Morning Crunch

Getting up was hard this morning because somebody wanted to sleep with the ceiling fan and I woke up too frigid to take my arms out of the covers! So I laid there for 25 minutes

 this !
Then I finally got up because I visualized myself working out later and knew as much as I wanted to stay in bed, going to the gym in the afternoon would hang over me all day. So I went! 30 minutes on the Stepmill (at an easier pace than usual – 95 steps per min on the new machines), 10 mins on the bike and some lifting: bipeps, shoulders, push-ups, a few squats until I got bored.

Last night I mixed up some overnight oats:

The mix:IMG_5220 (800x600)

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup Stonyfield low-fat plain yogurt
  • 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1/3 cup strawberries
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries

And this morning I added:

  • 1/2 a cup Uncle Sam’s (loved it!!!)
  • The last of the Aztec Crunchy Corn
  • 1 tbsp blueberry preserves

IMG_5224 (800x600)

‘Twas crunchy and filling.

English Breakfast –

I’m very glad the sun is out today, but read my latest Gather post for some Gray Sky Blues.

Last day of early morning class EVER!! (Cause in the fall I have all afternoon/evening classes – which I am not happy about!)

Bye!

Oh no, your fall schedule isn’t going to work to well with Matt’s schedule, is it? Soak up lots of time with him this summer!

I’m still waiting for my gym buddy to get out of bed! 😉

Your overnight oats look good – have you posted before about how to make them? (sorry if I missed it!) Do you cook them the night before & eat them cold? Or is there no cooking involved?

That is so funny – I had overnight refrigerator oats for the first time this morning! I got the idea from Pam Anderson’s book, The Perfect Recipe for eating great and losing weight. I’m not a huge oatmeal fan, but leaving them in the fridge overnight gave it a nice consistency – not “gluey” which is what I always hated about oats!

I am loving your blog – love reading (and more importantly, seeing) what you’re eating….I try to eat mostly healthy foods and your blog has given me some new ideas (garbanzo/avocado mash = delicious!). I tried ‘pea shoots’ from Trader Joe’s this weekend, and those were great (not that I saw them here, just felt like mentioning!).

I had a question – wheatberries – I bought some after reading about them here (I also have been making some great oatmeal lately thanks to you!) – what do I do with wheatberries? Are they for either savory or sweet dishes? Do you just cook them like rice?? Thanks!!

I think you need to do a one time, big, step by step tutorial after exam week on how to make hot oats and overnight oats! I’m getting into oats, but I always use instant and yours (though I know there is a big difference between instant and oats) look so much better! 🙂 If someone told me how to do it (esp. with pictures) I think I’d have the patience to do it in the morning.

HOLLAAA to the last day of morning classes! That sounds fab!

I’m definitely with you on wanting to get workouts out of the way before the rest of the day. I don’t like it looming over everything else that has to be done!

My BF is always hot and I’m always cold. So when we sleep, he has a fan on his side of the bed, blowing directly on him, and I have an extra blanket on my side only. He sleeps in boxers and I’m in full PJs and sometimes a sweatshirt too. But that way we’re both happy! (Not very romantic though…but oh well!)

Sorry about the not-so-nice schedule next year. I suppose that’s going to be hard with Matt’s baker hours. At least it will switch things up for you, and you and Matt will just have to plan some extra time together!

    Oatmeal Folks,
Check out the Tribute To Oatmeal page for all things oatmeal. There’s a video there with ALL the info on how to make whipped banana oatmeal. There’s also a link to the overnight oats page, which I just updated with a little more info. It’s a totally raw breakfast – just combine and stir the night before.
