Nestled In

I discovered this morning that our new porch loveseat has a cute-as-a-button button hole that is the perfect resting place for a bowl!

IMG_6101Blog

No tipping there!

IMG_6096Blog

The nestled bowl was filled with cereal, again. I think my maternal instincts must be kicking in to love Morning O’s so much 🙂

IMG_6099Blog

I also filled the bowl with shredded wheat, banana, blueberries, chia seeds, a drizzle of honey, a few dried cherries and milk! Plus Sarah’s homemade dripped honey roasted peanut butter. Tastes a bunch like my own favorite honey crunch pb.

IMG_6098Blog

But what is it about cereal that makes you wanting bowl after bowl! Probably just because it tastes so darn good…

How about that, a nestling place for the bowl and instant placemat! Gotta love multi-tasking!

The bowl is adorable by the way, do you remember where you got it?

I love your porch furniture Kath! And I agree on the cereal being addictive. I swear, I could eat it forever without feeling full. When I was a kid, I was all about the Trix, Corn Pops, and Froot Loops (why on earth did my mum EVER let me eat those!?) My wiser and older tastebuds are also much healthier, so it’s Kashi and Nature’s Path for me now. Have a fantastic day!

I wondered this (because of the suspected Kate Middleton pregnancy!) and asked my doctor and he said there was no reason to avoid it based on the research. Said it was a good source of protein and women have been eating PB during pregnancy for centuries.

To my knowledge (having just done OB rotation in nursing school) there is no contraindication for peanut butter for a pregnant woman. Peanuts do have more inflammation causing proteins, but there hasn’t been any indication that it causes any sort of risk during gestation. Munch away! That bowl looks SO GOOD… I’m going to have to go get some cereal now while I study.

Babies shouldn’t be given peanut products until they’re older because of the likelihood of developing an allergy- again, inflammatory proteins… same with eggs, dairy milk, etc. A huge no for babies is honey- clostridium botulinum spores can hang out in honey and while safe for older kids/adults, it can cause paralysis of the diaphragm in a baby and knock out respiratory drive.

Pregnancy foods to avoid: Caffeine (linked to low birth weight and SIDS), lunch meats and hot dogs (nuke thoroughly if you’re going to eat- listeria risk; not so bad for mom, pretty bad for baby), alcohol (duh), raw/smoked fish (food poisoning risk), undercooked (rare) meats. Some docs recommend no drippy eggs, either- depends on the doc.
