Sex And The Queen City

Our night on the town in the Queen City (a.k.a. Charlotte) was fun, but too short!! We really wanted more wine, drinks, dessert, dancing and/or company but talked ourselves out of spending more money and didn’t have music or friends to fill the others.

Before SATC we went to a wine tasting just down the street.  All of the “summer wines” were fantastic and unique! I had 5 of these (about 1 glass total)

The movie was great!! Met my expectations. I agree it lagged in the middle a bit, but overall I loved it. One. long. episode

 this !

We snuck a 100 calorie bag into the theater to snack on. Shhh!

dsc00121.JPG

After the ritsy NYC movie we wanted to go to a fancy dinner with white table clothes and big bottles of wine, but we decided Dean & Deluca would be the smarter choices (for our wallets and health).

I got a humongous salad:

I just LOVE build your own salads. I choose lots of veggies and top them off with my favorite additions, goat cheese included!

The salad was composed of:

  • Mixed greens
  • Spinach
  • Snap peas
  • Carrots
  • Sprouts
  • Sun dried tomatoes
  • Roasted red peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Grilled mixed veggies
  • Kalamata olives
  • Goat cheese
  • Dijon dressing on the side

SO GOOD!! It was so big I poured about 25% on a plate to eat.

And ended up eating another 25% or so from the box afterwards.

Dean & Deluca can be dangerous for nibbling because there are always tons of great samples. I had a few for dessert, including the toffee samples!

After dinner we crossed the street to the Dean & Deluca Wine Room (a separate enterprise) for some tastes.

I started with a 2 oz taste of the Mambo Red –

And for our anniversary, the husband ordered the “07 Groom”

Second I had a grenache –

And we reluctantly called it a night.

Goodnight!

Hi Kath, glad you liked the movie! I’m seeing it on Monday and can’t wait. Anyway, I was wondering where you got your navy dress you wore a couple weeks ago. You might have worn it to one of your sister’s graduation events, but I’m not sure. It was plain navy and short sleeved. I LOVED it and need a dress for my own graduation so I’d love to try that one. Thanks! 🙂

Okay, I looked harder for it and you wore it on May 9th. Someone else asked where you got it though so maybe you don’t want to say or maybe you just missed that.

I took my brother to see Iron Man last weekend and I snuck in two dasani bottles, a box of candy for him, and a luna bar for me.

My purse is so massive that you can’t tell! It saves so much money and I’m thankful to have learned this from my mom many, many years ago!

Glad you enjoyed the movie, I’m seeing it tomorrow afternoon.

My designated “movie theater” giant tote bag is always a smorgasbord of drinks and healthy snacks for myself and my viewing companions 🙂

That salad looks so fresh and appealing! I’m now craving sun-dried tomatoes and kalamata olives.

Build-your-own-salad IS really great! Such a good time to try new veggies

Heh~way to go for sneaking snacks into the movies XD The food they sell there is way too expensive anyway!

    Mmm the samples look delicious!

Hehehe, I’m guilty for sneaking food into theatre :0) I’m a fan of ‘build your own salad’ but I always ended up getting more than I can eat … teheee :0)

Glad you guys had a good night out… I. love. free. samples. 🙂

Kath, I know you wouldn’t admit it if it were true (and I am not saying it is or anything) but I would get so annoyed if I were expected to tell people where I purchased every outfit I was photographed in. I hate telling people so they can run out and try to copy my style. That’s just me though. But FYI, here’s a blog-reader that would understand if you keep that stuff to yourself.

Kiala, You are my inspiration in this life.

    Brynn ,
    It’s from Ann Taylor Loft.

    Kiala ,
Hope you don’t have a bad hangover!

    Korin ,
I doesn’t really bother me unless it happened all the time. If we all lived in the same town, I might feel differently 🙂

    RE: SATC

I had about the same feelings as Kath on the movie – I think it’s an excellent show. I was somewhat against the idea of a SATC movie because of this continuity issue I have. What I mean is, with a TV series, it’s easy to drop off the story at the end of the season because we have this perception that the lives of the characters continue on. With a movie, however, there’s usually a strong sense of finality. I think one of the reasons SATC is such a good show is that there’s a long character arc throughout the series, but each episode can mostly stand on its own. A movie would have to straddle both those fences and do it perfectly.

Anyways, my concerns were unnecessary because the movie did an excellent job of capping off the entire series. Even more, I think it truly captured everything that is the essence of SATC: the fashion, the humor, each character’s nuances, the romance.

The only complaint I have is that it felt a bit rushed. The story line is one of those that could span an entire season on TV, but a movie has to have its setting, rise, and denouement, so at times the rushed action makes it feel contrived maybe? Nevertheless, it works well.

SATC is a great show and I’ve met very few guys who hate it, but it’s also hard to get them to admit to liking it. If your man hasn’t seen any of the episodes, I wouldn’t take him to see the movie because the characters won’t be as endearing. Hope everyone else likes it!

just out of curiosity, why do American men and women subject themselves to such distasteful entertainment? we get upset about unequal gender roles in the society and most admit that magazines such as people and US perpetuate celebrity obsession, gender stereotyping, and bad role-modeling for our youth–yet Sex and the City seems to epitomize exactly these things.

it only takes watching a few episodes to see that extramarital affairs, vanity, self-obsession, and a lack of altruism are pervasive themes in SATC. it sadness me that the carefree, non-committal attitudes of celebrities and SATC characters are condoned by American women.
why expose your self to this media (and support it by buying the ticket) if your words and lifestyles oppose it?

    just think about it.

    Maran,
Only one of mine is somewhat ripe. The guy told me to wait until Monday at least. I had to throw 2 of them away too because they were all spotted 🙁

    Thanks Kath. 🙂

My hangover is pretty bad. But at least I slept through breakfast, so it’s basically like the fourthmeal never happened.

    Right?

Oh please tell me I’m right.

I am to old to be eating at Taco Bell.

    a question,
Uh, have you even seen the show??? verything you said in your post is incorrect. If I had the time I would go throw it point by point, but I would rather go outside and enjoy the nice weather. Maybe tomorrow. Eh, probably not, I’ll be over it by then. Suffice it to say, you’re wrong!
