Paperwhite update!!! I got a bulb kit for Christmas and growing these was effortless! Just put in dirt and watch them grow. So cool! They smell just like my grandmother’s house, as she always has plants all around.
Getting up was easy this morning because it wasn’t freezing cold! We’ve got a moderate 54* and warming as we speak. Unfortunately there is some rain in the forecast, but I’ll take some rain for some 70s.
I had a great well-rounded workout today: 26 minutes on the Stepmill, 20 on the Squirrelliptical and ~15 weight lifting (biceps, shoulders, delts, triceps, abs). Sweet!
Since I’ve been having “no cook” breakfasts on Wednesdays and Fridays, I thought today I’d make a sandwich! The husband brought home a new low-carb bread, although it needs a need name because low-carb is not appealing! I’m going to call it French Toast Bread because it is made with egg and tofu and has a mild french toast eggy taste.
So I made a Barney Butter + Banana Sandwich!
~1.5 tbsp BB and 1/2 a banana
Plus oranges. You guys have asked me if the blog influences what I eat? Not really, but today I decided to add a few orange slices for no reason other than their bright color would look good in the photos!
And lastly I had a bowl of yogurt with blueberries, walnuts and almonds. This was the last of my TJ’s Euro yogurt (~1/3 cup).
+ Butterscotch Toffee.
Test time!! It’s hard to know if I am ready. Food Science and nutrition are “my subjects” so I can’t tell if I really know this stuff or not. When studying something like Organic chem, I know I don’t know any of it and must memorize it all, but I know so many bits and pieces about nutrition and cooking that it’s hard to tell if I really know this stuff. Guess I’ll just have to go with my gut, which is full of nutritious food at the moment!
LOOOVE the BBB sandwich 😀
Best of luck with the test!!
Beadie @ What I Ate Yesterday says
I agree, they should change the name, low carb bread does not sound appealing. However, french toast bread sounds fab!

Yummy breakfast! I love PB and Banana sammies. Good luck on your test!!
Good luck on the test Kath! I have a Chem exam today as well… I hate the feeling I have leading up to tests, but after it I feel such a sense of relief! You’ll do great!
Oh, and I meant to add that this breakfast took me LONGER to assemble than it takes for me to make a small pot of oatmeal!! Too many components, plus coffee. Oatmeal is more hands-off!
Lively no cook breakfast, that what i did this morning to just did not feel like cooking!! Good luck on your test!!:)
Love the oranges with the matching candle 😉
And those blue dishes are hands-down my FAVORITE dishes of yours!!
best of luck on your test.
i wouldve killed those paperwhites, somehow. i have a brown thumb. 🙂
Ohmygoodness! The flowers are gorgeous! They just have to make your day brighter when you look at them! 🙂
amazing sandwich!!! banana + PB = real success!!!
Love the paper whites. My daughter the gardener!
i eat banana & almond butter (my love) almost every day in some form or another… in oatmeal, as a sandwich, as a banana-sandwich (no bread), or my favorite, open-faced atop an ezekiel 4:9 english muffin. in fact, i just finished that 15 minutes ago for my breakfast… pictures posted on my blog!
ooh! pretty flowers Kath!
Your BB sandwich looks soOo tantalizing. The whole meal looks really satisfying.
Good luck on your exam. I’m sure you’ll do fine. You seem to lost much about food and all of it’s components. Plus you’re a nerdy girl 😉
oops sorry for another comment but how long did it take for the paperwhites to grow? and i’m wondering if my cat my eat them? she only ate pink leaves off of a pretty flower plant once… =)
YUUUUM! That’s my type of breakfast! 🙂
Mara @ What's For Dinner? says
I love the fact that your real orange slices and your candle orange slice are almost identical, except for the whole flame thing.
We had a banana pb grilled sandwich last night after dinner, on Ezekial cinnamon raisin bread. And I had the last of my TJ Euro yogurt this morning too.
good luck on the test! oh and I am submitting my article to Chicago Mag, so I will let you know how it goes!
ATTN: Kath & Oatmeal lovers! This was too cute:

Those flowers must be a great pick-me-up in the morning. Any plant we keep in the house gets chewed on by our cats!

Lovely photos! I find myself adding certain foods to images to pump up the color too…I think its good not only for the photos but also to ensure I’m getting as many nutrients as possible! 🙂
Hope your test goes well! I wish I had that sandwich for my breakfast.

