Running Buddy

Looks like I wasn’t the only one running this morning

 this !

I took a lot of effort, but we got up to run this morning since we skipped it yesterday. We did almost exactly 5 miles in the dark – I miss the days when we brought up the sunrise! My legs felt strong – I could have easily done another few miles but we were out of time!

The husband always craves Sunny Side Oats when he works out in the morning but I always crave a banana peanut butter version and since he doesn’t like sweet/savory, we have to commit to one or the other because of the infused banana. So today I compromised and we went with the egg. I beefed it up with wheatberries , avocado , goat cheese , 3 strips of his swiss cheese and the egg –

I watched a little bit of the Emmy coverage last night. TV starts are so different from movie starts! I mostly wanted to see Josh Groban’s performance of his medley of TV theme songs. I was/am a HUGE TV theme junkie (I used to have a whole CD of almost 50 themes) and loved watching this.

He left out the best ones though: Hey Dude, Full House and Salute Your Shorts!!

NO CHEM LAB TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m to campus and back (an hour of driving for an hour of class 👿 ) and then it’s a study/relax day.

HAHA!! Kath, the opening sentence of your blog post made me laugh out loud – you and I have the same sense of humor 😀

Hey Dude, Full House and Salute Your Shorts = amazing shows. They DEFINITELY should have been included in that tribute song/performance.

And I’m with Caitlin (above), Clarissa was a favorite as well!!

Hooray for no chem lab!!! Enjoy your Monday!! 🙂

That’s nice to get a great run in that early in the morning!

Have a GREAT Monday, Kath and everyone 🙂

    Kath and/or others,

How do you keep your avocado fresh? I LOVE avodaco, but I can’t seem to keep it fresh after I cut it open and end up tossing most of it. I have tried squeezing lemon juice on it, but part of it still always turns brown. Any suggestions?

Aimee, I know the brown part looks kind of gross, but the actual avocado is still fine. I usually stick half in a ziplock bag and squeeze in half a fresh lemon. If the top turns sort of brown, you can scrape off the top layer and the rest will be nice and green. It turns brown because of contact with air, not because it’s gone bad, so make sure it’s well wrapped.

That banana bread looks great. I love to make banana bread french toast. I dip the slices in egg whites, cinnamon and vanilla mixture a cook them up in the grill. I top them with more bananas and maple syrup. Yummy breakfast.

I’m not convinced by the whole savoury oats thing but maybe its because I’m not a fan of eggs in the morning. I like a sweet breakfast…. hmmm maybe I’m just being narrow minded… its just that if I commit to trying it I would be missing out on my usual yummy breakfast! (And breakfast is my favourite meals of the day) – gosh, the dilemmas…..

whoops – I hit submit before I finished my post, my mind was too distracted by the dilemmas I face over sweet/savoury breakfast!

The main reason I was posting was that I read a few food blogs which are all mostly written by americans – it doesn’t seem to be a very english thing to do. Its really interesting as the food is different – ie brands, types.. etc… and its really opened my mind and got me to experiment with different stuff, a lot of which has now become permanent changes. Anyway…. one thing that is big in the UK (and France although I don’t know about the rest of Europe) is probiotic and prebiotic yoghurts/drinks such as Activia, Danone and Yakult and lots of people eat/drink them over here but I haven’t seen them featured AT ALL in any food blogs which intriged me. Is it an European fashion? Or are they actually as healthy/good for you as advertised? hmmmm…. would be keen to hear people’s thoughts and whether they ate them or not. My view is that I don’t go out of my way to buy them, but if I’m buying a yoghurt anyway and it is prebiotic/probiotic then bonus… (I only buy the prune ones which you can’t get as ‘normal’ yoghurts and I like the flavour).

Aimee, try leaving the pit in with the cut up avocado when you store it. I’m not sure the reason, but it helps with the browning alot. 🙂

Just wanted to chime in and agree with CourtneyS…scrape of the brown part and you will reveal a beautiful green avocado that is still perfect for eating!

Full House was my FAVORITE show when I was little…I still watch it on abc family sometimes 😀

    Erin ,
I’ve been having much smaller cups of coffee – probably 1/4 cup milk and 1/2 cup coffee. The smaller amount doesn’t bother me.

    Sarah ,
No, sorry, I didn’t make it. I’m not a huge smoothie fan because of my love for chew.

    Aimee ,
Leave the pit in. We just put ours in a tupperware. It does turn brown, but as noted above, brown tastes fine! Or just scrape it off. There are some more tips in the Cooking Questions on the FAQ page. I think lemon juice is a waste of energy.

    Ryane ,
“Soooo bad” really means “sooo good!

    Bridget ,
I always crave sweet too, which is why I need the husband’s push to make them. Once in a blue moon I crave the egg myself.

    Jo ,
I guess we Americans love our creamy yogurt!? You have great yogurt in the UK though!! We had kefir for a while last year, but I used it more like yogurt than a drink so I just went back to buying yogurt.

    Jennifer ,
We used to soak them, but now I don’t waste the time because a good boil is all you need, plus they are chewier without the soak and that’s the goal for me!

I have never heard of egg on oatmeal before. So does the oatmeal then become like a pasta or rice dish? Did that make any sense

i have never heard of an egg on oatmeal before. Does the oatmeal take the place of lets say homefries because I take it theyre not sweet oats?
