Microwave Dinner

We had a great day at the bakery today – loads and loads of bread + sweets went from flour to breakfast, lunch and dinner tables all around town!

IMG_0210Blog

I walked home before dark (and before it started raining!) and had a simple leftovers dinner – strategically planned! Matt decided to make another batch of oatmeal mix t the last minute, so we ate separately.

I munched over the movie Dear John. I read the book when it came out, but I couldn’t remember a thing about the plot. I love Nicholas Sparks movies because they’re always set in the most gorgeous Southern coastal towns. They might not be the most mind bending plots (although I really liked this one!) but they are fun to watch.

Leftover crockpot chili with yogurt and cheese and a side of pita chips for crunch!

“Bless this highly nutritious microwavable macaroni and cheese chili dinner and the people who sold it on sale. Amen.” –Home Alone 🙂

Boss has me on the clock at 6am tomorrow, so I best be gettin’ ta bed!

Loooove Home Alone quotes! Lock the doors before 9:00 so you can actually eat rather than battle burglars.

I would assume a lot of people don’t have the time or energy during the week to bake everything they might need for the holiday- plus it’s better to get them later so they’re fresher 😉

Here in NY, the holidays are the busiest times for bakeries, and my favorite time to visit them, too. Fresh bakery bread + pastries makes the holidays extra special. I cannot imagine making Italian pastries from scratch; they’re something only our local bakeries have mastered–thankfully. 🙂

    Hi Kath:

Do you or Matt have any suggestions for books or websites on breadbaking at home?

I think Matt’s favorite is Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day. He also loves Alton Brown’s “Just Here For The Food” books – they’re very good at teaching techniques.

I saw title. Perplexed. Cuz I saw the loaf of yummy looking bread. Perplexed. Oh, the crockpot chili (that looks mighty delicious) and the Pita chips… nice side. Now, you just need some sautéed greens. Ya, that would be another good Friday Thursday night side (sorry, I’m on Friday as my holiday started today). 😉
