The Announcement: Sky’s The Limit

The newest KERF endeavor: an online shop!

OSII

A few months ago I began a conversation with Open Sky. The company’s concept is "expert-powered e-commerce, connecting consumers to experts and the products they love and use." They proposed a store where I could host my favorite products and share information why I like them in photo, text and video format. A space where blog readers can go to learn more about an item and purchase it on the same page, if they so choose. Open Sky has all the customer service you’d find at any other online store – everything is guaranteed. This store isn’t about making money, although I do get a commission on items sold, but to me, it’s more about sharing information on cool stuff and making them easy to access.

Open Sky

In the shop you’ll find wheatberries and chia seeds along with items that I often link to for more information, like my point-and-shoot Canon or my Circulon cookware.

As the project evolved, we decided to also include items on the KERF Wish List, such as a countertop compost and mandoline, and items we came across that are just cool in general, like this rainbow whisk.

I hope to be adding lots of other items as they become available, particularly more food items that are hard to get in all regions of the country. And we’re researching a KERF sample pack of goodies too 🙂

I hope the shop is entertaining at the least!

***

Glad to be out of that long car ride! It’s freezing cold and raining here 🙁 We’ve got grocery shopping to do and I have a lot more studying for my Metabolism test on Wednesday.

See you for dinner!

    Hi Kath!

I am a long-time reader but I haven’t commented a whole lot. I decided to comment today and ask you what kind of makeup you use or what your skincare regimen is? Your skin always looks so beautiful! Thanks!

Yes your skin looks great,I agree!

Hope you make lotsa dough on the commissions,or at least enough to help start your own Great Harvest dough-hee hee!

Interesting to watch bloggers like yourself try and make the blogging world into a career and be able to make some income from it.I really will be curious to watch this area develop over the next few years.Be fascinating to know what your income is this year compared to in a few years(from blog related work that is)

Such a new field,it’s so interesting!

I think you may do quite well on this endeavour.

    Keep us informed!

Hey,skin care products could be a real seller?

You really don’t care about any income from it and are only doing it for stuff to be available for your readers?Well then kudos to you,I must be a bad person cause I would definitely be trying to build a solid income from projects like this and wouldn’t begrudge you in the slightest!

    Go entrepreneurs go!!

What a neat idea. I checked out some of your reviews, and I’m so glad to see that you’re giving an honest opinion and including some of the things that you don’t like about the products. I appreciate blogger reviews, but some people give the “rah, rah, this is the greatest product EVER!!!!” to everything they sample. So glad you’re not on the suck-up train!

    Kath,
i was so happy for you with your new endeavor until I got to the line “This store isn’t about making money,…” I hope you aren’t saying that because you don’t think you deserve to make money, or because you are afraid of those people who are jealous that you earn money from your blog. You should make money and want to make money! You can’t be KERF and serve the world if you are not earning your worth!

I hate to see people apologizing for doing something they love that also earns money. I hope you make all the money you want from this.

    Virginia,
Thank you! I don’t really have any secrets: a good diet, I don’t wash my face as night (I think it over-dries), I love Noxzema for a cleanser, I always moisturize after I get out of the shower, and I love, love, love Bare Minerals makeup!

    Samuel + Laine,
Thanks for your honesty! I do think I deserve to make money, but I just wanted to clarify that I’m not expecting all of my readers to go buy all of the items right away. I really do see it foremost as an information barrier. But yes, income would be a very, very nice side dish.

FYI that OXO mandoline is a piece of junk. I got one as a wedding present and I never use it. The blades are very tricky to take in and out, and the food holder doesn’t work at all! You should definitely invest in a more expensive model.
