Old Man Winter

IMG_7996-2Blog

It feels like a chilly fall morning out there. I was even tempted to put on a Christmas piano song. It appears that Old Man Winter left something in Cville before his journey to the north pole.

IMG_8002-2Blog

Thus, hot oatmeal sounded nice and cozy this morning.

IMG_7997-2Blog

In the bowl:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • Chia seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/3 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • Salty peanuts
  • TJ’s Cookie Butter

The perfect blend of sweet + salty!

Good ole hot tea!

A little note: For the most part, KERF is a diary of every meal I eat. Not necessarily every bite, but every meal and official snack. But now, with this little one growing inside of me, I’m finding that I need meals spontaneously! Last night before bed, my stomach literally growled. A mug and a half of cereal did the trick. It wasn’t worthy of a blog post or photograph, but it played a significant role in my needs for the day. I also had a few handfuls of trail mix on my ride home yesterday. I’m just clarifying this in case any of you assume that everything you see here is everything I’m eating!

Have a wonderful Monday Tuesday!!!

It’s feeling a little too chilly for my liking here this morning too, Kath! Last week was gorgeous but I had to go back to wearing pants over my shorts to the gym this morning… not cool! I hope you have a good day – stay warm! 🙂

You mean you weren’t going to set up your light set, grab your tripod and take multiple photos of the cereal bowl? Slacker! 🙂

I’m enjoying the cool day. One last one [hopefully] before it becomes blazing hot.

I’m kind of liking that it’s chilly again. It gives me more reason to continue wearing my uggs. 🙂 Since there wasn’t much of a winter where I live this year, I’ll take this week of cold before the spring/summer weather arrives. Have a great Tuesday!

It’s chilly here too this morning. I just tried to remote start my car and it crossed it’s tires and said “Hmmph!” So I had to go outside and start it manually. I just ran it yesterday when it was 70! PLEASE! I thought *I* had a temperment! HA!

Yum, sweet + salty is the best!! Sounds like a perfect bowl of oatmeal. Old man winter came back to Ohio, too – hopefully he’ll quickly find what he forgot and head back to the North Pole soon 🙂

It was 22 degrees here when I woke up and I really wanted a hot bowl of oats too but then I looked at the clock and realized I overslept by 30 minutes and that went out the window. Trying to warm up with coffee now but it’s still not doing the trick! Where did those spring temps go?!

Old man Winter has certainly arrived here in Southern Ontario! I was shocked yesterday morning when I stepped outside, in what seemed like a glorious sunny warm day, to frigid temperatures and a gail force wind! I had to totally revamp my day’s attire! Today is another deceivingly sunny day with an icy chill on the side! I remember having to constantly be snacking to avoid my nausea whilst pregnant! I think it sets you up for when you have kids…I never leave the house without snacks for the kids!

I had an overnight oats fail this morning 🙁 it wasn’t sweet at ALL! But that’s probably because I added no sweetener of any kind…plus I used regular milk instead of almond (which usually adds some sweetness) nonetheless I fixed it up by crumbling some granola atop :)…I know you care 😉 almost 1.5 weeks until I shop your GH…

I LOVE peanuts on top of oatmeal- that sweet + salty combo is where it’s AT.

The thing with pregnancy (and then with nursing!) is that yes, you can and do get fiercely hungry on the drop of a dime…like from 0 to 60 in about 2 seconds, out of the blue. Glad the midnight snacks are working for you to tame the hunger beast 🙂

When I as pregnant I always had to have a midnite snack. At first I’d wait in bed thinking I didn’t NEED a snack but I couldn’t get back to sleep and I knew I just needed that snack! I usually just had a piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and it did the trick. Sometimes I would have a small mug of cereal instead that worked too.

Oh how I love Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter. I really don’t know that there is anything healthy in it, but it’s a great test for me to enjoy all things in moderation. I enjoyed a tablespoon last night on toast… and then two more tablespoons on an apple :-/ I counted all the calories for it, but I’m still working on moderation.

That happened to me a few times around 14/15 weeks, but not as much anymore. Try having a snack before bedtime – I think that helps (esp. one with a little fat/protein)
