The Sunday Times

IMG_1137-2Blog

Morning!!

I slept in till 7 – which was great considering I was lights out at 10-something! I had plans for pancakes this morning, but neither Matt nor I had the energy to stand in front of the stove, so we had cereal bowls instead.

IMG_1136-2Blog

IMG_1143Blog

A mix of:

  • Puffed quinoa
  • Uncle Sam’s
  • Ripe banana
  • Honey peanuts
  • Coconut
  • Sunflower butter
  • Ambrosial granola
  • 2% milk

IMG_1134-2Blog

No coffee – that required too much energy too!

IMG_1140-2Blog

I spent an hour laying on the couch watching So You Think You Can Dance and am going to go out to do a little shopping in a bit, including WHOLE FOODS! Food predictions are hard these days because we’ve had so many spontaneous meals, so I’m mostly stocking up on salad ingredients and fruit. We’ve got plenty of yogurt from the WF closing sale, and lots of leftovers in the fridge and some meats in the freezer.

I also need work shorts!! Which stores have casual shorts good for roomy buttocks but small waists and NO CUFFS! I hate cuffed shorts! They always unravel on me.

Have a relaxing day!!

Honey peanuts sound delish in oatmeal. i’m going to have to make some of those!

I like J Crew shorts – plenty of leg room and definitely sans cuffs (can’t stand them either!).

I second the J Crew….but the J Crew in Cville is … ugh … let’s just say I had a really bad experience yesterday.

Banana Republic has good shorts, and GAP too. I went to GAP yesterday and there were a lot of good sales.

I will third the J. Crew shorts! They are perfect for a ‘roomy’ booty and a tiny waist. I prefer the chino shorts that comes in 3 inch and 5 inch lengths in store (and 7 inch online). They come in many different colors too! The 3 inch ones sound crazy short but I’m 5’3” and they are a great length -booty isn’t hanging out but it’s not quite mid-thigh and is really spacey for the legs.

I fourth this. I rotate between a couple pairs of the 5 inch (I am 5′ 2″, petite w/ booty)… they look tiny when I fold them, but on they are soooo comfy and I get compliments on them all the time. They come in a great variety of colors, are cuffless, and last and last. I am VERY active all day, chasing a toddler, working from home, and running all over town, and my pairs from last summer still look totally respectable… so I think they are worth the investment.

I’ve been on a American Eagle Bermuda Short kick lately. They’re roomy and there’s no risk of them being too short ( I have two kids and am constantly bending over, sitting of the floor, tangled like a pretzel ;)) and there is zero “riding up”. Good luck though!

I know exactly how you feel with the small waist and bigger back-end. My shorts and pants/jeans almost always have a gap in the back waistband but fit everywhere else. Super annoying since I don’t always want to wear a belt. I have found that the Old Navy perfect khaki collection of shorts are really comfortable and come in really nice colors. I get the 3.5″ inseam which might be too short for work, but I think they come in different inseams. Good luck!

I hope this link works because I’m on my iPhone. They have shorts with 7″ inseams, but I find they’re just a bit too long. These seem like a good option, especially since they aren’t outrageously expensive. I have shorts from Old Navy thay have lasted 3 years so $20 seem like a good investment. 🙂

I always have problems buying pants. I have an Italian/yoga booty and wide hips but a very small waist and short legs, so everything is either too long, too tight in the legs, or too tight in the butt, or way too big in the waist! 🙁 J.Crew usually works for me, and anything with a bit of stretch.

I live in Old Navy shorts (year around wear since I’m in FL). If you register online for their email, you’ll always get codes and coupons for 15-30% off, plus they always have sales. Their shorts are durable, and come in many different lengths. I’m almost 5’4 (haha) and the I like the 5″ length. They have some with a drawstring waist (you can see them online) and ribbed waistband that are cute and comfy and have been on sale in the store. I also like the basic Merona khaki shorts at Target. J. Crew I find to be too expensive and too short (unless you’re a teenager).

I am in the Jcrew boat along with a bunch of other people as well I see!

I have big thighs and a butt, but a small waist and I’ve been wearing Jcrew’s shorts for years. Go for the 5″, the 3″ is okay, but a smidge too short if you’re sitting down if you know what I mean (man I wish they made a 4″). Plus they come in a lot of fun colors along with the basics.

Don’t buy shorts from JCrew’s outlet or Factory online. The material and cut is sub par and not worth the $10 difference and won’t last as long. The shorts that I have from Jcrew have lasted several years and have held up very well, they are the only shorts I wear.

    wow I sound like a Jcrew commercial…think they’ll send me a coupon!?!

Wow, it sounds like so many of us readers are shaped just like you!!! I echo what most folks say (Loft, J Crew) but my biggest recommendation is don’t go cheap and if you find a style you like, get at least two or three pairs. If you get good quality, they’ll last for years and you will probably be picking basic colors and styles that aren’t going to go out of style. I haven’t had to shop for shorts in about four years!

I personally LOVE the Loft and Gap. Both sell non-cuffed shorts 🙂

Crazy bowl of cereal you have their btw. Looks awesome. I would never think to combine all of that… what inspired you to do that?

    Hey Kath,

Both Old Navy and Ann Taylor loft have great shorts right now! I prefer the Ann Taylor loft ones- good space in legs and rear and really flattering 😉

    I hope this helps!

Your cereal bowl looks delicious! I just ate breakfast an hour ago, but your bowl is making me hungry again. That’s not a good sign. Ha!
Good luck finding shorts. I hear you on the cuffed shorts. So annoying right? If they DO stayed cuffed, they fold the wrong way or something. Ugh. I only wear shorts that don’t need to be ironed. 🙂

Check out Ann Taylor Loft. They have shorts girls like us (small waist but full hips) and they have lots of shorts options depending on what you’re looking for!

Definitely Ann Taylor Loft! I have a small waist and muscular legs and they fit without gaping too much in the waist.

    Good luck!

I’m SO glad you asked the question about shorts! I’m almost 5’10”, but I have the same problem with the “muscular pear” shape(I love that, too! So thanks to the commenter above for that) with thick thighs, a larger butt, and a tiny waist. I’ve pretty much avoided shorts altogether for that reason and stuck with skirts and dresses for warm weather, but I’d love to be able to wear shorts too.

I agree w/ Old Navy and J Crew. I have the opposite problem, no waist and no booty. It’s hard for to find stuff that fits me as well. Good luck !

I have the same problem, and I have to wear longer shorts to work too – not necessarily a problem for you, but nonetheless – my favorites:

    – gap boyfriend shorts. So comfy!

    – Target makes a pair of cargo shorts – they ARE cuffed, but I don’t like cuffs either so I just cut the string making them cuffed and ironed them flat.

    – EMS (Eastern mountain sports, if you don’t have them) makes super awesome shorts too – definitely my favorite of all 3! And they’re not super sporty either.

Hi Kath, I have been making smoothies lately. I use silken tofu (which is really out of my element) berries, a little apple juice and ice… It makes me a great breakfast!! I have some allergies so a smoothie for breakfast is a really great alternative.

i’m SUPER picky about shorts, but i really like the 5″ inseams from old navy and j crew. although, if you go the j crew route, make sure they’re not made from the thinner fabric they have… those get very wrinkled! both brands fit my larger bottom and come in a zillion colors!
