Tales Of Tahini

I cannot believe that I don’t have class tomorrow! I keep thinking about Wednesday as tomorrow and am so relieved when I remember I have a day to recoup and catch-up. I’ve already got a ton of work to do!

My lunch held me over SO well today – I was just getting hungry when the husband reminded me that if we didn’t make dinner at 7 he was going to have to go to bed without, so we quickly jumped up to make it.

On the menu: Jenna’s Spicy Tahini Sauce Stir-Fry

IMG_0390

The sauce was amazing! I love tahini, and it was def. the highlight of the recipe. Since she warned her recipe makes a TON of sauce and there are just two of us, we reduced the recipe by a lot. I eyeballed most of the ingredients but here’s my approximation for two people:

  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 2 tbsp tamari
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 1.5 tbsp sesame oil (sadly, we didn’t have chili oil so I used a little more of this)

For the rest of the meal we cooked 2 servings of whole wheat spagetti and tossed that with sauteed bean sprouts, snow peas, frozen bell peppers, and 2 cloves of garlic (I didn’t want to put raw garlic in the sauce or I’d be tasting it for days). All topped with some microwave-toasted sesame seeds! We left off any meat components out of laziness/cost, but this would have been great with tofu, shrimp or chicken.

IMG_0392

I should have listened to Jenna and made more sauce – I am sad it’s gone!

In addition to chopsticks, I had green tea

 this !

Nerd Alert!

Some of you wonder how I keep track of all of my life’s tasks. I couldn’t do it without Todoist! It’s this great to-do list manager that lets you have different categories, color code, create recurring events, etc. I have a category for real “To-Do’s”, one for groceries we need, one for each course, and one for all of my assignments. Here’s my upcoming week, which compared to weeks in the past, is quite short at the moment!

Week

Here’s my Upcoming Assignments folder, where I can easily see everything I have to turn in for the semester (with the exception of tiny things and tests) in order –

ToDo

Vote For Maple Bacon!

Tina @ CarrotsnCake recently entered a Maple Bacon pizza recipe into the Boboli Great American Football City Tour Recipe Contest, and it was chosen as 1 of 4 SEMI-FINALISTS!!! GO TINA!!!

Spark!

Check out a KERF shout out on the Sparkpeople blog!

I’m off to finish up the evening and get in bed early since last night’s sleep was a disaster. My plan for Tuesdays + Thursday is yoga + oats, followed by studying while I digest, followed by a late-morning workout. Guess I need to start the day at 6am instead of the recent 8am mornings now that I have school work to complete!

I’m adding the sauce to the list of recipes to try. I remember when Jenna posted it and now I’ve got two recommendations to try it and no excuses!

Love the organization, you aren’t a nerd. My life would be chaos without lists!

Thanks for the link to todoist.com – that is AWESOME! I was just trying to organize myself in google calendar but I might switch to that…I also keep a paper calendar in my purse at all times (i tried to get rid of it this year but I just can’t do it! I like to always have my calendar at my fingertips and my cell phone does not have internet capabilities)

goodluck w/ y our classes, theyt seem so interesting and challenging – the one about chron’s seemed to intrigue me – please share when you complete that assignment – my father has a mild case of chrons and is on meds to control it.

    mel. h–

Not to answer for Kath, but I’ve been interested in this too as I love power/flow yoga & use it as my daily workout often, and I think in Kath’s case, based on her recent posts on the topic, she uses it as a supplement to her workout because of the type of yoga that she is doing.

The yoga routines she has been doing have been more of the stretching/get-to-know-the-poses type & not the primarily-power-yoga type where you’re sweating all over the mat (sorry for the visual!).

Anyway, again, not to presume that would be Kath’s answer, but just the insight I’ve interpreted based on her posts!

    Carol ,
I believe they are from World Market, eons ago!

    mel h,
Amy is right that the kind of yoga I’m doing isn’t all that rigorous (I love it when you all answer questions for me 🙂 ). Really, it’s more of a time thing. If I were doing 60-90 minutes of Bikram/Power yoga, I probably wouldn’t also do cardio/weight lifting, but since I’ve been sticking to 20-30 minutes of more gentle styles, they’re not long enough for me to want to consider it my only exercise for the day (unless it’s a rest day, of course).

    sarah ,
I use BOTH Todoist and G. Calendar. I think each has its own function. I dont’ think I could rely on just one or the other.

    emmy ,
I kind of wish I had leftovers now! I’ve just never been a fan of having the same meal two days in a row. There are SO many recipes and foods I want to eat, that I feel like it’s a waste of a meal to repeat. That said, when I do have leftovers of a really good meal I always appreciate them so maybe I just need to force them on myself more!

    haya ,
    Absolutely.

Holy cow, that stir fry looks amazing!

And thanks, by the way, for inspiration! I made my first “fancy oatmeal” this morning and it was wonderful. I bought loads of toppings this morning and have enough to have a different bowl of oats every day for about a month! I found some Kashi granolas and a Post cereal for $1 a box and grabbed those for add-ins, too. My head swims with the possibilities.

    thanks again!

I’ve made that sauce, but I changed it a bit because I wanted less oil. I also used the frozen stir-fry veggies. Loved it.

I used Annie Chun’s soba noodles, which I think you would like.
