Snow SA-prise!!!

Did anyone know we were getting a BLIZZARD!?!?!? I had no idea until I started to snow this afternoon!!!

IMG_5681 (640x427)

We’ve got 2 inches already and counting

 this !

[PS. That’s not my house!]

IMG_5679 (640x427)

Matt and I enjoyed hot tea while we watched The Office this afternoon. I snacked on pumpkin heated up with cinnamon and topped with TJs train mix. The choco chips melted in and it was an awesome combo!

IMG_5671 (427x640)

IMG_5674 (640x427)

We almost canceled our dinner plans when we noticed that our road was covered in white, but Matt was so excited that he made us go anyways. The roads weren’t icy at all so it seemed OK to drive, but we just saw a bad accident on our way home 🙁

The destination was Cantina 1511!

IMG_5695 (427x640)

With Kelsey + Eric and Amanda + Justin!

IMG_5699 (640x427) IMG_5698 (640x427)

I wasn’t going to drink tonight, but in the moment I ordered a Dos Equis Amber on draft. Took me right to Mexico!!

[I drank about 75% and give the last bit to Matt.]

IMG_5687 (427x640)

You should have SEEN the mountain of chips they presented our table! Talk about a super-sized portion since the last time I was in a Mexican restaurant

IMG_5682 (640x427)

It was bigger than my head!

IMG_5683 (427x640)

Chips in Mexican restaurants are the #1 reason they are so fun, so I refuse to limit myself from partaking. However, I do try to select the smallest chips to minimize the amount I eat in volume. My hand is going to go in there 100 times whether I eat huge chips or small breaks, so might as well take the small breaks!

I had a fair share of chips, but didn’t feel like I ate too many.

IMG_5692 (640x427)

I liked the red best 🙂

IMG_5685 (640x427)

For dinner I debated between…

Vegetable Picadillo Enchiladas: Grilled vegetables, mushrooms, goat cheese, salsa verde, and ranchero salsa. Served with Mexican vegetable rice and black beans – $11

and

Pescado Yucatan: Grilled fish of the day [Mahi Mahi] with spicy habanero pico de gallo, pickled red onions, and black bean and plantain mash. Served with steamed corn tortillas – $18

I ended up going with the veggie enchiladas because 1) they were less expensive and 2) I was intrigued by the goat cheese and 3) the fish required too many onion modifications. But I subbed in the Black Beans and Plantain Mash for the regular black beans.

IMG_5702 (640x427)

However, I was actually really disappointed. I never order rolled up things in Mexican restaurants – I usually go with fajitas or a salad of sorts – and now I remember why! The tortillas – which I thought would be dry and flour – were really greasy and corn. And the goat cheese was more like a dry ricotta – ew. And the veggies were not well cooked so I could taste the onions way more than I wanted to! I ate about 1.5 of these and gave the rest to Matt.

IMG_5705 (640x427)

The black bean + plantain mash was AWESOME. Like sweet, mashed black beans. Might have to try this at home! I ate about 75% of this delish bowl – with a few chips dipped in!

IMG_5707 (640x427)

Matt shared a bite of his shrimps

IMG_5708 (640x427)

And Amanda, her burrito!

IMG_5704 (640x427)

I know that I ate a lot density-wise tonight, but I think this is the least full I have ever been leaving a Mexican restaurant (even though I am still full!)! I think that just means I uuuusually leave absolutely stuffed 😉

Going to enjoy this snowy surprise of an evening in my PJs with a book!

Gosh that burrito is HUGE!!! Sorry you had a disappointing dinner but the black beans/plantains sounds amazing. And those chips are addicting. Props to you for not going overboard.

We have 2 inches and counting right now too… its so pretty but honestly? Tired of it. I think this is the most snow we’ve gotten in the past few winters. At least it didn’t stop you from going out tonight!

I love going out for Mexican, and that burrito looks awesome! I usually just take out some chips onto my napkin; that way I can munch away while I chat without worrying about mindlessly overdoing it. I have to think twice before going back into the chip basket for more, and usually I don’t.

Am I the only one who isn’t crazy about chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants? I eat a few but they just don’t interest me. Probably because I’m so used to bread + buttah lol 🙂
