Truck Stoppin’

2012-07-05 15.53.16

It’s funny how running errands with your husband can feel like a date : ) Especially two folks in the bed of a big ole truck!

2012-07-05 15.21.56

I had to go to Lowes; Matt had a few supplies runs to make so we shared the trip up 29-N.

First stop: Shenandoah Joe’s to pick up a little something for this weekend and iced coffees to cool us off!

IMG_20120705_141816

I’m also trying this new decaf. While I loved hearing all of your suggestions around the web, I decided that for sustainability purposes I should look for something I can get locally (even if that means at the grocery store) so I don’t end up getting hooked on something that requires $10 in shipping. So I’m trying SJ’s Mexican. Sure smells good! We use their Colombian at the bakery and while I like it, I just don’t LOVE it. Hoping this is a love!

IMG_20120705_142710

We went to Lowes (got a hose holder and some spray paint!) and to Sam’s for toilet paper and bakery supplies and then headed to the bakery where we unloaded everything and switched cars. May I remind you that it was 100* and the truck is 20 years old, which mean the AC was not effective. HOT times.

2012-07-05 15.21.56

I tasted a cookie while at the bakery – not a stellar snack choice, but a good one!

I was in charge of the cooking tonight and roasted up a bunch of fresh summer veggies served with chicken sausage dogs!

IMG_1388

Okra, eggplant and tomatoes from both our garden and some that Matt got at the Pen Park market on Tues. I drizzled them all with olive oil and sprinkled on salt, pepper and smoked paprika and roasted for 40 minutes at 350*.

The dogs were Lou’s brand and were quite good – esp. served atop a doughy Cville Crunch slice!

IMG_1387

Sparkling water with a splash of Karen’s sweet tea!

IMG_1391

We’re planning to cut open a watermelon for dessert! [Can you tell Karen went grocery shopping today and we’re totally stocked up on the good stuff!?]

Ooh, I love a pan full of roasted veggies! Do you ever get the sausages made in-house from Whole Foods? The chicken ones are fantastic (especially the Tuscan flavor)!

The bed of the truck is the cargo area in the rear. You and Matt were in the cab of the truck right? It made me laugh to read that you said it was like a date and the two of you were in the bed of the truck. I’m pretty sure it would have been a really HOT date in the bed of that truck.
    Dinner looks delicious.

I had the exact same thoughts when I read this LOL. Glad you enjoyed your “hot” date. Do you think you and Matt will try to have “date nights” without the baby very often? We never did and still don’t go out without kids very often, but every once in awhile it’s nice to have an adult night out. We enjoyed some Aidell’s and Trader Joe’s chicken sausages this week with some roasted veggies and Great Harvest Asiago Pesto and Cracked Pepper, Swiss, Sundried Tomato. I’ll have to check out the Lou’s brand if I can find it here.

I giggled when I read “bed of the truck” too. Glad we got that clarified! Being in the bed of a truck with one you love can be a frolicking good time, but probably not in this heat. And probably not during advanced pregnancy!

I love Lou’s brand of chicken sausages–particularly the cilantro one–was this that one? If so, that is hilarious because I had the same dinner tonight but on hot dog buns 🙂

I was about to buy the SJ’s Mexican blend decaf at Whole Foods today, but one of the guys working there recommended Trager Brother’s Coffee (from Nelson County!) Blend 50–he said it’s his favorite decaf, great in a French Press, and great cold-brewed for about 10 hours. I’ll let you know how it is once I try it tomorrow morning!

I think I brewed it too long today…it got a little bitter, but with a tiny dash of raw sugar and some milk, it tastes great! Later this week I’ll make it cold-brew style, and we’ll see how that goes…

I must be tired because I just got so confused when you mentioned having sausage with your dinner–I couldn’t find it on your plate! Then after a good 30 seconds, I realized it was a bit camouflaged into the bread it was on. Woops!

Brave girl using the oven in that heat! We tend to fire up the bbq for doing cooked veggies in the summer (and I live in Canada, where our heat pales in comparison to yours). I always figure I’d rather keep the heat outside than have the air conditioner battle with the oven heat. Those chicken sausage dogs sound delicious!
