.

We went to open houses over the weekend and fell in love with homes we can’t move into. We should really stop doing that. Only 2 more years until our place is paid off and I want that deed in my hand before we buy a new place! 🙂

not sure why you would have a request for a not smiling photo, who wants to see a sad baby. It breaks your heart. Tummy time is hard, but he will get to the point that he likes it. Just keep with it. Lots of toys that are fun are good at tummy time, and books too. Also if you have a tummy time mat, or roll and towel and put it under him, it will help to prop him up a little bit. He may enjoy that. A 2 hour nap is really good for him, and mommy too. I am sure you needed that extra time. Sorry you couldn’t get in to get your pedicure, if they are busy that is a good sign. Usally that means they do great work. The lentil burgers sound yummy, I may have to try those next time in place of the veggie burgers. Beautiful pictures too.

Plus, you eat healthier than most of America, so I suppose you get a pass. 😉 (Hold on a minute, cleaning the Cadbury egg from my teeth.) Is there anything else you don’t like in terms of “real” food? I don’t really care for raw garlic or anything in the onion family. Has to do with the after-breath that one gets – I taste every single breath for 24 hours. There are other foods that I’m lukewarm on :cabbage, rice wine vinegar, cucumber, radishes to name a few. I eat them, but I don’t LOVE them.

Oh, what an a-Mazen weekend is right! These pictures totally brought a smile to my face. 😀

Which flavor of the Wild Friends pb do you like to have on hand? They all sound so delicious. 😀

Aww, he’s sooo sweet when he cries! I know it’s equal parts adorable AND sad, but those sweet cheeks are too tempting! Looks like you guys had a beautiful weekend 🙂

i ALMOST picked up that hummus at TJ’s tonight, but i would’ve just been buying it for a snack, and i have lots of snack foods right now. it’s so weird that i see it in your post now. must be a sign i should pick it up soon!

i think fussy baby pictures are SO cute! as long as they aren’t fussy from actually being in dangerous or pain, of course. but i think one of the cutest pictures i’ve seen of mazen so far is the one of him and matt. his little expression is just so cute, and i can so see him growing up by looking at that picture- like an adult person instead of baby. those more “plain expressioned” pictures are what i always loved seeing of my niece. it seemed like she would probably make that expression most often, so it made me feel like i was seeing more of her.

Thank you, dear Kath, for M’s last pic!! 😉 and of course for all of them.
(I am right, kids are super-adorable even when they pull faces!)

Are you trying something new with Mazen that awarded you this nap or was it just a fluke? My baby takes pretty good naps as of now but hasn’t started consolidating therefore I never know when I’ll be blessed with 2 hours or thrown off by 45 minutes! Makes it hard to decide between scrambling around doing every chore possible or enjoying a quick break!!

Nothing new, but we are sleep training so I think it was related to that!

Mazen is so incredibly cute. If he were mine, I’d get nothing done all day since I would just stare at those cheeks! One question – don’t you get tired of undoing his belt and jeans for diaper changes? I always found pants with a fly annoying when my son was that little. I almost always had him in sweatpants because my mother convinced me that jeans were not comfortable for babies.

Yeah, he’s most often in sweatpants at home, but I tend to put on the nicer pants when we go out (which we had been before these shots)

I love that Mazen is such a chub because my 4 month old is one too! He weighs probably close to 20 pounds (we aren’t sure–next appt is a week from tomorrow). People can’t believe he’s only 4 months when we meet them. I just say that’s the power of this Mama’s Milk!
