Tardy Craving

IMG_2316Blog

All night long the little overnight oats fairies were hard at work!

IMG_2318Blog

Making me this gorgeous bowl of breakfast!

IMG_2330Blog

A small climate problem: I got a big craving for sticky, doughy overnight oats when it was 75 degrees outside. It is now 23 degrees. And it was WAY too cold for this breakfast! I had to have an extra cup of coffee just to warm up! Note to self: when it’s 100 degrees outside and you are too stubborn for air conditioning, remember this day.

overnightoats222Blog

The Mix

Last Night
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup strained yogurt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Pinch salt
  • Half banana
  • 3 beautiful Florida strawberries
  • 1 tbsp dried cherries
~Overnight in fridge~

This morning
  • Nature’s Path Hemp Plus granola ( <—- If a granola bandit was tying back my arms and making me choose a favorite granola of all time, this would be it!)
  • Honey Crunch PB

IMG_2325Blog

IMG_2320Blog

It may have been frigid, but it was 100% delicious!

IMG_2321Blog

After a month of heckling, we JUST got the password to design our Great Harvest Cville website! I’ll be spending my entire day trying to get it up and running, breaking only for a conference call and a run!

Haha I had overnight oats this morning too – a bit too cold for them here as well, but there’s definitely something to be said for waking up to a breakfast that makes itself 🙂

Good luck with the website! At first glance I thought your oats were topped with gummi bears (like a late Halloween craving?!?!) but berries actually sound tastier. Gummi bear oats might be pretty exciting though 🙂

I make overnight oats at least 3X a week during the work week…but since I just soak with almond milk, I still heat it up in the morning in the microwave for 90 seconds before topping with granola =) It’s the best of both worlds for me!!

I’ve always wanted to try overnight oats..but the thought of cold oats really turns me off.. Is there a reason you didn’t reheat them on the stove or in the microwave? Does this affect the oats somehow? I can’t imagine it’d ruin them, but maybe it does, considering I’ve never heard of anyone reheating their ON oats!

Those oats look delicious, but I must echo what everyone else is saying: HOW in the world is your fridge so clean/empty?!?

Don’t forget to circulate the blood in your legs… designing is fun but can swallow you whole if you don’t watch out 🙂

    Hi Kath!
I’ve been a lurker on your blog for a while now, and this is the first comment I’m posting.
I was browsing through the NY Times today, and saw an article Mark Bittman wrote on oatmeal; I think it’s only appropriate that my first comment be on oatmeal (considering how much you love & eat it! It’s my everyday breakfast at college too :D) I think this might pique your interest. I hope you enjoy!

I really want to try that granola, but since it’s made in a factory that also processes nuts, I’m not sure if I should take the risk. 😛

I <3 overnight oats. I just <3 oats in general, though… so glad they're so versatile!

I always heat up my overnight oats! A minute in the microwave and they’re perfect for summer. A minute and a half and they’re perfect for winter. Whole Foods had an overnight oats recipe in their store years back and that’s when I learned about them.

I eat hot oatmeal in the summer time and cold cereal in the winter…I understand your predicament 🙂

Do you leave yours uncovered overnight? I was thinking about that….I cover mine in Tupperware and take it to the gym sometimes.
