McSteamy

Hello from Mom + Dad!

IMG_4246Blog

They’re here for a mini vacation and are spending 3 nights at our place. Matt and I finished up business at the bakery, including a duo of snacks:

Siggi’s + Cville Cluster (I might have added a corner of Blondie too!)

IMG_4234Blog

And a few hours later…an end piece of bread to tide me to dinner

IMG_4242Blog

While we worked, mom and dad were downtown listening to music in the heat. We met them at 7 and headed to Escafe for dinner

And drinks!

IMG_4247Blog

I was in a thirsty mood for water, so mom and I split a beer. Starr Hill Amber!

IMG_4248Blog

My snacks filled me up so I had a salad for dinner..

IMG_4252Blog

But it wasn’t any ole salad – I ordered a side of calamari to go on top! I love salads topped with fried food.

IMG_4250Blog

Half of them went on top and half went to share with the table

IMG_4254Blog

It’s just wrong to not have ice cream on a 100 degree day!! We stopped into Splendora’s for gelato. Matt and I shared the Lavender + Lemon and COCONUT! It was incredible!!!!!!!

IMG_4260Blog

We’re all gathered in the living room yapping away!

Night!

I’ve only had Calamari once but so good! Agreed – salads topped with crunchy things, fried or not, is good 🙂

Nice to have your family visiting! Is this their first time at the Bakery?

Hi Kath: Totally off topic for this post but I wanted to make sure you and Matt knew about a show on BBC America. It’s called, “James May Drinks.” The show is about James (from Top Gear) as he travels around England drinking beer. My husband was telling me about it and I thought of you two. Cheers!

James May also had two previous shows documenting his “education” about wines – he traveled throughout France in the first one, and California in the second. They were both hilarious *and* educational! (sidenote: how do I get a job like that? Paid to travel around Sonoma and Napa, tasting wonderful wines and touring fantastic vineyards – sign me up!!) BBC America rules as far as I’m concerned. 🙂

That’s brilliant! Fried calamari atop salad… I never would have thought about that! That sounds so good. I love squid (boiled) with EVOO, vinegar, fresh parsley, salt + pepper. That I have had on a salad, it’s delish. Try it sometime! 🙂
