Smelly Kat

How keen is your sense of smell?

One thing I LOVE about morning runs is passing by a person on their way to work giving off the lovely scents of a clean shower, a spritz of perfume or a splash of aftershave. Nothin’ like a clean-smelling human!

this !

Other smells I noticed on my run today:

Sizzling bacon

Laundry detergent x3

Marijuana (not kidding!)

Sulfury eggs

Honeysuckle

Smelly trash cans x10!

Back at home, I dove into a bowlful of berries!!

IMG_2209Blog

Plain yogurt topped with chia seeds, banana, rasp + blue berries and big clusters of raw Tropical granola coming to an OpenSky email near you this week! It’s like granola meets Larabar – very delicious.

IMG_2202Blog-2IMG_2203Blog

Yesterday’s coffee!! I totally need to make more big pots at once and save them for iced coffee.

Haha, I only thought it was in Santa Monica/Venice, California that a run is always accompanied by the smell of marijuana. The sad thing is that I have grown use to that pungent smell when out on my run or bike ride.

What an interesting assortment of smells to run past! I think some of them would make me a bit queasy. 🙁

I think I have a pretty good sense of smell, and taste. The last baby shower I went to we played the game when you have to guess the flavors of baby foods…and I won by getting most of them right.

As an alternative to chilled day-old coffee, I HIGHLY recommend cold brewed coffee. I first saw it on smittenkitchen, but the recipe originated in the New York Times. I mix 2/3 C coarse ground coffee with 3 C cold water in my french press, then pop it in the refrigerator to cold brew overnight (or at least 12 hours). If you cold brew in a jar or other container (covered), strain twice through a regular coffee filter. When it’s ready, mix equal parts coffee concentrate and water, then add milk! Here’s another gem: http://www.theatlantic.com/life/archive/2011/06/iced-coffee-for-purists/240074/

Hahaha marijuana at that hour?! Crazy people…

I love it when I go on morning runs and smell breakfast wafting from houses. It always makes me excited to get home and make my own brekkie!

I love passing by the laundromat near my house while doing errands because I LOVELOVElove the smell of dryer exhaust. It’s like the freshness of laundry detergent but with a warm musty smell mixed in. Is that weird?

Do you ever cold brew coffee for iced coffee? Or room-temp brew I guess is more accurate. I’ve been working on drinking a 1/2 gallon for the past several days. I much prefer the taste of the cold brew than cold regular coffee. And no special equipment needed. I made mine in 2 mason jars.

I love all the smells you experience while running. I especially think the morning has a distinct smell on its own. I also love the smell of honeysuckle, and unfortunately have also experience the random whiff of marijuana while running (it was coming from a car as it drove by!). What I really hate is someone wearing strong perfume/cologne. It makes my nose itch!

My sense of smell is very sharp! It bothers me sometimes, because there are things I’d rather NOT smell!

hahahaha! You’re too funny. I love runs like that when you’re fully aware of your surroundings and are just soaking up the world around you.

Making big pots of coffee for iced coffee is a good idea!

I ran a 5k race last week and ran past a house that smelled like marijuana too. Thought it was odd at the time but I see from your post apparently not uncommon!

That would be torture to smell bacon while on a run! I think I would switch up my running plans and head towards the house with bacon!
