Out With The Old, In With The New

Water and sweat, that is. I think sweating and thirst and the two biggest reasons a workout makes one feel much better when suffering from a hangover. I certainly felt much better after some deep breathing, sweating and H2O chugging on the elliptical this afternoon.

I had the most miserable morning – but not because I felt icky – because technology was fighting with me! After the Windows Live Writer troubles, my firewall and my Eye-Fi card began a power struggle that shut down my internet access over and over. After 2 hours of restarting my computer over and over with different settings, I finally came to a resolution.

At 1:30 I still hadn’t exercised, showered or had lunch! I wasn’t really hungry due to my upset digestive tract so I had a mini LaraBar as a snack and went to the gym. This was my first time trying pistachio flavor – it was just OK.

I came home from the gym craving veggies and had to make do with what we had on hand:

IMG_0297

Carrots, celery and pickles with the last of my homemade hummus –

IMG_0296

And I got my banana-oat fix in with some Fage topped with a sliced banana, a few wheatberries, and about 1/4 a cup of some muesli I bought from a bulk bin at EF ages ago.

IMG_0295

But little did I know that I had no yet gotten my fill of banana today – this delightful tin arrived in the mail from VeggieGirl!

IMG_0301

And it was filled with 6 Banana Fig Pistachio Muffins!!!

IMG_0304

IMG_0303

I was going to keep myself in suspense a few hours and have one for dessert tonight, but the husband decided he wanted one ASAP and after I saw him enjoying his, I had to try one too 🙂

IMG_0306

They were definitely the moistest muffins I have ever had – and you guys know how I like doughy moist things!! The banana flavor was outstanding and I liked how the pistachios had a real chomp to them.

IMG_0307

But the shining moment was when I discovered a FIG POCKET!! I love, love figs and this little guy had been perfectly preserved in the middle of the muffin. It was like eating a healthy jelly donut 🙂

IMG_0308

Thank you so much VeggieGirl for sending the treats!!

I am finally showered and am off to the grocery store!

I’ll GLADLY accept any leftover mini Larabars!! 😀

Aww yay!! So relieved that the muffins arrived and that you like them; and yes, they are supposed to be “jelly-donut-like” on the inside – my personal favorite muffin-style.

    Have fun food-shopping!!

    Hey Kath-
I just found out that the Fresh Market in Birmingham, Al is going to be stocking Barney Butter later this month. I can’t find any info about it on the FM website or BB’s so I don’t know if it will show up at all FMs or just this one. Hopefully it will show up in them all!

Hi Kath! Your blog is FABULOUS and I love the layout, your posts, and the pictures. I have a question though – When it comes to buying produce like greek yogurt, how does one afford to eat such delicious, yet expensive goodies on a regular basis????? (In Chicago, Fage is $2 a piece)
*sigh* Also, do you think Larabars really are worth the calories?? Especially if some of them aren’t the tastiest bars in the world. Thanks!! If you have time.. would love to hear from you! Thanks for such a wonderful blog. 🙂

    Kristy ,
Great news! I’ve already been checking my Fresh Market for it 🙂

    K,
    pornilicious – hilarious!!

    Michelle ,
I agree, Greek yogurt is a very bad habit. I found Fage in a 32 oz container for $7.99. If you make it last (have a half cup portion each time instead of a cup) it is a bit better. I try to convince myself to have other snacks a few days a week and eat cheaper foods.

And I used to think LaraBars were not worth the calories, until I started eating them more. I nibble my way through them and make them last a long time, and they really do tide my hunger well (not necessarily fill me up – I use bars more as a tide-me-over). I think some of the flavors (PB, Coconut, Pecan Pie) are so tasty that they’re worth it over other kinds of bars.

    K

Mmmmmmm…I love the pistachio larabars. I know they aren’t as strongly flavored as some of the others, but I really like that mild almost creamy taste. I also love the new coconut cream pie bars for that same reason- they’re just so mellow and chilled out.
