Minimalist Pots For House Plants

I hope the sun is out where ever you are! Because dem plants need it.

Thomas LOVES house plants. When I met him, he had this whole corner of his house packed with them. To be honest, house plants have always made me feel cluttered. While I love a big fiddle leaf fig filling out an empty corner, smaller plants in colorful pots just catch my eye in a not-so-good way. I get that they are great for air quality and people find them soothing – but I just couldn’t get over the cluttered look. UNTIL we agreed to get some minimalist, matching pots. All white. All modern. And all cool! The geometric Bennie is my favorite. Now I love the window plants in the basement! (We also considered these rounded ones, these marble ones, and this standing one. Anything but terra cotta!)

this !

Floor Pots

We got this double decker pot in the background as a Christmas gift last year. I love the spike plant Thomas chose, as it has a modern feel. And the bigger floor pot was a purchase from a local store.

This pot was a wedding gift from my sister. The white and gray pattern and wooden base. It matches our decor perfectly.

Plant Food

I ordered some vanilla plant-based protein powder made with pea, rice, and cranberry (!?) protein from my friend Brett’s Arbonne business, and it’s really good! I always prefer vanilla to chocolate, and anything to make my smoothies more like vanilla cake and marshmallows. Those are some Cinnamon Puffins on top! The smoothie base is peanut butter + banana + milk + oats + vanilla protein.

Outside Plants

Some of our warmer weather days recently meant some stroller walks with friends. Birch and Fern are growing like weeds!

I CAN’T WAIT FOR SPRING, says everyone this time of year. Especially with a little baby who I don’t want to take to indoor germy places. Getting fresh air is so nice for the both of us.

We’ll be planting soon!

These are so cute! If I weren’t so much of a black thumb, haha, I’d definitely get these pots. 🙂

I feel the same way you do – plants are great but I hate the clutter of a busy pattern or super colorful pot! My boyfriend and I have finally come to an agreement on a select few plants and it actually is growing on me (pun intended, HA!). I need to look into some of those white minimalist pots – so cute!

These are great looking pots, so simple and striking. What do you do about drainage since they don’t have drainage holes? Do you put stones or something in the bottom to drain water? My husband always has the idea he can drill drainage holes in the bottom but then you still have to have some unattractive saucer that takes away from the whole look.

So I’m not the one who waters them ( 🙂 ) but I think he just lightly waters them. Maybe they are plants that don’t need a ton of water or drainage? I agree about the saucers – hate the look! I know our orchid always drains and makes a mess so he puts that in the bathtub.

Love the plants. I, too, thought hat you were feeding the plants protein! Plant protein powder can be helpful if you don’t always want a whey based one. About that particular protein powder though. I took a look at the ingredients sheet and see that one serving weighs 40 grams provides only 20 grams of protein. I look for powders that have a maximum of 11 grams difference between serving weight and protein amount. That’s a lot of extra stuff in that mix that is not protein— and the second ingredient is sugar!?! How can a protein supplement that is 50%filler and has sugar as the second ingredient be healthy?

It is not marketed as a 100% pure protein powder – there are a host of other ingredients like Alfalfa leaf powder and dietary fiber as well. It’s not like they are using cardboard as filler. If you go to the website and look at the “Meet the Product” sheet you’ll find more. I’m not worried about a little sugar either, especially in the context of all those other ingredients/benefits. If you’d have more questions you can reach out to Brett through me.

Great compromise! I love plants, but I keep killing them. I seriously shouldn’t be allowed to take them home! They really need to get together and start like a PETA for plants. A voice for the voiceless many that have perished due to irresponsible plant ownership LOL!!

Hi Kath! Thanks for the great ideas with house plants! I have a question that is slightly unrelated. I love the color on your walls in those pictures! I’m trying to find the right color to paint my living room and dining room. Do you remember what the paint color is/where you bought it?

    Thank you!

Our main door is Agreeable Gray and the basement is Collanade Gray. Both Sherwin Williams.

The plant food which you shared can be used for all plants?
