Sunken Treasures

IMG_3266Blog

It’s been a handful of days since I made that froth Clem-sicle smoothie for a snack and I haven’t stopped thinking about it!! Round II this AM:

IMG_3274Blog

It’s so frothy and creamy and made from only 3 ingredients, 4 if you count ice:

  1. 1 cup of milk (I used 2%)
  2. 1/2 banana
  3. 1 clementine
  4. 5 ice cubes

Vita-mix blend!

I topped it with Cville Cluster granola (where all the heft enters this breakfast!) and the other half of the banana – sliced and sunken deep down in the bowl. I LOVE dipping my spoon in the liquid and finding a nugget of granola or a slice of banana like sunken treasure on the bottom!

IMG_3270Blog

IMG_3265Blog

I was too excited to eat me 30 second smoothie that I didn’t make any tea to go with it.

So I went back later and had a cup of Cookie Mint tea with frothed egg nog. YES – you can froth egg nog!!

(In other news, I already burned through two AA batteries with my frother in 2 months! I just put fresh batteries in and that thing is like an engine now!)

IMG_3284Blog

Today the Great Harvest whirlwind begins. I’m on the schedule today through Christmas Eve and am ready to get my hands in some dough!

i’ve switched to 2% milk recently and cannot believe the difference in creaminess! having drank nonfat milk (or almond) for so long, my latte tasted like whipped cream this morning.

I think nonfat milk has a funky sour taste. 1% is my preference but I’m happy to have 2% too 🙂

We always drank 2% when I was a kid & at some point I switched to skim. I decided skim milk is worthless…needs a little fat! I don’t think it tastes sour, just that it tastes like nothing…so I’m back to 2% 🙂

I agree. Skim doesn’t feel “real”. The higher-fat versions seem like real food.

I don’t really drink milk, but love cheese, yogurt, and ice cream and generally avoid low fat dairy. It’s unnatural and weird, especially cheese!

Skim milk smells funny to me. P-U. I’m addicted to vanilla soy milk. It makes everything taste better. I recently made mashed potatoes with it. Yum-o! Course, I love sweet flavors.

I’ve never had success with making a citrus-flavored smoothie (I’ve only tried with oranges)- with the exception of using Jay Robb’s dreamsicle-flavored egg white protein powder. Maybe if I a vitamix for Christmas, my luck will change…

I can only imagine how busy you are going to be at the bakery these next few days…good thing you fuel up with a well balanced breakfast. My nickname is ‘whirlwind Susan’. I will be busy as a bee these next few days baking allergen free cookies, a yule log and my son’s Christmas dinner. Let the countdown begin! lol

Frothed egg nog is genius! I might try that out since I bet it makes it a lot lighter tasting than the thick consistency that usually gets old in abotu 5 minutes for me.

Kath, is that smoothie thick and spoonable?
Also, I opened a big can of lentils. The remaining I placed in a tupperware just as they were from out of the can and in the fridge. Is that proper storage and how long will they keep? Im hoping at least a week; it was a big can.

batteries are free at Staples this week and next. you can get two 16 packs of AA or AAA. You pay for price and then get the money back in rewards money. You need a rewards card which is easy. I use the rewards for toner that I would buy there anyway.

I used to use the kind of frother you are talking about, but went through too many batteries. I bought an electric one that is called “Nespresso” – money well spent. No more running out of batteries and the foam is REALLY great and warm too! I think the battery kind is good for when you must travel somewhere, but the Nespresso is the way to go…

Love all your postings and seeing the bakery products – they look wonderful and wish there was a bakery like that around here!
