The Best Three Salads In Charlottesville

What’s up friends!? We are making birthday cards for Grammie in our PJs – tomorrow is her birthday!

Foodblog-192825 this !

Breakfast today was consumed in a rush on the way to preschool – Irish Soda Bread toast with almond butter and oranges. Plus coffee, per usual!

Foodblog-6342

Karen and I ran some errands together during preschool. And then we met Matt for lunch at Mariebette! Karen’s special request since leaving Cville.

Foodblog-6344

I’ve been dreaming about their kale salad for ages.

The Best Lunch Salads In Charlottesville

1) Mariebette’s Kale Salad. It’s huge and filling and the dressing + pecans + veggies in little strips hits the spot. Especially with a croissant on the side!

Foodblog-6348

2) Eppie’s Santa Monica Salad. Have you heard the rumor that Eppie’s is closing? I will die. Please tell me it’s not true. It’s one of my very favorites for lunch – the veg plate or the Santa Monica with cornbread! The Santa Monica has fresh corn, dates, goat cheese, tomatoes, champagne vinaigrette and a side of cornbread or pumpkin bread. Optional chicken! It’s just sooooo good!

Foodblog-4816

3) Tea Bazaar’s Salmon House Salad. Smoked salmon over greens and veggies with candied nuts and a side of herby toasted pita bread. Delicious!

At Mariebette owner Jason brought us this awesome taster – Edmondson cheese + serrano

Foodblog-6345

And Matt shared his smoked salmon + cucumber toast in exchange for 1/3 of my salad. YUM!

Foodblog-6351

We played with our amazing neighbors this afternoon and sipped some vino. Our dining room table is here!!!!!!!!!!!! More deets to come.

Foodblog-6354

Leftovers for dinner. KK went out and Matt and I enjoyed soup and wine.

Foodblog-6355

I’m hoping to sneak in a bubble bath and some reading after putting M in bed. Matt went out to a concert with friends!

When you go out and really dig a dish, do you ever try to recreate it at home, and how does that go? Most of my attmepts have not faired well, although I ha’ve had a few breakthroughs!

It’s funny you mention a bubble bath – ever since I had my son 14 weeks ago, I now binge read your blog every few days in the bath rather than at a computer every morning like when I worked. Needless to say, I think I read too close to bedtime last night. I had a dream my husband and I visited you in Charlottesville. In the dream I guess you had a book coming out and you were doing a photoshoot while we were there. And President Obama was supposed to be coming to your house later, but I had two glasses of champagne and got tired and had to go to sleep before he got there. It was a strange and funny dream for sure!

I totally agree about the Santa Monica salad! I haven’t tried the Mariebette kale salad or salmon salad from the Tea Bazaar yet…those will have to be next on my list. Another fav: the beet salad from Citizen!

This post makes me miss Charlottesville and homesick for VA! We moved to Charlotte in the fall and LOVE IT, but there’s nothing like VA. 🙂

The salads look so yummy. There is a beet and arugula salad with goat cheese, pecans and a tangerine vinaigrette that I am addicted to. Also an orzo, goat cheese and pecan that is super yummy. I can never perfectly replicate them at home.
I am so fascinated by how quickly it seems you bought a new home, moved and settled in. I am still unpacking boxes for months when we have moved. Will you share more about your move and how quickly you got settled in. Also house pictures in future blogs? I love house pics.

ALL of those salads look amazing, I would have such a hard time choosing the favorite! That cornbread might be the deciding factor though 😉

I just decided to make a trip to Cville this weekend because we are getting way to much snow here in philly and I’ve never been! Any hiking recommendations? Brunch or dinner suggestions for first timers?

Hike Old Rag if you have all day, Humpback if you want something short and Monticello Trail if you need something closeby.

Brunch – go to Brookville and get the MBF Pancake!!!

Dinner – Commonwealth, Brookville, Whiskey Jar, Zocalo, Citizen, Bang!, C&O, Hamiltons – all good!
