Planning Around The Unknown

I’m still trying to pack in as much as possible before baby time, which could be in 10 minutes or 10 days from now – who knows!

I literally jumped off my afternoon call, brushed my teeth lightening fast, and zoomed over to the dentist for a 3pm appointment.

I was scared – I have been drinking swigs of lemonade during the night for a trimester without doing much anything to protect my teeth from the juice’s sugar. Having a cavity drilled this week would have been awful mentally. Having one drilled with a newborn – not convenient at all. Waiting months and months – not good either.

Sooooo……you can imagine my JOY when I left the dentist cavity free!!!!

I promise teeth, I will stop the lemonade in 10 minutes or 10 days – who knows!

Foodblog-4267

After the dentist I rushed home, ate two big dates smothered in almond butter, and left for prenatal yoga.

I’m going to miss this class SO much!! Just now at the end, I have become friends with some of the other women and it will be so sad not to see everyone every week. I really wish there was a post-natal yoga class where we could go to chat about motherhood while holding downward facing dog over our babies. (Well there is at Bend but it won’t be quite the same group!)

After a gorgeous walk home, Matt put dinner on the table.

Chicken sausage “hot dogs”

Okra fries

And roasted beets

Foodblog-4262

I really tried, but I could only eat three beet slices. My palate was just not into them. I also left some okra on my plate. But the hot dog hit the spot!

Foodblog-4269

I can tell this is one of those nights where I’m going to need a bedtime snack – I’m already hungry again! And I’m hoping it keeps me sound asleep tonight…

Hmmm…you brush your teeth before the dentist? I wonder how many people do this! It’s kind of interesting, since they will be brushing your teeth even more thoroughly once you get there…

I always brush my teeth before going to the dentist as well and make sure not to eat garlic the night before. Personally I think it is probably one of the worst jobs in the world and you couldn’t pay me enough to fish around in peoples mouths – especially if they haven’t brushed beforehand.

I brush before the dentist. The dentist I went growing up and as a young adult even had a place to brush before going in. The military has to brush your teeth before the dentist (at least in my experience!). I think its quite common.

I cannot imagine not brushing before the dentist. I brush & floss before my dentist appointments. I would be embarrassed if I showed up to a dental appointment with plaque and/or food particles on my teeth.

Oh, you should get your friends to join you in Baby & Me yoga! It was one of my favorite things I did with my firstborn. He loved rolling around on the yoga mat, and it was one place where I always felt 100% comfortable nursing in public and not embarrassed if he cried.

At least swish with water after your lemonade if you are going to go back to bed! Lemonade is very acidic and the water will help so it doesn’t sit on your teeth while you sleep

And to clarify my previous comment … I had a little trouble understanding that sometimes, babies just cry. I wasn’t embarrassed about him, just felt like if I were doing everything right, he wouldn’t cry, and that is soooooooo not the case!

Did you ever try eating more throughout the day so that maybe you don’t get hungry during the night? I know you don’t post everything you eat on the blog but it doesn’t seem like you eat enough throughout the day — just by judging the amount of food you eat at each meal. Just a thought for you!

    Hi Kath –
How long do you roast the okra “fries” for? Do you season them with anything other than S&P? They look simple and delish and I need to give ’em a try.

I’ve been on a make-everything-into-fries kick as of late, and having just moved south I really feel like I need to learn how to make okra fries! I’ve just been a little nervous, but you’ve inspired me. I think this week is the week. I’m going to take the plunge!

This might seem a stupid question , but do you eat the tops of the roasted okra or cut them off and leave them on the plate? Are they tender?

I leave them on the plate – they are a bit hard to chew 🙂
