New Finds

This post contains sponsored content

The latest edition of New Finds is upon us! I have a fun mix to share today – some sent to me and some discovered!

Foodblog-8704

The first of the new finds are Brady Bands. These beautiful headbands were created to honor the founder’s son, Brayden, who passed away in 2012 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. As the mother of a son, this tears at my heart. 10% of sales from Brady Bands are donated to cancer research.

Foodblog-105823

The bands have a velvety underside so they don’t slip. They are more of an accessory headband than a sport band, so they fit smoothly not snugly. I have trouble getting sport bands to stay on my head, but because these are looser they stay put without squeezing. I hope you’ll consider getting one or buying one for a friend to support a good cause!

Next up is this amazing sea salt by Salt Revolution. The company sent me a sample bag, and I’ve been using it on all of our summer salads and dishes. The salt revolution started on a surf trip to Mexico when the founder first tasted Aztec sea salt. It is harvested over a 45 day period each year at the Cuyutlán Lagoon since the Aztecs. Read all about it here.

I can vouch that the taste, size and shape make it special – giant flakes provide a lovely texture and a little goes a very long way to add some salty crunch to your cooking. The flavor is very….. fresh. In a beachy way!

Foodblog-8718

The bag it comes in turns into a handy pouch for your countertop. Cute! If you are a salt connoisseur, you should give Salt Revolution a try. You can get a free sample on their website (and just pay shipping), FYI!

Foodblog-8716

Salt Revolution is giving away FIVE bags of their salt here on KERF! Enter below to win. USA only please.

I love the GAP and peek in often when I’m at the mall. I picked up a pair of their gStride shorts one day and went back for more.

Foodblog-153318

They’re the best workout shorts I’ve found in years! Perfect fit, size and often on sale/BOGO, as they were here when I bought two pairs. {Top by Stitch Fix!!}

Have you heard of Quirky? It’s a site that features cool new inventions and brings inventors’ ideas to life. They sent me two of their tech products to try out – in my favorite color aqua!

Foodblog-8686

The first is called Converge and was invented by Jin Chai of California. It’s a docking station that shows off your gadgets at the same time. I’ve been looking for a good docking station for a while, but I haven’t ever bought one because I couldn’t find one that was stylish enough to be on display in my house. This guy is gorg and goes with my hand-painted chest and Target lamp.

Foodblog-8687

Not only does it match my color theme, but it is a simple design with clean lines that feels sleek not cluttered.

Foodblog-8690

I have our 7” tablet, my Nokia Lumia and my headset all free to charge here when they need it. Cords are tucked nicely in the back under built-in bands. The plugs are only for USB, so my headset had to go down to the wall outlet, but otherwise this product is an organizer’s dream.

Foodblog-8692

The second product is called Cordies, a desktop (or tabletop) cord manager invented by Stephen Stewart of the UK. I’ve tried a different cord holder once before – one that stuck onto my table – and it un-stuck itself weeks after I bought it from the movement of the cords. This little Cordies guy is rubbery and weighted so while it can move around, it mostly stays put on my nightstand.

Foodblog-8694

So far my baby monitor cord and phone docking cord (which I detach to charge my other tablet often) haven’t fallen through the cracks! Thumbs up!

Last but not least, I give you my new favorite lip product! LAQA & Co’s Fat Lip Pencil. This guy came in my Birchbox and I’ve been getting tons of compliments on it. It’s just the right shade for me, and the pencil-style color really lasts. It’s not too dry and it is moisturizing enough that it doesn’t look cracked or feathered and doesn’t need a gloss layer on top.

Lastly, shout out to my friend and chiropractor, Dr. Tate Huffman at Core Charlottesville! I was doing GI Jane pull-ups with Erin and hurt something in my neck. Fearing the worst, I went to have my neck checked out the next morning. Some electro-work, a quick adjustment and massage and he had me back to normal a day later. We are on the same soccer team this summer, so we were both glad I didn’t have to miss a game : )

That’s all for today folks!

Hi kath. What links are affiliate links? This makes me nervous in terms of product reviews, it makes me question whether you actually like the product or are simply saying you like it because you are getting paid to do so. Can you please clarify? Thanks 🙂

Just StitchFix and Birchbox mentions. If you’re nervous about affiliate links, it’s probably best to assume every link on a blog is one and just go to the site naturally : ) Sometimes I’m not getting a kickback, but the company still uses tracking code to see if a sponsored post was worth the investment and things.

i’m totally confused by that salt guy’s website. he claims that commercial salt is 99.7% sodium chloride and filled with toxins, whereas his special magic salt has 80+ minerals. it feels really pseudoscientific (as does anything with vague references to “toxins”). maybe as an RD you could weigh in by doing a post?

    Reply
    • KathEats says

      June 30, 2014 at 11:54 am

I haven’t researched salt extensively, but the minerals would vary depending on where the salt was made. I think the draw is more taste/texture than any particular health benefit (or toxin level in “regular” salt).

Laura, you should give Maldon sea salt a try if you can find it. It’s fabulous! It’s from the UK, and the salt is almost flaky – it’s a great finishing salt for almost anything. An 8.5 oz box should run between $6-10, depending on where you live (online is about $7 average). Jamie Oliver, Ferran Adria, Delia Smith and more all use it (I first saw it on one of Jamie’s shows), if that means anything to you. All I know is it’s my favorite salt, and the price is really reasonable.

So…like calling modified push-ups “girl” push ups, they are GI Janes because they are easier? If I’m wrong, awesome, but if so it doesn’t really help the “women are weaker than men and should work out differently” stereotype. I know it’s not your phrase.
