The Off Season

This afternoon I visited Whole Foods Cville in all its new glory. Love that place. I put some crazy things in my cart!

tmp_share (1)

Like popsicles!! It felt so warm that when I walked by they said summertime. What was I thinking!? These were Edy’s Fruity ones and they are petite enough to make a nice snack paired with some almonds or perhaps a taste of whole grain bread from the Great Harvest bread board.

tmp_share

‘Cause that was my next stop. I missed the shop while we were gone!! Sounds like everyone did a fantastic job holding down the fort – and sales for the weekend confirmed that.

tmp_share (2)

Dinner tonight was easy because dear, sweet Karen brought over a tupperware full of her famous chili!

IMG_4881Blog

I was planning to make cornbread on the side and when I opened the fridge I saw she had brought that too!

IMG_4875Blog

Not sure which recipe this was (likely Trader Joe’s from a box which is all of our favorite flavor) but I will ask – this was darn good cornbread!

IMG_4879Blog

Karen’s chili is perfectly seasoned and I realized why when I looked at the recipe page again – she doesn’t dump in lots of chili powder and over season it like I do. The real food does the talking here.

IMG_4876Blog

To sip I had Kool Aid Merlot Honest Tea I picked up at WF!

IMG_4878Blog

Matt and I wrapped up the night with 30 Rock + The Office. Glad shows are back!! It’s the only bad thing about the holiday season.

Popsicles..haven’t had one in ages. I did make a smoothie last week that tastes just like an Orange PushUp and froze that and sort of make-shifted popsicles out of it. But it got cold here again! It’s more like hot chocolate weather than Popsicle weather 🙂

I never got into “The Office” . I think my problem stems from a lack of time mostly…man, you are wrong with popsicle, I saw that and screamed.

I’m all about recipes like that – ones that aren’t too seasoned, so the food can speak for itself.

Can’t believe it’s Popsicle weather by you. As Averie said, it’s hot chocolate weather here too!

I can’t believe it’s popsicle weather in January! I could have used one today. What kills me is the 70* weather and then the next days low is 28*. I mean seriously!?

Why is it always so entertaining, to me, the folks I see at the meat counter at Whole Foods. Never can I bring myself to actually purchase meat products there however I do believe that I sleep better at night knowing that others are attempting to purchase locally sources animal products…do you know the lady and her boy who you captured in front of the Whole Foods bakery counter? It’s always been my experience that there are some pretty attractive clerks at the fish counter…weird, I know I am 🙂

Have you (or Karen) ever tried to spice up the TJ’s brand cornbread? I bought some this weekend, along with a can of diced green chiles (to go with my own chili), but I’m not sure how much to use. Wondering if the whole (small) can will be overpowering…

What did you think of The Office? There have been a couple of good episodes but overall we have been disappointed with the new season. I’ve heard that 30 Rock and Parks & Rec are good but haven’t started watching either. Glad to hear things went well at GH while you were gone. We enjoyed some Asiago Pesto and Honey Whole Wheat here. Our local GH has a full time position open, wish it worked with my schedule, I would love to work there. Actually, I would love to just open up my own GH! If only it were that easy!
