Summer’s Last Hurrah–Part II

Good morning!

Foodblog-51-5 this !

This place is just so beautiful. We are lucky to be able to be here! We have also been very lucky with the weather. It has been flawless!

Foodblog-44

On Wednesday we woke up and had breakfast first thing. Great Harvest Pecan Swirl, eggs and lots of watermelon.

Foodblog-14

Then we went for a family walk down by the beach.

Foodblog-50

We spent our mid-morning time by the pool to keep things simple. M loves to jump off the side in the big pool and made friends in the toddler pool.

Foodblog-11-2

Foodblog-48-3

So relaxed.

Foodblog-22

We came back inside for a break from the sun and a quick lunch. I made a tuna salad with red pepper, tomato, capers and pickle, plus mayo and mustard. Served with wheat thins (best crackers!) and two drinks: a little beer and sparkling water.

Foodblog-09-2

We wound down before naptime with some stories

Foodblog-25-4

I did a little work (this time with no wine) and read some more of my book.

Then we all headed out for a night on the town!

Foodblog-13

We drove to the Harbor where there was a free wine tasting

Foodblog-25-3

The nice gentleman pouring gave us pretty heavy-handed pours

Foodblog-26-3

M was super happy with the truck set Grammie brought for him!

Foodblog-34

Foodblog-50-2

Lookin’ like his dada!

Foodblog-175111

We attempted to go to one restaurant in the harbor and had a complete meltdown. A change of plans took us back to the Peli for more pizza and salad. We were thankful for a casual atmosphere.

Foodblog-51-3

I had another Blue Moon and this delicious Asian arugula salad.

Foodblog-51

And we all shared a margherita pizza with green peppers

Foodblog-51-2

Family ice cream time concluded the night! And a little So You Think You Can Dance watching. I just bought tickets for the tour in Richmond and am so excited!!

Foodblog-57-3

Thursday morning I went for a run first thing. This time it was low tide, so I had the whole beach to myself. I ran for about 30 minutes – perfect start to the day. It’s a real struggle for me to run first thing in the morning these days. One because I don’t have a babysitter and Mazen wants to eat and play rather than get in a stroller, but two because my body just feels more tired and stiff than it used to. I’m glad to have been able to get in a few morning runs though. It is the best time of day to go!

Foodblog-41

Upon my return, I made a yogurt bowl with blueberries and some swirl bread “croutons”

Foodblog-51-4

We spent our final morning at the beach, where the tide was now very far in and kept us smushed up on the dunes

Foodblog-29

We had loads of fun though, including a scary time when Mazen’s dinosaur decided to go surfing!

Foodblog-48-4

Foodblog-49-3

We paid a short visit to the pool where mom and I split a pre-lunch pina colada! Not sure they added more than a dash of rum – we didn’t taste or feel a thing!

Foodblog-31-2

Back at the house we made salads out of the last of our provisions. Greens, tomato, dressing, blue cheese and chips on top!

Foodblog-43

And tomato + pimento cheese melts on the side.

Foodblog-49-2

During naptime I went to the island shops and browsed around. First time on the golf cart all alone!

Foodblog-04

I came home with a new hat and these roll-on bracelets. They match my new Fitbit strap : ) An Instagram reader says they are Lily and Laura bracelets!

Foodblog-00

Per usual, we dressed up to go out. Tonight there was an art reception across the island.

Foodblog-45

Foodblog-14-2

M loved this pig and gave him a kiss. We had wine and cheese and crackers. M loved the crackers and some sparkling water that he called “Bubbles!”

Foodblog-14-3

Foodblog-33 Foodblog-39-4

We had intended to cook in one night this week, but the seafood at the market is so expensive that it almost made more sense to eat out. Thus, we found ourselves at the BHI Club again. It was a great dinner… especially when dinosaur cups were involved!

Foodblog-03

I had another glass of that scrumptious Old Vine Zin

Foodblog-03-2

We had the fondue for an appetizer – brie with mushrooms and pesto toast!

Foodblog-17-2

Foodblog-18-2

And I ended the meal with the Jamaican Jerk Grouper with sweet potato hash and amazing avocado fries!

Foodblog-41-2

We finished the trip with more ice cream at the house. We are sad to say goodbye to this beautiful island!

I come for the food and the nutrition. I come for the house decorating. But when I see Mazen? I come for the fashion. Is it just me? LOL

Have you gone to see the SYTYCD live show before? They’re coming to my city and I was wondering how the shows are/if it’s worth going to see?

I love that Apothic Red from your wine tasting. Looks like you had a great time!

My little sisters are into those bracelets, they told me that women in India make them and boutiques sell them to raise money for them. Who knows if it is true, but they are so cute!

Thanks for a great recap kath! Curious do you budget to go away so much with a toddler? We are trying to go away this summer but it’s so expensive! Plus we have two kids! It seems a small getaway is easy a few hundred dollars. Curious to know your thoughts!

I’m so glad you’re honest with your readers in saying Mazen had a meltdown, so many times i think we assume that things are as perfect as your pictures look 🙂 MY brother in laws favorite wine is apothic, apparently they do a special Christmas reserve too, so be on the look for it if you liked it. Also you should check out inch bug labels to put Mazen’s name on his cup, they make these cool band things that last forever and fit every cup and snack trap you have, plus you can throw them in the dishwasher or change them if need be.
