Test Prep

I mentally and physically prepared for my double tests with some exercise and a filling meal.

It was another easy day to get out of bed. Probably because I got in bed on time last night! I was excited to go to the gym having missed sweaty exercise yesterday. While there I did 40 minutes on the ET followed by a cool down on the squirrelliptical and 7 fast but effective minutes of upper body weight lifting.

I knew oatmeal would be on the menu this morning – with my new dried fruit incorporated!

I took a few different pieces of each and a few nuts. I stirred in the fruit and saved the nuts:

IMG_4592 (1024x768)

I actually didn’t like the dried fruit that much. Despite all the sugar coating, it was quite sour. I don’t think things in oatmeal should be sour!

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats/9 grain mix, 1/2 cup water, 1/3 cup soy milk, half banana, pinch salt
  • A few tbsp dried fruit
  • 1 tbsp chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • Coconut sprinkle
  • Spoonful MaraNatha AB

Plus some happy Spring Blend

Happy Birthday to The Hungry Yogini!!

And she’s off…

It’s amazing how fast you get responses, isn’t it?

Do you use full fat cottage cheese in your oats? Just curious…I gotta try it sometime!

Hello! The dried fruit from Costco does have a bit of “zing” to it. One of them (mango or papaya) has a lime juice coating, so it’s really sour. Actually, those are my favorite! Anyway, if you avoid those bits, your oatmeal should be fine!

    Good luck on the exams!

Frustratingt that the dried fruit wasn’t what you were hoping for in the oats. Maybe a little TOO sugary. It probably would do much better in trail mix!

Good luck on the tests! We all know how hard you’ve been studying, so I’m sure you’ll do great!

I was SO bummed to find that this almond butter (I dont usually buy maranatha) has added oil and sugar! UGH! It was at a local grocery store and WAY cheaper than the other brand (which I have to drive 40 mins to buy!) On the good side, though, it is a nice mix with peanut butter.

Good luck on your tests. I’m sure you’ll be focused and do well.

I’m with ya on the “things in oatmeal shouldn’t be sour” UNLESS it’s frozen fruit!! I love my oatmeal with frozen blueberries and pineapples because they tend to melt and bleed all over the oats so it cools the hotness down. It REALLY is delicious!

Perhaps the almond butta and the candied fruit flavors clash? But nonetheless, you have the tastiest looking breakie EVER!

OH!!! By the way, I TOTALLY tried almond butter in oats thanks to YOU as my original inspiration. Thank you kath, I love it!!!

    Kaley ,
    I used Breakstone’s low-fat cottage cheese, but I love Cabot’s fat-free as well.

    Jennifer ,
    Great perspective!

    Amanda in Pittsburgh,
I don’t know!! I guess I am happy with where life is headed. I was not very cheerful when I worked fulltime. Even the bad parts of being in school are for a “good cause”, you know?

    Hannah ,
It was something sour – I don’t know which one. Sounds like the lime piece that Nadine mentioned.

    Rhodeygirl,
15 mos is crazy! You guys know so much about me!
