Shiny Red

Bad news on the facial front – he’s even worse. It looks like he’s wearing a mask:

IMG_7557 (640x427)

I just called the doctor and they have called in the oral Prednisone prescription to our pharmacy and I’m going to pick it up on my way to the gym in a bit.

The patient requested oatmeal for breakfast so I scratched my plan for yogurt + granola and made a pot of oats.

Topped with granola! The Best Damn Granola to be specific 🙂

IMG_7556 (640x427)

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt
  • Half banana
  • Half tbsp chia seeds
  • Half tbsp raisins
  • 1/4 cup cottage cheese
  • Vanilla
  • Best Damn Granola
  • MaraNatha AB

Spice + Nice

This bowl is a new line I’m putting in my Open Sky store. They are called Cali bowls and have an inward facing lip so that food goes back onto your spoon instead of over the edge. Kinda like a safety railing on a cliff!

IMG_7553 (640x427)

They come in different sizes, are lightweight, BPA free, dishwasher + microwave safe, and have a convenient grippy on the bottom to keep them from sliding. Excellent for oatmeal and cake mixing alike.

IMG_7544 (640x427)

IMG_7543 (640x427)

Also come in yeller!

IMG_7545 (640x427)

Should be up in the store in the next 24 hours.

Going to study, exercise and eat lunch with Kelsey!

Yeah, Matt is feeling pain for sure- hopefully the Prednisone will calm that down for him. I am sending out an all points bulletin for poison ivy hairy vines throughout the area (the southeast at least).

Going to check out the best damn granola now! Happy Wednesday!

Just started reading your blog! Great stuff!
Thought I would share a poison oak story as a word of advice….my sister had poison oak and instead of getting better, she was getting worse on the steroids….she and the doctor realized that she was ‘re-infecting’ herself with the oils that were on her backpack and car seat. Make sure you bleach/sanitize EVERYTHING that your husband may have touched after he pulled the vines down….

I hope the Prednisone works! I took that once for an allergic reaction and had more energy than I’ve ever had in my life. I only took it two days though… I heard that taking it for longer than a week can cause bad side effects (puffy face, anger issues). I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

    Hi Kath,

I wanted to say that I had a similar experience as Matt. At age 12 had a horrible reaction to poison ivy in my eyes after I found my way into a patch playing hide and seek at a family reunion. My eyes looked exactly the same way so I know what he is going through! I believe I got a cortizone shot which would be similar to the prednisone since they are both steriods. I hope this gives him hope today that this will be cleared up! 🙂

    Take care,
    Jean

omg, poor Matt. My heart goes out to him! I really hope the medicine works for him today.

I’m sure you have plenty on your mind already, so if you get a moment to answer my question I would appreciate it so much.
    I have a question regarding natural supplements/vitamins:
I’ve started to incorporate chia powder, flax seed, and vitamins into my diet recently, But, I’m wondering if I’m overdoing it?
Is it ok to take 1 T. of chia powder, 1 T. ground flaxseed, 1 multivitamin, 1000 mg of calcium supplement, 2 vitamin C gummies (240 mg) , 1 Vitamin B Boost gummies ( 20 mg Niacin (B3),
2 mg Vitamin B6, 400 mcg Folate,Folic Acid, 30mg Vitamin B12), and 1 proboiotic pill (Florastor) a day? (the gummy vitamins are the Vitafusion brand).

Do you think I need to eliminate some things? I’m afraid of overloading my system.
Some other info: I eat a pretty healthy diet and hope to get pregnant in the next year.

    THANK YOU! 🙂

Matt-get well and feel better soon! You are an incredibly good sport to have photos taken when you must feel so yucky.Let Kath take care of you as I know she will!

Kath,I have dicovered the best OATMEAL ever is not rolled oats nor steelcut oats,
but SCOTTISH OATMEAL and it takes the same time as old fashioned stovetop otmeal(10 min max).I am dying for you to try it!
It basically looks like finely chopped steelcut really, but the texture is to die for and cooks as quickly as rolled oats.So darned yummy.
I enjoy Bob’s red mill scottish oatmeal. but honestly I am sure there are other great brands out there,it’s just what I found in my store.
I would love to read a review of them from ya….pretty please?Cheers!

    Hey Kath!
A few years ago my boyfriend’s eye began swelling up just like that. He went to the hospital and they gave him a prendisone shot. Unfortunately, not only did that not work, it caused the inflamation to spread into his other eye. After days in the hospital with no relief, he requested benadryl, and soon after the swelling subsided. They still dont know exactly what caused his swelling, but it was called peri-orbital cellulitis.

I dont know if Matt has tried benadryl but it helped Brandon. I can provide pics if you want…
I hope Matt feels better and please let me know if you have any questions… maybe Brandon can help!

OMG I can’t believe the reaction he is having to that, poor thing! 🙁 I hope the meds help out.

As for those bowls, they look awesome, I haven’t seen that design before and love the concept!

    Hey Kath and Matt,
Looking at the picture I think he needs IV steroids. Don’t know if Sarah would agree with me or not. I recommend ED visit. I just tried to find your number but I don’t have it on my phone otherwise I would have called in person to tell you!

I hope the patient is doing better. Keep in close touch with your doctor- he might want to go to the ER or walk in clinic for the swelling.

Thanks for all of the poison ivy recs. I have since sanitized everything he might have touched (computer, phone, etc) with rubbing alcohol. I only go to the ER in life or death situations!! His breathing and airways are fine (even through his nose) so we’re not worried about that. He does know I’m posting the photos – it was his idea!! He is also taking benadryl, but that doesn’t seem to do much.

    Mara,
That was the 3 cup bowl.

    carrie,
Old Fashioned Rolled and they are just as healthy!

    Emma,
    French press!

    Suzanne,
Wow, that’s a lot of supplements!! I don’t think you need both the multivitamin and all of the individual. And with seeing more of your diet, it’s hard to know if you even need those! But it does sound a little bit much to me.

    Marla,
I’ve seen that oatmeal before, but it’s rather expensive! That’s why I probably wouldn’t use it or buy it. If you want to send me some in the mail, I’ll use it up 🙂

PS: THANK YOU for your sentiments on the ER (since i am there now!). however, i will admit that most of the patients i saw there over the past couple shifts looked better than matt does. of course if he starts wheezing or feeling any tightness or swelling in the throat, bring him straight in!

You guys seem to be doing all the right things to help the swelling though. Poor fella. Hope the steroids do the trick.
