Of The Essence

Time is of the essence today. I’ve got two big tests tomorrow and I’m not even close to being ready! I am meeting Victoria at 1pm to study at the coffee shop all afternoon, so I decided to make yoga my exercise for the day. I did a 60 minute flow in my bedroom just after getting up at 6 – Dave Farmar’s Power Vinyasa from YogaDownload.com. I liked it a lot and was really feeling the burn in the first 30 minutes. The second half was more balancing and stretching, but it was still enjoyable. And it went by so fast.

I came down and knew I wanted to cut into my mango, but I didn’t know what to do with it. I wanted oatmeal but I didn’t want to cook oatmeal. I wanted yogurt but didn’t know what else. I ended up coming a  Better Whey yogurt with some cereal into this bowl:

I like these Better Whey yogurts, but I just prefer plain yogurt. These aren’t too sweet, but I think the flavor is just distracting.

The combo:

  • Better Whey Peach Mango
  • 1/4 cup AgavePlus Granola (love that!!)
  • 1/4 cup Kashi GoLean
  • 1/2 large banana
  • 1/3 cup mango
  • 1 tbsp blueberry preserves
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • 1 tbsp Barney Butter, scattered about

The whole time I was eating this I was wishing I had made oatmeal and coffee 🙁

Not sure what I am going to do about lunch with my 1pm meeting. Noon will be too early, so I might have to pack a sandwich and blog late this afternoon.

As of tomorrow night I’ll be finished with everything but final exams!! (And a generous handful of small things like proofreading, editing, etc.)

Hope your sun is out because mine is NOT!

Do you find that you are a bit stiff doing yoga first thing in the morning? It feels so much better (and is more enjoyable!) if I do yoga in the afternoon, after I’ve been moving around all morning and am loosened up. I have no problem doing cardio or strength training first thing, but yoga is a different story…. Pilates too actually. Anyone else find this to be true?

I had a very similar breakfast today! With plain yogurt, though, which I agree allows you to taste all the other flavors much better.

    Oh the dilemma:

    1. Not fully enjoy eating what you’re eating and not waste food
    2. Start all over with the cooking process and waste what you just made but totally enjoy the new swap-out

I’ve been so inspired by your blog and your food (made parchment fish again last night) that I decided to mimic you in another way today. I got up, downloaded some yoga, and flailed around for 20 minutes. I am NOT flexible. I want to like yoga. I know yoga is good for me. I know that doing yoga will improve my flexibility. But when you can’t touch your toes, doing a lot of the poses is virtually impossible. Which leads me to my question…

Are there any of the 20 minute free yoga downloads that you think would be a good starting place for a non-flexible, yoga novice (despite many attempts) who wants to get a little morning activity in prior to work?

Thanks so much! Love your blog!

You definitely had a wild blend of flavors going, but I”m totally with you! PLAIN is the way to go sometimes. Too many flavors = too distracting!

    Alison + JENNA ,
Yes, I am definitely more stiff in the mornings. My down dogs and forward bends are SO much deeper after a workout. But it only takes me about 10 minutes to loosen up. The stiffness makes it makes it all the more important!

    EatingRD ,
