Multi-Nuttz

RAARRR

IMG_0025 (640x427)

The sun was just rising, but Bora Bora insisted I take the photo shoot outside for a more familiar setting. He is used to the tropical rainforest, you see, and hates it inside our house (although lately it’s been as humid as a rainforest inside!!)

IMG_0021 (640x427)

Today’s oats were rockin’!

IMG_0035 (640x427)

Thanks to the latest from NUTTZO! I got a sample of their new peanut free jar. What it’s missing in peanuts, it MORE than makes up for in other interesting add-ins: CHIA SEEDS, hazelnuts cashews, brazilnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds and flax. I think it needs a new name because "amazing blend of crunch" is so much more appealing than "peanut free!"

But I’m telling you, the chia seeds make it. They are small, round and slightly gelled and their texture is just divine!! There’s still the crunch of flax, and the hazelnuts are really detectable and make the flavor of this jar my new favorite. It IS pricey – so treat yourself to a jar once a year and see if you can make it last

 this !

Nuttzo PB (2)

IMG_0031 (640x427)

The Mix

  • 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill 10 Grain Hot Cereal
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Half banana
  • Half tbsp chia seeds
  • Pinch salt, vanilla, cinnamon
  • Crumbled WHOLE WHEAT Banana Almond Choco Chip muffin from GH
  • NUTTZO PF!

IMG_0032 (640x427)

IMG_0033 (640x427)

IMG_0030 (640x427)

Clearly Bora has holes in his head! Might explain his quirky personality…

IMG_0024 (640x427)

IMG_0020 (640x427)

Clearly I need some Danskos!! But today I’m trying out my Steve Maddens that are kind of like Danskos clogs and are pretty comfy (they do lack arch support though). I’ll be seated this morning during my training, so hopefully my feet can rest for half a day.

Have a great day!!

I *heart* my Danskos- I personally think the shoe footbed is more comfortable for longer periods than the clog footbed, but I have both. I’ve been eyeballing the Naot Sea mary jane, check those out, too!

I wore Dansko’s for years! While they are comfortable shoes, I stumbled upon Merrell’s and find that they are 10X more comfortable on my feet and can wear them all day long, especially moving around in a kitchen. I feel like Merrell’s mold to my feet more than Dansko’s ever did.

I hear that Dansko was recently bought out by another brand and their quality has really plummeted. A friend of mine bought a new pair and within a month, they started falling apart. She said there was another brand similar in form and function to Dansko, but still retains the quality. I can’t remember what it was called, though! You should definitely go to a speciality shoe store and ask a pro. I don’t really wear Danskos, but I like Clarks and Merrills.

I love all these expensive new products, but seriously, it is hard to justify the expense when you can make similar stuff at home. I guess everyone deserves a treat every once in a while! I hope your feet do better today! It stinks working on your feet all day and not having the right shoes! Rocket dogs are really comfortable, but I don’t know if they have a good “work” shoe. Have a good day! Oh, and Epsom Salt for the feet…makes them feel so much better!

I sometimes walk 5 miles a day across campus several times and down town – in my Dankos, which save my bacon. They also make you stand up straighter and make you taller. And they’re mostly waterproof when the rain here in Oregon is pretty much floating the grass. What’s not to like?

You would probably find them so comfy, they’ll rock your world now, and later when you’re baking. It’s the best $120 I ever spent on my feet.

Just make sure you get Danskos that are about 1/2 size too big. Your heel is supposed to slip when you walk in them. I got ones that “fit” -and thought they were uncomfortable but wore them for a couple years out of stuborness. Then when I needed to replace them the salesperson told me about the heel slip thing and to buy 1/2 size larger and now they ARE the most comfy shoes ever! Like a massage for my high arches! Good luck!

Must try that Nutzzo…yum! I definitely say either Danskos or Birkenstocks over Sofft or Born or other “prettier” comfort shoes brands. I have pairs of all of these and NOTHING supports the way Birks and Danskos do…the footbeds aren’t just padded to be cushy, but offer real support to your foot and in consequence, your entire skeletal system. And as an added plus, you can beat the crap out of those puppies…they last FOREVER.

Just one word for you on the shoe front… *INSERTS*. They are a godsend. I’ve had issues with my feet ever since I earned a stress fracture from a back to back weekends of a marathon and dancing in heels at a wedding. If you can afford custom inserts, they are worth it, and last far longer than any insert you could buy at a store (practically a lifetime). Take any old shoe that has zip for arch support and you could also use a Dr. Scholls or whatever you like that has a nice cupped heel and good arch support. Your lower back will thank you later. On the shoe front a brand that I think is a 10-12 hr shoe is Earth. The shoes run ~100 per pair but since they are leather they last. I wore 2 pairs out over the course of 3 years, wearing them every day. Good luck!

I LOVE my Danskos, but I think they definitely bear trying-on, as the arch support doesn’t hit everyone the same way. I have 5 pair — my go-to faves are a mary jane built off the clog mold, they have a back and a strap. They are more comfortable than my beloved Saucony running shoes. I have two pair of heels (different footbed than clogs) which are also super, super comfy. And two pair of backless, clog based sandles which are also fab-u-lous. In all pairs they keep my foot more flat than bent downward at the ankle — so the look is different than what you get in normal ‘dress’ shoes. But it is also one of the many, many reasons they are more comfy. Be forewarned — the versions with closed backs are designed to NOT fit tightly around the heel, and your foot is supposed to lift out of tthe shoe a bit. This, also, is one of the reasons they are more comfy, and bettter for you.

p.s. on the shoes: I started wearing Danskos after back-to-back foot surgeries. They were the only shoe I could find that didn’t really bother me, but provided enough support for my tootsies. Now, I really appreciate that the wide toe box doesn’t squish my toes, and the fit doesn’t irritate my scars. That, and I’m more than willing to spend extra bucks to protect my feet. After six months of post-op, I now try to baby them as much as possible.

I hate trying to find work shoes! It’s like you can have cute shoes or comfortable shoes, but not both. I’m also short, so trying to find something cute, comfortable, AND with a little height is near impossible. Maybe some shoe companies should send you a few pairs to try out so you an review them for us 😉

Whoa! You are getting tons of shoe advice so I’ll just let that topic be. Plus, I don’t have anything more to add 🙂
That bowl of oats looks scrumptous this morning! Hope you are having a great day and your training was interesting this morning.

Thoughts on the New York times food blog article (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/07/dining/07camera.html?ref=dining)? Too bad they didn’t highlight your blog. What do you think about the psychologist’s obsessive part, could you stop your blog on a dime?

Well I could stop blogging on a dime for myself but it would be the thousands of readers that would keep me from doing it!! I don’t think it’s obsession over the continuum as it is about the people who read and would be disappointed if I woke up one day and didn’t feel like posting.

Danskos are a must!! I “dealt” with feet pain for years before I finally invested in good shoes. Now that I have, I can’t figure out what took me so long! Best. investment. ever!!! It’s like walking on clouds all day!

I’m a HUGE fan of chia seeds, but I grind mine first (coffee grinder works well). Sure it loses the crunch, but then they don’t get stuck in my teeth. 🙂

Kath, you’re a fan of flaxseed and I notice that you eat it without grinding it first. This is contrary to what I’ve read – that flax should be ground else your body won’t absorb it. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

What do you mean I don’t grind them – I DO!
