Sundy Deenir

Study snack!! I got hungry around 5:30 and needed something small to tide me until dinner. This was a mix of almonds , peanuts , H2H and roasted garbanzos . And single cracker!

DSC03843

Karen came over for a classic Sund’y Dinner tonight, which is always a small celebration. So I had a mocktail (tonic, lime, cherry). No wine tonight 🙁

DSC03846

She was having a craving for Tomato and Mozzarella Salad and brought over some fancy mozzarella cheese and olive oil along with some fresh tomatoes and basil from our garden. I officially like tomatoes raw ! (Aren’t you proud Dad!)

DSC03848

To go with the salad, we did a simple roasted whole chicken (which we had frozen and thawed out over the weekend). Nothing special other than salt and pepper. I had about half a breast without skin (‘cept for that piece of fat on top, which I removed)

DSC03849

Lastly, we had some really tasty corn on the cob !

And again, I forgot my roll !!! We had put them in the oven and almost forgot!

Off to cram in more Micro before I hit the sack. I made a REALLY fun lunch for tomorrow and I’m already excited 8)

fresh tomatoes are really good! even raw. soooo much better than the disgusting trucked in tomatoes from god knows where that are that weird pink colour and are pretty mealy. basil and mozzarella are the best accompaniments. i’ve been wanting to try my hand at making mozzarella myself, but i’ve been too busy dealing with all the summer produce. maybe that will be a late fall/winter project. too bad the tomatoes will be all gone by then! i guess there will be pizzas to be had with all the tomato sauce i’ve made 😉 i think this may be the first year i am actually looking forward to winter (our winters are long and cold) just because of all the tasty local things i’ve put away in the freezer and canned in the pantry.

I never liked tomatoes as a kid until I had a real, homegrown, fresh tomato one summer. Totally diferent than what you get in most restaurants. Good luck with the studying!

Mmm, I love caprese salad! Is it sad that I was almost equally excited to see the genetic codes of the central dogma behind your snack? I may do food science now but in another life i was a biochemist and will always be a nerd!

I am very glad you’ve grown to love fresh tomatoes. Soon you’ll be eating them sliced with nothing on them. Delicious! Hope you enjoyed your busy weekend.

My dad used to sprinkle brown sugar on sliced tomatoes and said I used to eat them like that. I can’t remember it though – I don’t like tomato seeds, but guess what my favorite soup is – TOMATO!

    Weird!

I think the reason that a lot of people don’t like tomatoes is because of the crap that grocery stores try to pass off as tomatoes! Give me fresh heirlooms any day 🙂

… Yes, very proud. Next step is to enjoy tomato sandwiches: white bread, mayo, thick single slice of huge tomato, salt, oregano, garlic powder. Yum!

So when will you learn to love onions? If I can enjoy yellow squash, asparagus and especially green bell peppers now when I despised all of these when a child, then you can surely learn to enjoy onions. Start with Vidalia or Walla Walla sweet onions that many enjoy similarly to my tomato sandwich above.

I don’t like tomatoes raw, but want to since they always look so good! I eat margherita pizza as sort of my way of learning to acquire a taste for raw tomatoes, since the tomatoes are slightly cooked, but still taste raw.

Oh, and if you haven’t tried onions cooked yet, give caramelized onions a try. It tastes way different than eating raw onion.

    Biz319 ,
Brown sugar is good on ANYTHING!!

    Dad ,
Even more than the taste, it’s the fact that onions linger for hours (days!) in my palate. I don’t want to taste any food that long – even cake! If you can come up with a way to prevent the linger, I might try them.

    madison (follow my weigh),
I don’t like any kind of them 🙁
