So You Think You Can Eat

I’m hooked on another show!!!

And why-oh-why do I always get hooked on shows in their 4th? 6th? 7th? seasons!? Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, The Office, 30 Rock – I always catch on late!

So You Think You Can Dance is totally awesome (and how I spent my afternoon!) As a former dancer, I was just in awe of what those guys/gals can do.

I just have one comment: I cannot believe how many tears are shed!!

I was smiling all day at work today because I had my workout under my belt and knew I’d have plenty of time to chill this afternoon.

And chill I did, with a mocktail! Raspberry seltzer from EarthFare with my usual splash of POM.

IMG_5085 (640x427)

After some emailing, checking the mail, packing my lunch, blogging my lunch, cleaning up and R&R, Matt and I made one of the best dinners we’ve had in a while.

IMG_5089 (640x427)

What’s up dog!?

IMG_5094 (640x427)

Applegate Farms organic chicken sausage in a Great Harvest Matt-made bun. It was absolutely divine!!

IMG_5100 (640x427)

Dandelion greens! They are bitter, but like the dancers on SYTYCD, there’s just something about them that pulls you in!! We sautéed them with olive oil, a splash of water when it had been absorbed, a squeeze of lemon and a handful of baby spinach (for more bulk). It was interesting to compare the spinach + dandelion.

Spinach = slimy, almost fishy

Dandelion = bitter, chewy, hearty

IMG_5086 (640x427)

Topped with a little parmesan

IMG_5096 (640x427)

Sweet potato fries!! Baked at 400* for 35 minutes after tossing in EVOO and Garlic Gold.

Two Things

1) We’re all sold out of the GREEN Golden Rabbit bowls – but there are still some of BLUE+BLUE duos left 🙂 Coupon is still: GoldenOats

2) I have been royally informed by the Biscoff kings that be that there is a Biscoff CAFE opening on Pier 39 in San Francisco on June 30 followed by a grand opening celebration on Thursday, July 8, 2010!!!

image001

The Details:

Called the Biscoff Coffee Corner, the store offers a free Biscoff cookie with every coffee purchase – enabling consumers to enjoy Biscoff cookies the “European way” alongside a cup of coffee.

Biscoff cookies first shot to fame in the U.S. when different airlines began serving them on flights in the 1980s.  The caramelized biscuits quickly developed a fan base, with many customers asking how they could purchase the highly addictive treats directly.   Today, Lotus Bakeries North America has sales of $25 million. The company opened its own U.S. headquarters, based in San Francisco, in July of 2009. The name Biscoff is a derivative of “bis”cuit and “coff”ee, reflective of how the cookies are best enjoyed.

Lotus Bakeries and Simco Restaurants will host an official grand opening celebration of the Biscoff Coffee Corner on July 8.   On that day, 100 percent of the Biscoff cookie sales will be donated to the Marine Mammal Center.  The Center helps to maintain a healthy sea lion community at PIER 39 and educates the public about the connections we all share with marine mammals and the oceans.  Beginning July 9, one percent of the store’s daily Biscoff cookie sales will also be given to The Marine Mammal Center.  The grand opening will include cookie-juggling street performers, members of both the Boone and Simmons families and an official “cookie breaking” ceremony.

I’m not sure why it’s called "Europe’s favorite cookie" because surely they’ve heard it’s "Kath’s Favorite Cookie" by now 😉

And all I have to say is that if I weren’t going to be sunning on the Carolina Beaches on July 8, I would fly there in a heartbeat!

OK, I might go have to have one goodnight taste of my Biscoff spread before I say Adieu.

I actually LIKE getting hooked on shows several seasons in, because it means I have a ton of back to back episodes I can watch all in a row! No time wasted for commercials, and if there are cliff hangers, you can just pop in the next DVD 🙂

Yay! I am so happy you’re now a SYTYCD fan too! It is addicting! After 1 short season, you will be hooked. I went to two live tours (season 3 & 4), and they’re more amazing in person. You’ll have to keep us updated with your favorites. I cry almost every show ; )

I also really like getting into shows a few seasons late — I love watching them on Netflix without commercials! Lost was awesome that way — until I caught up and had to watch it once a week like everyone else! 🙂

Dandelions are in regular rotation in our house, we like to add a little tomato and onion to sweeten them a little. One of the best things I did in life was to marry a Turk who grew up eating greens of all sorts picked fresh from his family’s ‘yard’ (in America called a farm). Thanks again for such a lovely blog!

I also thought the dandelion greens were very bitter. I tried mixing them into my regular salad greens and they stood out bigtime! Perhaps I should try cooking them like you did?

And your dinner def made my mouth water for a hot dog. It was my favorite food as a child, but now I’m vegan so that’s def out. Haha guess I’ll have to make some vegan sausages or something instead!

I usually seem to get started on TV shows several seasons in too. I think I’m hesitant to start new shows without knowing if they are really going to be good, and whether they will really be around for awhile. By the third season and enough praise from friends and family, I feel more comfortable committing myself 🙂 And as a previous commenter said… no commercials on the DVDs!

I had no idea Biscoff was anything more than airline cookies… let alone a spread or a restaurant?!

Did you know that the biscoff cookie is originaly from Belgium (were I am from :D). It’s called speculoos over here. It is mostly dipped in coffee (or some other beverage) and spread over bread.
The spread that you love so much was actually the winning invention for a show called “The Inventors” on national TV.
The lady who invented it thought it would be nice to create a spread instead of always having to dip your cookie.
Funny to see that it made it to America 😀

    Anyway, I love you blog!

I like the idea of eating something grown in the yard that we normally treat as a weed — a nutrient-packed weed! As long as you don’t spray your yard, there’s nothing wrong with harvesting dandelion greens — no need to pay a premium price at the grocery store. If you really have a lot of dandelions in your yard, you could set up shop at a farmers’ market and turn it into a money making enterprise 😉 As far as eating raw, if the flavor seems a bit strong, treat it like you would other strong greens (like arugula), and use it as one component of a salad with other leafy greens.

That’s what I love most about working out in the morning: having it out of the way for the day! I’m trying to figure out if my workouts are better or worse in the morning. If I actually do my fully planned workout, they’re better, because I really push myself and have less (or no) rest time because I want to hurry up and get it over with an eat breakfast! That’s what happens most of the time (thank God.) But somedays, like today, I want to get it over with so quickly that I cut it short a little bit (which always leaves me feeling dissatisified because I’m so stubborn that when I give into myself I beat myself up about it for the rest of the day.) Hmm…
