Sweet Tart

Virginia can’t decide if today is supposed to be rainy or sunny – we’re getting a mix of both! [Although now that I think about it, we haven’t had much rain at ALL this summer! Good for biking!]

IMG_5598-2Blog

I made a bowl of leftovers for lunch. One of those classic blogger meals that doesn’t look as good as it tasted

IMG_5595-2BlogIMG_5594-2Blog

Greens, sautéed tofu + zucchini, leftover crockpot stew + rice, and cantaloupe

IMG_5593-2BlogIMG_5589-2Blog

30 minutes later, my stomach still felt a little hungry. What is with my stomach? This meal should have totally satisfied me, as it has all the food groups and a good amount of volume. I’ve had a big appetite my whole life!

So I broke into a few samples by Hail Merry possibly making it into an OpenSky deal. I figured I could use a little something rich to sit heavy in there.

IMG_5601-2Blog

These are little tarts – like big peanut butter cups but with a pie-crust bottom – made with real food

Lemon is not my favorite flavor (I’m usually a chocoholic) but this was incredible lemon + coconut. (The top kind of smeared off, but it tasted great. I noted that 1 serving was 1/3 of the tart, so that’s what I had even though I could have eaten the whole thing easy!

IMG_5600-2Blog

I’m gearing up to head to the bakery. The question is…do I drive or bike?

Those look so tasty! And the rain can’t decide whether it’s staying or going here either – the sun is out right now but there was just thunder and rain coming down about 10 minutes ago!

I say bike! Extra exercise and a little rain won’t hurt. 🙂

Bike or Drive: Depends on how much time you have or what your doing after? Maybe 😉

The salad looks good to me. Being hungry is “normal”. Yes, it included the 4 food groups and vegetables are filling but still low in calories.

Also I totally go through phases like that too – where meals that would normally (and should) fill me up just don’t. Just gotta go with it and know eventually you’ll be back to normal!

Some days are just crazy hunger days! Sometimes I’m shocked by what I can eat because I’m genuinely hungry and still be hungry. Those tarts look fantastic. I too love chocolate more than anything and it takes a really good review to get me to try something fruity.

To the point that I kid you not, until I really looked at it, I thought the first picture in this post was an artsy/artistical display of brownies.

Til I realized it was concrete & sidewalk.

I hate when a meal that should fill you up just doesn’t, and you’re left wondering why. I can never tell if it’s all in my head or if I am actually still hungry after a big meal like that. Looks like the treat worked its magic though 🙂

I’m known for my large appetite as well. I think it has something to do with the fact that different foods are digested differently. So while a calorie is a calorie, that’s not 100% true. For example, a smaller portion of proteins from plants are absorbed vs. the larger amount of meat proteins that are absorbed. And differing levels of energy are needed to digest and absorb different foods. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons that healthier eaters seem to need to eat a little more vs. people who eat highly processed, “pre-digested” food?

Anyways. I like to say that. As a very long reason for my large appetite. 😉

Hope the weather clears up for you!!!

I really think it depends on a woman’s time of the month. There are just some days when I need more energy and food.

I’d drive. Lots of showers/storms in VA today.

It’s a salad. Of course you’d be hungry 30 minutes later. I always think it’s interesting that bloggers are so mystified that “Hugh mass” salads don’t satisfy for more than an hour. It’s a bowl of veggies. Where’s the mystery?

I find tofu really hefty – I had maybe 1/5 of a block with my supper tonight and it definitely is doing its job of keeping me full! I find as long as a salad has tofu, nuts, beans, and/or dried fruit, it will generally satisfy my hunger – but some days are just HUNGRY days!

I LOVE lemon desserts!! I think I inherited the craving from my wonderful grandfather. My mom would always make him a lemon meringue pie for his birthday, and now I feel that the tradition will likely continue with me. 🙂 Chocolate is devine, but as you said, lemon is the perfect balance between sweet and tart. Yum yum.

Mmmm as bloggers, I think there’s something to be said for “pretty food tastes better.” (Probably just because extra effort was consciously put forth to make it visually appealing!)

That said, I don’t think the converse is true. Non-pretty food can be 100% delicious 🙂
