Mint Smoothie Recipe

This mint smoothie recipe is cool and refreshing yet filling and nutrient-dense with protein, Greek yogurt, fresh spinach, and creamy banana.

Why I Love Smoothies

Smoothies stand out for their ability to pack a nutritional punch. They are a harmonious blend of wholesome ingredients, resulting in a drink that is both healthy and delicious. You can effortlessly integrate a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants into your diet, all while enjoying a refreshing and satisfying drink with a straw – the easiest way to eat breakfast!

Unlike shakes, which may include ice cream or lack in protein, smoothies often rely on natural sweetness from fruits, making them a healthier option. I almost always put some frozen bananas in mine to bring that perfect creamy texture. If you’re not a banana fan, avocado can give the same effect. If you’re feeling a shake vibe, add some chocolate chips and coconut whip to the top!

Mint Smoothie Recipe

I think the best thing about smoothies is that you can blend in foods you might not normally want to chew for an easy-to-consume format. My favorite way to enjoy mint is in a mint julep! But that won’t work for breakfast (usually, haha) so rather than chew on mint leaves, they get blended up into this green smoothie packed with protein and healthy ingredients.

I came up with this recipe idea inspired by the Mint Cacao Smoothie from Daily Harvest. It’s one of my favorites, and I absolutely love the minty flavor. It pairs perfectly with baby spinach, so bring on the green on green! This Mint Smoothie recipe is not only easy to make but something off the well-beaten path of the typical berry smoothie.

Fresh mint leaves bring a unique twist to the classic green smoothie. The fresh flavor of mint adds a delightful cooling effect. If you don’t have fresh mint in your garden or the grocery store, you can also use a little more peppermint extract to get a similar flavor. Similarly, if you can’t find mint extract, just use a few more mint leaves.

Mint Smoothie Recipe

Blended with the mint and baby spinach is vanilla Greek yogurt (you can also use plain) and some vanilla protein powder. I find all the vanilla flavor goes really well with the mint, but you can also try this with chocolate protein powder or leave it out altogether.

Make it dairy free by using almond milk and coconut milk yogurt.

How to Make This Mint Smoothie

Mint Smoothie ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I like Tera’s Whey)
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract
  • Optional: mini chocolate chips and coconut whip for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Add ingredients to the blender

1. In a blender, combine milk and frozen banana, add 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh mint leaves, spinach, yogurt, vanilla protein powder and mint extract.

Add ingredients to the blender
Step 2: Blend away

2. Blend all the ingredients until smooth and creamy. You might need to use the blender’s plunger to ensure an even blend or add a bit more milk if you need to.

Step 3: Pour into glass

3. Pour the mint smoothie into a glass and enjoy. I love a mug with a handle so your hand doesn’t get cold!

4. Garnish with additional fresh mint leaves, chocolate chips, or coconut whip for a decorative touch. Enjoy!

Adjust to Your Liking

Feel free to adjust the thickness by adding more milk if desired. Customizing sweetness is easy—simply tweak the amount of banana or choose a sweetened protein powder.

How To Meal Prep Smoothies With Mint

Choosing Mint

  • Wash and chop fresh mint leaves ahead of time
  • Portion out smoothie ingredients into freezer-safe bags or containers

Pre-Made Mint Smoothie Packs

  • Combine mint, fruits, greens (like spinach), and yogurt or avocado in individual freezer bags.
  • Label with the date and smoothie type so you’ll know what’s inside on a busy morning!
  • Add liquids (milk, juice, or coconut water) only when blending for best consistency.

Making Mint Ice Cubes for Smoothies

One easy way to add mint to any smoothie is to make mint ice! Blend fresh mint with a little water or coconut water. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Drop a few cubes into any smoothie for a burst of minty freshness.

Make Smoothie Popsicles With Extra

Another way to enjoy on the go is the freeze the prepared smoothie into a popsicle mold! Kids especially might love this refreshing and healthy snack.
