Old Flame

I unwound with a great long walk this afternoon. Shout out to mom, who is wise as an owl!

I had mild nausea all day today, so I chugged some OJ before my walk and took a Great Harvest Temecula Trek bar with me to nibble on if I needed some fuel mid-way through. [I did.]

Matt and went on a date night this evening. When we want to rekindle the flame, we go one of two places:

Sonoma Wine Country

[Honeymoon 2007]

La Crema - yum!Blog

[Anniversary 2010]

Or…

Brixx  Pizza!

IMG_6966Blog

Brixx was founded in Charlotte and we spent many-a-night devouring their wood-fired pizzas, great salads and pints of beer in college at the Birkdale location. We completed the MBA club and probably went every Friday night our sophomore year. It remains one of our very favorite restaurants, and it’s so cool that a franchise opened in Cville last year!

We had a coupon for a free app with the purchase of two pizzas arrive in the mail today, and once I had Brixx on the brain, the thought of anything else for dinner made me nauseous. Yet I could imagine myself eating a Brixx spinach salad [it has a special taste + dressing that was appealing] and pizza.

Good timing that the Duke – Carolina game was on! Sadly the game did not go in our favor 🙁

IMG_6971Blog

I didn’t order my own beer sampler like the good old days – but Matt enjoyed his

IMG_6968Blog

But my club soda was pretty bubbly, so I didn’t miss much

IMG_6970Blog

We shared a spinach salad our server was kind enough to put in two bowls – I ate every leaf!

IMG_6972Blog

And then dove into these!

IMG_6975Blog

A Spicy Shrimp (we always get this one!)

IMG_6977Blog

And an Americo, which sometimes replaces the Wild Mushroom, Mexican or Quattro Formaggio. We only ate half and have a good amount left for Monday’s lunch/dinner!

IMG_6976Blog

Also included the Barracks Road coupon book that came today was a BOGO coupon for Ben & Jerry’s. Guess the shopping center’s marketing strategy worked, because the coupons got us in the door and spending money at both places!

I had a Bonoroo Buzz and Matt, Cookie Dough.

IMG_6980Blog

Although we had a coupon, I was shocked to read on the menu that a SMALL CONE costs $4.13! I thought ice cream cones were supposed to be $1.50 or something!? I must be stuck in the 80s. That makes my $9.99 pint to Jeni’s all the more appealing when you think you can get 3 good servings out of it…

LOST, then sleep!

I think a scoop of Jeni’s is $5, but $1 more you can get the trio, which is three scoops- a great way to indulge in multiple flavors. I live in the birthplace of Jeni’s ice cream, so there are scoop shops around the city. Crazy prices, but delicious.

You could always try your hand at making her recipes with her book. I’ve made two with success and am eager to try more this summer.

I love the Bonnaroo Buzz, too. When I went to Bonnaroo 2011, I had a cone nearly everyday!

Pizza and ice cream are a wonderful combination! I currently live in a small town in the mid-west and you can get ice cream cones cheaply. The best part is I can walk to the store for the ice cream 🙂

I’m the same with ice cream prices….I am stuck with my childhood favorite Ice Cream from Thrifty’s (now called Rite-Aid) and they only cost around $2 for 2 huge scoops. Now I go into these more gourmet ice cream shops and can’t believer the prices nowadays. But it still doesn’t stop me from buying it though.

Nice night! How tall are you guys?

I love the crust on those pizzas. Does Matt ever play make different pizza crust or does he stick with the usual thick one we see on your blog?

I had an ice cream tonight too and was sticker-shocked — $3.56 for a small! When we owned an ice cream stand, our small was $1 (soft serve) and $1.35 for gelato. Dairy has gone up, up, up — but what hasn’t? Sigh.

Those pizzas are awesome. Very akin to NY pizza, so it gets a pass. 🙂

There is a gelato place in central Auckland that has the best gelato in the world, but it is around $6 for a cone, so it is a real treat!

The pizzas look good, but too much crust for me. I’m a ‘toppings to the edge’ kinda girl!

Pizza and ice cream sounds amazing! at least the BOGO makes each one only slightly over $2, which is at least reasonable. I prefer buying a 2.50 half galon and making it last a couple nights. Unless its date night and then its a huge thing of froyo that costs 5 bucks but oh so worth it since about 3 bucks of that is undercooked fudgy brownie pieces!

What a yummy dinner. Ice cream IS very pricey these days! I worked at Maggie Moos back in high school (first job) and I thought it was expensive then…. nothing compared to the prices now. We usually just buy ice cream at the store and enjoy at home, unless we are going out for fro yo. 🙂
