Strawberry Fields

I picked up some organic strawberries yesterday and at first bite they tasted better than any strawberries ever have! Like strawberry flavor magnified.

IMG_6340Blog

The flavor of fruit + berries seems to be more potent than ever, in a really, really good way. Berries are something that I’d normally buy only on occasion this time of year due to the higher price, but they’re so good for me and for my mouth, that they’re worth the cost.

I took a few swigs of this guy before breakfast too. It was so good! Kind of like melted sorbet. High in [natural] sugar, so I wouldn’t down a whole bottle in one sitting (unless it was the base of the meal and combined with fat + protein) but great to have shots of when I wake up parched. There are beets + tomatoes involved too – veg plus!

Breakfast was deliciously doughy overnight oats

IMG_6338Blog

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Blueberries, strawberries, banana
  • Pinch salt, pinch cinnamon
  • Almond butter

Plus tea! Still loving the Adagio Peach Oolong.

I’m headed to the bakery for a meeting, and then I might head down to Hillsborough early – we’re expecting snow tomorrow and of course it’s the one day I’m traveling!!

You are so right about how good berries are early in the season. I was shocked at the deliciousness of my strawberries this week. Must be thanks to the unseasonably warm weather?

    Have a great weekend!

I tend to only buy berries in the summer for price reasons, as well. I don’t usually buy organic berries either because we are on a budget. Winter oats usually get frozen berries. My favorite is the very cherry blend from Trader Joe’s… cherries are the best!

Your breakfast today looks so good that I want to jump through my screen and eat it! I was going to have something similar, but after making Kevin eggs, I decided on a veggie omelet. It was good, but didn’t satisfy my craving for a thirst quenching breakfast. Oh well, lesson learned to listen to my gut next time! Have a WONDERFUL Saturday. 🙂

I love fresh berries. I was so excited when there were blackberries 2/$3 the other day. I HAD to get them. And they taste pretty darn good too! 🙂

Can you imagine if BERF disliked oatmeal and made you nauseous? The horror! Good thing that’s not the case. I’m getting impatient waiting for summer berries.

I loved strawberries when I was pregnant too. One day at work there was a fruit tray sitting on a table and I sat there and ate every single strawberry off of it – I just couldn’t stop :)!

Yum! I can’t pretend like the berries we get here in England are any good now, but hopefully once summer rolls around 🙂

I had a quick nutrition question for you. Because of diabetes in my family, my doctor advised me to check out the Insulin-Resistance Diet in order to ward off possible future problems. It mainly involves limiting carbs to 30grams within a two hour period and always pairing that with at least 15grams of protein. I was wondering what your opinion as a nutriotionist was on it? Cheers!

      Hi Katie,
This sounds wise to me. 30 grams is 2 “servings” of carbs, and I think you’d find it to be pretty do-able. And I almost always try to eat protein and fat with carbs at meals, so that’s also probably more natural than you think. Focus on real food and watch the sweet just a bit – that’s the hardest part.