What a beautiful and yummy looking breakfast!
Hope your test goes well!
I am inspired by how much you blog! You have a huge following, which is wonderful. I love reading your musings about food, and especially about OATMEAL:) I am new to your blog, what are you studying?
Barney Butter – YUMMMM!!!
Good luck, Kath! You’ll kill it 😀
That flower is beautiful, totally making me crave spring and summer more and more.
Loved your breakfast it looks so yummy!
Good luck on your test today!
Yum! What a delicious looking breakfast! My mouth is watering just looking at it. For all that food, what would you estimate the calories to be? I am trying to become more aware of calorie content, how would you suggest going about that? Meaning, is a food scale and measuring the only way to go? Thanks!
I love, love, love the blueberries, walnuts and almonds mix on yogurt.
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter) says
this breakfast looks A+ kath! did you toast the bread?
it looks sooooo delicious! It looks awesome! seriously! the bread looks so fresh and hearty, along with the melty BB and fresh oranges/blueberries, mushy bananas and tart yogurt-what deliciousness!
okay im done ranting!
you must have a good day after a bfast like that!
Love the morning breakfast!
yum! this could very well become my lunch 🙂 looks delish!!
But butter and banana sandwiches are amazing. If you have a foreman grill or paninni press I highly suggest you try warming up the sandwich in it, it’s so good.
I force-bloom paper whites yearly and they look and smell awesome.
I get a flat dish and layer it with marbles. add paper white bulbs on top and they bloom making a beautiful centerpiece.
You flowers look beautiful and your breakfast looks so good! I love PB and banana sandwiches!
Your sandwich looks so good! Nut butter plus banana is the best!
Weekly Bite says
You can’t go wrong combo of BB and Banana!! Its one of my favorites! I’m excited that berries are slowly coming back in seasonand tasting better!!
Good luck today! I have no doubt you’ll do well!

btw, i LOVE your blog too!!
Do you ever eat anything bad..chips, cake cookies?
your sandwich looks great! i am dying to try barney butter! i’m officially on the hunt for it.
The flowers look great, I love bulb kits!
Sarah (lovINmytummy) says
Hope you didn’t eat that candle…it looks eerily similar to your breakfast.
Ok so this may sound really creepy, but I think because I was reading the blog yesterday and there were pics of you and your hubby, you both must have been in my subconscious because you were both in my dream. You went out to dinner with me and my husband…very odd I know, because we don’t know each other, but just thought I’d share…happy hump day 🙂

oh kath I love that plate and bowl so pretty! Where did you get them?

yeah, pb and banana samwiches! the elvis special!
Sandwich looks fun! Good luck Kath.
Oh dear, I jusr re-read my comment and I wrote but butter…lol. But butter sanwiches are not good, NUT butter sandiwches, however, are delish. Avoid the but ones at all costs people.
Good luck on the test!
Tofu in a bread recipe? I’m intrigued:)
Hey Kath, I asked this question on a couple other blogs, but due to your knowledge from studying to be an RD, I wanted to get your thoughts on this.
I exercise first thing in the morning Mon-Fri. Typically I have a half of a banana w/pb and then eat breakfast later, but I’ve been wondering if on days my workouts are somewhat shorter, I can skip the pre-workout snack or if it’s bad for my metabolism. So, say maybe I wake up at 6:45, go on a 45 minute run, get ready for work and have breakfast by 8:45. So about two hours. On days I don’t wake up hungry and am out the door running right away, is this ok to do or is waiting two hours to eat breakfast harmful to my metabolism?
Diana (Soap & Chocolate) says
This post produced a growl from my tummy. Must be time for lunch! I did a no-cook breakfast myself this morning. Decided to do an experiment and make a breakfast ‘pie’ with a quinoa ‘crust’ and a pumpkin-protein powder ‘filling.’ It turned out so awesome! I will dream of it…until I heat up lunch.
Welcome! Check out the Kath and FAQ pages at the top.
I’d estimate about 500-550 for this breakfast. Might seem high, but that’s 1/3 of my day and will keep me running for 5 hours, so it’s cool. If you’re not familiar with portion sizes and calories you probably do want to spend some time measuring things so you know what the portion looks like in your own dishes. Food scales are the most accurate, but you don’t have to use one; they are just easier IMO because they don’t require cleaning like measuring cups do. Once you get an idea of portion sizes and calorie counts, then you can just eyeball the amount and do a calorie estimate instead of being more specific.
seelee live (for the love of peanut butter),
Yup, toasted the bread. I don’t have a panini press.
Crate + Barrel.
That’s exactly what I do. Not eating a snack before a workout won’t harm your metabolism – if you notice anything at all, you might have a little less energy on your run. But, unless an empty stomach is going to make you feel sick, there’s no reason that you need to have a snack before you workout if your workouts are less than 60-90 minutes, as you likely have enough stored glycogen to get you through those two hours. Just be sure to refuel afterwards with breakfast.
I’ve read SOOOO much about Barney Butter and we don’t get it here–I’m dying to try it! Your sandwich sounds yummy. As does the salad in the next post!
Hi Kath, I’m rereading my comment and I realized that I typed “lost much about food” I meant “KNOW MUCH” it was pretty early when I visited your blog. Sorry! didn’t mean to make it come out like an insult. 😳
No worries 🙂
The sandwich looks amazing!
That breakfast sandwich looks good!
