Hi Kath! Tulips are my fav! They are so pretty!

    I have an oats question.

When I make oats for me and the hubbie this is the mix I use:

    1/3 oats
    1/3 oat bran
    1/3 milk
    1/3 water
    1 thin sliced banana

Sometimes I find that I don’t have enough liquid and the oats end up kind gummy. When you make yours for one, I notice you have 1/3 oats milk AND water. Can you help me adjust this liquid problem? 🙂

I greatly appreciate your help! Love your blog!

Oops! I meant to write this!

    2/3 oats/oatbran
    2/3 milk
    2/3 h2o
    1 sliced whole banana

This is how I make it, and I don’t ever have enough liquid, its gets gummy and I have to add more water.

    Thanks! Sorry for posting twice!

I think you should double your liquid!! I’ve been adding a bit more water (same amount of milk) for when I use oatbran, as I think it requires a bigger water:grain ratio than regular oats do. Just add more – it may take slightly longer to cook, but you’ll get more volume.

I’ve been using 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup water, 1 squashed banana and it turns out perfect every time, I just add whatever more I fancy. Maybe it depends on the type of oats as well? I use Scottish oats.

When you add cottage cheese… does the “small curd” really stand out or does it smooth out? I have an irrational fear of cottage cheese, but that oatmeal looks deliciously fluffy!

I’d say it MOSTLY smooths out but there are curds visible. Don’t be afraid! Just get a good organic cottage cheese (I like Whole Foods’ and Organic Valley’s) and skip that fat-free mumbo jumbo.

I so agree. I use organic yoghurt and it’s full fat, so much better than low fat and it fills me up so much more. It feels more nourishing somehow! I love this brand in the UK:
