Reverse Order

IMG_6915Blog

I’m doing things in a weird order today: I just took a shower and in a bit, I’m headed to the gym!! We’re giving a tour of Great Harvest to a group of preschoolers today and I have to be there right when it starts. Since I haven’t lifted weights in a week, I hated to miss Pump, so I decided since I barely break a sweat in Pump I’d just shower first, exercise second! At least I’ll have clean sweat for the tour : )

Cereal for a quick breakfast!

IMG_6914Blog

This box fits the bill

IMG_6912Blog

I look for cereals with less than 150 calories a cup (although sometimes I do get the denser ones and use less), less than 5 grams of sugar (this one’s just on the cusp!) and 3+ grams of protein. Fiber is a nice plus, but cereals with more than a few grams scare my GI tract. I wouldn’t call this cereal the healthiest on the block, but for a honey bunches of oats craving, it works.

IMG_6913Blog

These took me right back to childhood!

IMG_6919Blog

Filled with blueberries, banana, chia seeds and milk. Plus a scoop of Sunbutter!

IMG_6918Blog

I think I have a touch of a cold. It’s all in my nose, but that might explain the lackluster yesterday. Hoping it’s on the mend.

Kath, do you look at sodium content when you’re evaluating cereals?

Have fun with the kiddies today! I loved fieldtrips as a kid, although we never got to go to a bakery. I think I would have been in my element though, because until the age of about 8, I wanted to be a baker “when I grew up”! Get some vitamin C in you and I hope you feel better soon! 🙂

Ahhh you’re making me miss cereal! I’ve looked at some gluten free ones, but they’re all pretty high calorie. Other than plain rice Chex… but those are a bit boring.

I have tried that cereal before and it is so good! I have never compared the nutritional stats to real honey bunches of oats though. Not sure if it’s healthier, or just seems that way since the word ‘organic’ is on the box.. 🙂

That looks like a delicious bowl of cereal! I’m not a huge cereal person, but I used to LOVE honey bunches of oats. Problem was I’d eat a half a box at a time! Clearly not a problem when you add all the berries, chia, banana, and sun butter! Looks soooo filling! Try some elderberry for the sniffles and feel better soon!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who believes there is such a thing as “clean” sweat. Sometimes if I know I want to work out in the morning, but I don’t have enough time to shower, I’ll do a full shower and shave the night before and a quick “rinse” shower after my workout if I need one.

The nose issue might be here to stay until delivery. I had a stuffy/runny nose for my first pregnancy and this one seems to be following suit.

I’m not sure if it’s better to wish yours was just a small cold or not. :/

I can still remember a field trip when I was in grade school to the local bakery. It is no longer there but I can still remember it’s name, International Bakery, the smell of the freshly baked goodies, the layout and that honey dipped doughnut we got at the end of the tour! I’m really not much of a sweater 🙂 It takes a 90* day or hot yoga to really get me sweating – or a really fast running race. My elbows sweat in squats in the summer, but in the winter I’m in long sleeves and pants and often still cold! And I’m one of the heaviest weight users in the class, so I think I’m challenging myself 🙂 (Well not as much after pregnancy though)

I’m just curious at your comment about cereals with more than a few grams of fiber scaring your GI tract. Is this a personal thing or is there a RD reason behind it? I was wondering because I usually go for the higher fiber cereals. Thanks! 🙂

    • KathEats says

This is personal opinion. I don’t think foods should have added fiber to them. I remember eating some wraps a long time ago that had something like 14 grams of fiber each (mostly from added plant-based fibers so they were claimed to be “natural” but that just doesn’t seem natural to me) so I decided a long time ago that added fibers, natural or not, were not real food. They are not the way nature intended. I don’t think they’ll hurt you (although I wouldn’t be surprised if they did upset stomachs] but I just choose not to buy products with added fibers.

[That’s not to say that everything I eat is nature’s choice, but this was an easy tweak to make when purchasing things to be more natural]
