Rushed!

We did it!!!

Matt tried to talk us out of it, but we went running in the dark, cold….rain?! I’m not sure if it was raining, but I was all wet when we returned, so I guess it was!! We did 5.3 miles at a pretty good pace (~8:45-55)

Home, shower….I’m in a bit of a rush today because Victoria and I are meeting at 8:30 for coffee and studying before our 11:30 Metabolism exam.

What a perfect day for a RUSH BOWL!

After seeing my SIABs (smoothie in a bowl) topped with granola, I got an email from Nicole at Rush Bowls asking if I wanted to try out their own versions of SIABs. What’s cool is these are pre-made and frozen so there is no blender to dirty, and it comes WITH granola!! I think it was made just for me!

The company is based in Boulder, CO and has a whole store with tons of different freshly made smoothie bowl flavors. Ashley got to go to a complete tasting because she lives nearby! It looked amazing!! But there are 4 Rush bowls that are packaged for retail. Currently they are only available at Whole Foods (which we do not have here in Charlotte 🙁 ) but I am working to TRY to get these into my Open Sky store. CROSS YOUR FINGERS (and if you’re interested, please say so so they can gauge the interest).

I chose the Power Bowl to start with because I need the brain food for my exam and some staying power with a little extra protein. This bowl is made with organic vanilla soy milk, bananas, raspberries, blueberries, whey protein, OATS and fat-free frozen yogurt. I wish it was without the frozen yogurt because that makes the ingredient list less appealing, but the fruit + milk are the bulk of it at least. The nutritionals for this bowl are : 330 calories (the highest of them), 18g protein, 9g fiber, 20% calcium and 35% vitamin C. Sounds perfect to me!

30 seconds in the microwave:

25 more:

The instructions are printed on the bowl lid of how to thaw. You can either microwave or let it sit out for a while.

IMG_1098 (640x427)

Finished off with a blob of peanut butter!

IMG_1096 (640x427)

Totally LOVED the bowl!!! Basically it was just like my SIAB so therefore it was perfect 🙂
IMG_1099 (640x427)

Served with hot tea for warmth. Coffee is coming!

IMG_1094 (640x427)

IMG_1093 (640x427)

Cannot wait to try the other 3 flavors!

Oh, that looks delicious! I’ll have to check Whole Foods the next time I’m there. Although, I have to say, right now all I want is something super warm since it’s *freezing* over here. But a cup of tea looks like it would do just the trick with the frozen treat. 😀

Good luck on the metabolism exam!!

I have yet to make SIAB. I really need to try. But I think I should invest in some granola to top it off first.

Ooh, those look so good. Have you ever tried cottage cheese in your smoothies? It really ups the protein and makes it taste like cheesecake–I love 1/2 c. milk, 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1 c. strawberries. It tastes EXACTLY like strawberry cheesecake! So good.

I also love that glass bowl. Pretty!

I finally tried your basic oatmeal this morning. Blended the Scottish Oats with the banana, milk and water. When it was done, I added a TBSP of peanut butter. I loved the flavor, but it was a lot “mushier” than my normal Scottish Oats cooked with water, then add in raisins/craisins and walnuts. I will have to try some other other combos. I really feel like this will hold me through to lunch though, well, with the addition of a ff latte to get me through my 2 hour meeting. 🙂

Kath, I adore your blog. As a vegan, I rarely read food blogs that include meat/ dairy, but yours is the exception, due to the diversity of foods you blog about, and the useful information about nutrition that is interspersed in your posts.
Thanks for creating a really cool corner of the inter-web.
