Still Playing

Now this is one really green smoothie!

IMG_6248Blog

I had to go back for seconds today! Smoothies are really great when you wake up feeling like you drank a bottle of wine the night before.

IMG_6253Blog

In the Vita-mix:

  • 1/2 giant banana
  • ~1/4 cup raw oats
  • ~3/4 cup milk
  • ~1/4 cup greek yogurt
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1 giant overflowing handful spinach

Sunken in the green:

  • Ellwood Thompson granola
  • Shredded wheats
  • WF PB

IMG_6246Blog

Life’s a peach tea!

IMG_6250Blog

Question of the day: How many times will Kath listen to this song?

What a pretty spring green salad on a gray day! My green smoothie this morning was red from beets, but it was loaded with spinach, pineapple, and ginger too. I swear they give me coffee-like energy.

That smoothie looks almost seafoam green! And oh no that you’re not feeling well! Haha I know it’s not because you drank a bottle of wine, either! Hope you feel better!

That reminds me of when I was a kid, and we would get a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. I don’t like mint ice cream, but I did like those shakes. Since we are vegan, my 9 year daughter only knows what McDonald’s is by commercial, we have not been to a fast food restaurant since she was about two, I will have to make a vegan Shamrock Style Shake. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Hi Kath!
I finally broke down and bought a (huge) bag of kale – which my bf likes to call kelp…
Would you ever put that in a smoothie? I tried kale chips and didn’t love them so I’m looking for other options before it goes bad, besides cooking it into a regular dish (i don’t have much time since its tax season for cooking) – so I thought for a quick smoothie in the morning but I wanted to get another opinion first.
    Thanks!

@shannon – I LOVE to put a couple of kale leaves in my smoothies. It’s so good for you that I try to sneak kale into a few dishes every week and smoothies are so easy. Lately, I’ve been doing ‘tropical’ smoothies with pineapple, mango, and coconut milk and the kale goes well in those, but I’ll also add it to berry banana and other smoothies. To me, it adds a green taste, but not an overpowering kale taste. It’s also easy to sneak kale into soups. Just chop it up really small and make sure it cooks for a while and you won’t even know it’s there!

I am loving your smoothies!! I love making them, but i hate making doing it in my Cuisinart blender. Someday the Vitamix will be mine! I am 25 weeks prego and I compared my whole first trimester to one big hang over. Its great to hear someone else say that too!! All the bad feeling, none of the fun from the night before. At about week 12 you’ll have a total body change and start to feel great again. That’s where I am now, but i know in the next few weeks big changes to come. Best of luck, congrats and keep eating every 2 hours!!
