Reunion Weekend

Foodblog-8888-2

We spent the weekend in Greentown, Pennsylvania at our family reunion! My grandmother, Vivian, my dad’s mother, was one of 6 siblings. My grandmother passed away a few years ago, and now only one of the siblings is still with us, Aunt Byrnece. Forty of us gathered at Aunt Carol’s house for our first official family reunion.

Foodblog-8832

My parents drove up to Cville on Thursday and on Friday morning mom, dad, Mazen and I made the day-long drive to Greentown. We rented a lake house on Lake Wallenpaupack along with my Aunt Pat and cousin Crystal.

Foodblog-8889

Friday night we met the relatives who had arrived early at Carol’s. We ate pizza, salad and cocktails in perfect weather among the rolling Pennsylvania countryside hills.

Saturday I went for a run for an unknown amount of time and unknown distance along the lake. We ate breakfast and relaxed before packing up to head back to Carol’s for the day.

We had a huge picnic lunch with hamburgers and a million side dishes

Foodblog-8836

Our group was in charge of bringing a couple of big veggie platters that I assembled in the morning – refreshing!

Plus a beer! The white circle is a cheeseburger : )

Foodblog-8834

Best dessert EVAAAH! Burnt marshmallow + melty chocolate + graham crackers + long stick + fire pit.

Foodblog-8844

We played and played and talked all afternoon. There were 2 other 2-year-olds for Mazen to chase around.

Later that evening we said farewell and went back to our house for bed. For a light supper we had leftover veggies…

And ice cream!

With lots of stories for dessert : )

Veggies and ice cream is a balanced meal! Eggs in the milk is protien, milk is the dairy and veggies! (Yep that is the way I used to sell it to myself that ice cream was a healthy choice)

I love family get-togethers! My grandparents used to have a reunion every few years and it was probably the only times we got to see a lot of our relatives (hectic schedules and living all across the US). I don’t count funerals because those are too depressing. It looks like you had perfect weather for it too!

Ice cream is totally healthy. No one will ever convince me otherwise. 🙂

Beautiful pictures of a part of my state which I have no idea where it is. Nice to have the family time like that (which I can tell is important to you and your family).

Just a style question: How do you get all the pictures of yourself and your son? Do you have someone to take those pictures or do you set up your camera on a tripod? Are you using an SLR and what kind of lens? I am having absolutely no luck at getting pictures anywhere close to the beautiful ones you routinely post.

Hey Kath! I’d love to hear more about how you organize your photos, especially the daily life/family-type photos. Do you use a software or have a special folder system?

I don’t save my blog photos after upload and special event and family photos go in a special family folder. I really wish I did have a better system but there are just too many photos to sort!

My absolute fav part of this post – “went running for an undetermined distance for an undetermined amount of time!” That felt freeing just reading it! I’m so attached to my nike read out on my iPod and am heading to the beach this weekend. Perhaps I’ll give myself permission to enjoy at least one run/walk without keeping tabs on my time/distance. 🙂

Thanks for the inspiration. It looks like it was a lovely weekend!

Aw see you are making me homesick. I had to look up Greentown… Opposite side of the state from where I grew up. Both sides of my family are having reunions this year and I’m missing them. But plane tickets are so expensive this year… Couldn’t justify $700×4.
